Arsenal 6 - 1 Saints - Post Match Reaction

Kelvin is a liability, that Podolski free kick looked a screamer at the time, but it wasn't even in the corner, beaten at his near post yet again.

He needs to be replaced.

I'll watch it later on tv but the guy I was with reckoned Kelvin should ave saved it. I thought it was just a good free kick.

Anyway Villa are in for a kicking.

Btw did anyone think we were too soft today? No yellow cards, hardly a foul? Should we be getting stuck in more?

Strange tactics I thought, Lambert totally isolated and easily controlled by Mertasaker. Lallana and Puncheon not tracking back and giving away too much possession. Therefore as they stayed wide we were very light in the middle and Arsenal swamped us and moved the ball wide quickly. Surely we should have packed the middle a bit more and closed them down?

Although Ramirez looked great and the Yoshida/Fonte partnership promising.

Just back from the game, had a free ticket as my cousin ref'd the game. Had a great day out at the curtsey of Arsenal FC. Saw Dave Merrington in the press canteen eating lunch and saw the Saints changing room were amongst the highs of the day.

I was seated amongst the Gooners and can say they are the lamest supporters. Credit it to the traveling Saints fans who sang and could be heard around the ground. Hopfully MOD will show the one Saints supporter giving it some amongst a sea of Gooners when we scored, that was me!

First half we had no teeth to our attack and Rickie was isolated. We were ineffective attacking and the defence was run ragged. It was game over at half time. In the second half we came out fighting, Ramirez stood out and linked up well. Puncheon ran his socks off and gave 100%. Ward-Prowse was poor today, gave alot away, Schnidelderlin was alos ineffective. Ironically, even having to pull the ball out of his net 6 times Kelvin was my MOM.

In some ways it was a credit to the side that we tried to play the ball out at every opportunity but i wonder if it was wise to play Arsenal at there own game as they clearly taught us a lesson today. Is this a formidable Arsenal team or did we make them look that good?

The question we will ask ourself over the coming weeks is why we didn't strengthen the defence.

And anyway, it was my fault completely. Last time I went to watch Saints away at Arsenal we lost 6-1, same today. I promise never to go near the place ever again.

this.ive told my son this,so now ive done the emirates, thank f*** i dont have to go there again

thought from the off we were dreadful.why play rickie up front with noone in support.

why sit back and not go at them like we did city and utd?

adam and morgan were well out of the game and offered nothing.

the whole game the bloke next to me slagged fox, today was the first time id have to agree.

its nice to play our passing football but unless theres pace and movement we are not going to do anything

weve played three of the top four and really feel we need something from the villa game else i can see mr.cortese thinking of a change in management

as for arsenal fans, give me the saints anyday,to only sing when you score, what sh***.at least we get ups and downs with saints and can enjoy the ride.id rather what saints give me than thinking its great to be in the champions league for 15 years and win f*** all.

arsenal fan on the train home, what was the score somebody asked him,his reply,6-1

the women asked who they played,

his reply, dont know ,they were so sh**.

probably the only arsenal game hed ever been to.

keep the faith,coys

No need to panic or get disheartened.

* we have played three very good teams. Defeat was always on the cards.

* The defeat against Wigan was the worst of the 4 defeats, but it happens.

* we have a five year plan and we have not spent money on short term signings, if we get relegated we will have it covered as part of our 'yoyo' strategy

* it was obvious to me that although we would give consolidation in the premier league a good try our real aim was to build for the future with young talent, if necessary take relegation and copme up again stronger.

* we ARE following a yoyo strategy and i said it months ago.

What was the reaction like when Walcott & AOC clapped the Saints fans at the end, any boos for AOC ?

When AOC got his name read out at the start about half the crowd wheyd and about half booed like children.

When they came over everyone who was still there, 2/3rds maybe, stood and applauded them. No boos at the end.

We have conceded 14 goals in 4 matches - we have to stop this or we will be in deep trouble. We need a proper PL defence and keeper.

Well that isn't going to happen the window is closed and decent PL defenders avaliable for loan are likely to be as rare as hens teeth. The players we have now are the players we're going to have to make do with until Jan(maybe even beyond that) we will just have to hope that the coaching staff can coach abit more into those players and those players start learning the lessons they're being given every week...... fast.

good lord......hwo on earth can anyone have a pop at Kelvin for not saving the free kick? No keeper would have saved it......what is it with you plastics that are forever looking for a scapegoat?

Have you watched it back yet? It was a good foot and a half inside the post. He was stood too far to the left, no question.

Davis mom are you mad? He could have saved first hour goals for me. Ward prowess was with Ramirez out best player I thought. Lallana shocking and needs to stop bring arrogant. Ramirez showed a him when to play it rather than dilly dally around. Tbf lambert had a very poor game too. Jay rod looks good upfront. On a plus point Ramirez playing thru balls to mayuka could be good.

First goal Davis thumbed, second middle of goal, third Davis should have covered near post as at man city. 4th goal Davis moved too far over and didn't cover near post. He also flapped at routine cross.

An odd one as I don’t think Arsenal were anything special – we played into their hands by trying to do a City and defend deep. The difference between Arsenal and City is that City largely went through the middle while Arsenal have pace to burn –Gervinho was my MOTM by a country mile. Arsenal will get down the sides and behind you if you drop off and let them play little through balls between and around the full backs.

IMO the goals could have been avoided – for the first, two of our CMs were criminally outbossed and outfought by one of their players who then nutmugged KD. IMO the second was never a free-kick. The third involved some miscommunication between the Yoshida and the other defenders – was he trying to play offside? The fourth was again unlucky, taking a wicked deflection off Clyne.

KD didn’t and increasingly doesnt inspire confidence – arguably he could have done better for the first goal (through the legs) and third goal (near post without the Tevez poker eyes) and the freekick didn’t fly into the top corner, even if it was hit with a lot of pace. KD also flapped at a cross (from which they could have scored a header), though he did pull off an excellent save in the 2nd half.

The second half was brighter, though Arsenal could have just taken their foot off the pedal. Lambert was less isolated helped by Ramirez's position. He should have done better from a Ramirez mis-hit shot – and indeed we worked some decent openings but never with any pace or ruthlessness.

Ramirez looked good – was happy to take responsibility, look up and drive forward with the ball –something which none of our three CMs did. Yoshida also showed some promise after a shaky start and bailed Fox out a few times – possesses decent pace. Jrod also threw himself about– and looked more mobile than Lambert down the middle, demonstrating good strength to hold off their CBs.

By contrast, Lallana was very poor as was Davis. Morgan took too much time on while Clyne made some good tackles, though they were always felt like recoveries for prior errors. Punch got better as the game went on, though he flattered to deceive - alot of sideway runs. Arsenal underlined the value of pace and I’d love to see Mayuka get a nod on the right. He remains our one and only genuinely quick player.

Not impressed by Arsenal crowd – I live in and around them, so dont know what I was expecting. For the first time, made me nostalgic for the championship, though I don't have a purist’s desire to go back down.

Be back next week and season can get under way, still better than watching a Branfoot team.

We were hammered by a very good side mainly because we were second best in midfield thereby exposing a weak defence.

I live amongst them too and it won't be easy.

Our support was sh*t today. Stood in silence for most of the game. Arsenal fans were even worse though. I'd hate to support them, soulless ground and boring fans. Their support next to us on the right was embarrassing. Indian men in their replica shirts giving it the biggun. Forgive me but the Premier League isn't all it's cracked up to be. Today was only salvaged by a good p*ss up.

My take is this.

Positives Ramirez looks good.

We will struggle this season.

My worry is lack of a physically strong ball playing cm who breaks people. Look at tiote, Fellaini, that sort of mould.

Instead we play two weak tacklers who can pass behind three attacking mids and a big striker and then find ourselves standing off and playing too deep without a real ankle biter to put the fear of God in people.

Davis has been found out sadly. And I have been worried it would happen.

The best way to get the best out of out defence would be to.get fox and clyne to be defenders and really restrict their forward play as they are too keen to bomb forward and let tactically inferior players cover.

Full backs playing like they are cafu and Roberto Carlos will get us relegated.

Schneiderlin is not good enough at this level not a quick enough brain, typical ball dweller.

Good points are Ramirez looks very useful, however Lallana is no longer our best midfielder, I just hope he doesn't get fazed. Today he looked disinterested if his wife was due then he should have been on bench. Bad management.

We were crying out for pace running in behind once Ramirez came on. Mayuka must be being saved for the less profile games and I have a feeling Ramirez and him will link well.

We need to play 442 diamond with a proper defensive FB strategy play Lambert deep lying forward and mayuka on last man. Rodriguez got to get a chance though. Couldn't see him and Lambert as a two. Too similar... So maybe him and tills with Lambert off bench like city game

Anyone tell me what Cortese, Adkins and his backup team of transfer elves were doing when Wayne Bridge was being touted around for a loan. A player who would have benefited us as well as a return to his spiritual abode.

He really wouldn't have.

It's time to move on from the past, and he is in the past and is in the Championship for a reason.

Of the 4 games in the prem so far he has been generally very good, including scoring against United 2 weeks ago. Today wasn't his best day party because he was in charge of dealing with Carloza, AOC and Ghervino all at the same time, seems a bit harsh to write him off for that as what else was he supposed to do first half?

Second half they took their foot off the game and Morg got into the game, helped by dropping to 4-2-3-1 with JWP playing next to him in front of the back 4 and not having Steven Davis foul everyone around him (he really didn't look his best after 2 NI games over the weekend).

They were trying to sign Buttner, who had a really poor debut at United today by scoring their 3rd.......

Am back from the game after seeing Saints get Spanked 6-1 in the end by Araenal and tbh as soon as the first goal went in

I was sensing a Spanking which it was and tbh come Full Time Arsenal Deserved the Win tbh as We weren't really in it tbh!!!

On the Plus side was my first time inside the Emirates which was Nice and was Good seeing Ramirez and Yoshida play as well

which was Good!!!

Also I really Hope that Adkins stays on for as long as possible as If/When Cortese decides to get rid of him whenever that will

be, I am not sure on who will take over from him tbh as the Villa game on Saturday is a Must Win game so We can Finally get

off and running as Adkins said in his interview earlier!!!

COYR!!! :D

It was always going to be like that, a bolt out of the blue for some. I'm honestly surprised at our first half display though. Arsenal didn't really need to play that well, we handed it to them on a plate along with knives and forks. Not sure what we've been working on in training over the last 2 weeks if that's a result of our defensive work (as we spent a few days just on defensive shape)

Looked to me like the work on defensive shape meant we defended very narrow, almost within the width of the 6 yard box - we stood off them in midfield, they played in between our lines, rolled it out wide (either side but mostly their left) and we gave them the time and space to do what they liked out wide, with our defence then turned and facing their own goal. Too narrow defensively, always taking too long to get out there. More worrying was our complete lack of composure on the ball at times - we've started slipping into the hoof it mentality - in fact rewatching it, the quick long out at Lambert (who didn't win anything today except causing Szczesny to drop it to Fox) was our main attacking threat.

No bones about it, Arsenal played very well, but we gave them enough time to do what they liked in midfield and just didn't get close enough much of the time. Yoshida for the third by Gervinho was the worst defensive mistake, but to be fair to the guy he's had 2 days and got thrown in at the deep end.

It didn't really feel like a thrashing to me, dunno if that was the drink or just that everything they did came to a goal.

All this talk about Adkins going is just ridiculous though. Now if we lose the next three and don't look like we're improving...
