Lighthouse Posted 15 September, 2012 Share Posted 15 September, 2012 The phrase, "season starts against Villa," seems to be doing the rounds, so let's get the season off to a good start and win. Last time we played this fixture the winner was scored by... Steven Davis. Hooiveld might be injured. Cork played 90 minutes for the U21s against the Barcodes so could be back in contention. I'd go with a similar team: Davis Clyne - Fonte - Yoshi - Fox Davis - Morgan - JWP Ramirez - Lambert - Lallana
Golden Balls Posted 15 September, 2012 Share Posted 15 September, 2012 I'd be tempted to put either Richardson or Cork at RB and play Clyne at LB. I really don't rate Fox

Saintandy666 Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 Start of death over. New players in. Always though this would be where our season started once we had assembled our full team. Kingsland Codger Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 On the bright side, it might take a defensive horror-show to wake things up. The tapes will be watched and re-watched closely and at the next training session the errors will be concentrated on. We therefore should be tighter at the back, sharper in midfield and more supportive of the attack. Looking back (painfully) at past thumpings, we have often won the following league encounter. Yesterday's disaster needs to be seen as an opportunity to improve.
rshephard3 Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 Ramirez plays and has the team built around him. Lambert plays 90 minutes unless injured or overly tired. Fox dropped, was **** enough defensively in the Championship and is getting absolutely ruined in the prem. How we don't have a left back with any defensive ability over the age of 17 in the prem is remarkable and has already been noted by the whole league. 6 pointer time now. Ian the Red Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 We must pickup at least a point. Lambert must play a full 90. Defence needs sorting, would go with: KD unless we sign someone Richardson Jos Yoshida Clyne MS Ramirez AL JWP Mayuka Ricky Mayuka should be used on the wing with his pace and every defence is terrified of real pace. Got to get the ball RL and support him.
Rebel Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 Davis Richardson. Fonte. Yoshida. Clyne Cork. Chaplow. Morgan Lallana. Ramirez Rodriguez Using Cork and Morgan as the 2 defensive midfielders and Chaplow as the attacking midfielder. We need someone with a bit more pace and running upfront - that's what I'd start Rodriguez

Dalek2003 Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 I am not sure of the detail, but we should start with a positive attacking line up. Play without fear. Big game for KD, if he fails this time then change the GK.

Avenue Saint Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 4-4-1-1 like second half yesterday -----------------------A Keeper--------------- Clyne-----------Jose---------Yoshida-----Shaw Puncheon---------JWP------Morgan-------Lallana ------------------------Ramirez-------------------- ------------------------Lambert------------------- If we change formation at home, it will only make it that much longer to get fully accustomed to our new formation. Otherwise it would be logical, to just go 4-4-2 and I know we'll pick up the points (lambert will be back to best) but you can't do that away in this league so might be 1 step forward fir sake of 2 steps back. If they are serious long term about this 4-3-3/4-3-2-1 formation, the sooner we get totally comfortable with it, the better.

egreog Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 3 points is essential from this or I fear a long season of angst and discontent. Presumably the players are totally aware so should play out of their collective skins. If not we really do have major problems without any obvious solution. trousers Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 3 points is essential from this I'm gonna stick my neck out and say that anything other than no points is essential. Much like our -10 season in League One, the sooner we get through that psychological zero barrier the better. So, yes of course, 3 points would be better than 1 but a point would have the same effect of removing the start of season monkey off our backs... Wade Garrett Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 Gazza Clyne, Fonte, Yoshida, Fox Cork, Morgan Mayuka, Ramirez, Lallana Lambert With the imbalance in the squad, we don't have much choice than go attacking. I'd have Morgan and Cork sitting in front of the back 4 to give them some protection.

itchen_dan Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 4-4-1-1 like second half yesterday -----------------------A Keeper--------------- Clyne-----------Jose---------Yoshida-----Shaw Puncheon---------JWP------Morgan-------Lallana ------------------------Ramirez-------------------- ------------------------Lambert------------------- Was gonna suggest exactly the same although with a slight tweak. Bit of a 5 man diamond (as some of you may know, I prefer the diamond and is the formation I want us to play) Gazzaniga Clyne Fonte Hooiveld Fox Schneiderlin Puncheon JWP/Davis Lallana Ramirez Lambert - Davis has had his chance, and blown it. Gazza to come in. - Still keeps the DM that Adkins seems to want to protect the back four. - Still allows the full backs to bomb on like Adkins wants. - Still allows us to potentially outnumber the CM with 3/4 players always there. - Still allows Lallana freedom to attack and join in with attacks. Ramirez can play his preferred and best "number 10" role with little defensive responsibility and Lambert gets someone for support and someone who can play in and around him. -As close to the 4-4-2 that many want but keeps with the 4-5-1/4-3-3 that Adkins wants. pingwing Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 I think we have got to make room for puncheon in our team. He's been one of our best players. He really hasn't, United he was world class, every other game he has had the ball, run about about, tripped over it and wasted possession and goal scoring opportunities. Arsenal he gave a real league 1 performance with his single highlight being the cross in for our goal, even then it wasn't the best we have seen. A frustrating player who we should loose patience with very quickly because his ability to follow the game plan keeps dropping off a cliff and costing us badly. Dr. Kucho Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 ------------ Davis ------------ Clyne ---- Fonte --- Yoshida ---- Shaw ------- Cork ----- Schneiderlin Puncheon ---- Ramirez ------ Lallana ------------ Lambert ---------- Subs: Gazza, Richardson, Lee, S Davis, Mayuka, Hooiveld, Rodriguez. Fox's crosses and attacking play are decent but his defending has been shocking, he cuts inside way to early leaving the left open. Fonte and Yoshida seemed to work well together and Jos has been poor at times this season. Left JWP out as he has played some tough games and is still young. Ramirez has to play, he looked ace yesterday.
Lighthouse Posted 16 September, 2012 Author Share Posted 16 September, 2012 How many of the people picking Shaw have seen him play more than a couple of sub appearances against sh*t teams in the cup? I have doubts over Fox too but this 'anyone is better' mentality is flawed. Chuck him in too early and we will just end up with another Bernard, Molyneux or Van Damme. saintbob40 Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 Cork in for oneof the ginger ninjas. We need his calm authority on the ball and his industriousness off the ball. Turkish Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 Tickets aren't exactly flying out; still comfortably over 2,000 seats available. Villa have taken their full allocation. I'd didn't think this could be true as the weather forecast is good, it isn't the school holidays or a bank holiday weekend. There are no road works on the M3 or A34 and no train strike and its our only league home game in 4 weeks so no issue with anyone who just wants to see a game of premier league football having to pick one game out of two, therefore i assumed we'd sell out already and be turning thousands away. Then I remembered its the weekend before pay day and the 22nd of September is traditionally one of the most popular dates in the calander for surprise birthday parties for aunties so that explains why there are still a lot of tickets left.
