modern matron Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Lets just calm down for a minute. We didn't get spanked by MC or MU and the goals we let in against Wigan were as much individual errors as anything. The teams needs to get used to each other and dare I say it 'gel'. We're having a real baptism of fire with the fixture list if we only get one spanking in this lot it wont be so bad. Give it time. Let's put today down as an utterly abysmal day at the office and judge Saints against teams like Villa and stoke before we write ourselves off as relegation certainties. Obviously things might well improve but that half was alarming, Merrington described it as "embarrassing"! 3 and a half games played 11 conceded spells relegation......
MOSaint Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Harsh to blame NA for what we have seen so far, some of the performances so far from the better players has been well below what you'd expect of them. Feel bad for Yoshida, probably get eviscerated for the defending on that third, but if you chuck a player in at the deep end after one training session you are going to get communication issues like the one that caused the error. Was Hooiveld injured?
Saint_clark Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 And to think people went on and on and on about posters being negative for worrying about the defence. Its a clear error that we ignored it. It clearly wasn't ignored.
Mr X Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 17 million spent up front. Bizarre. Top scorers in the Championship. Where did we NOT need to spend money... How have we spent 17 million up front? Ramerez isn't a striker
alpine_saint Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 The sad thing is we have scored more goals than arsenal in this game and we are losing 4-1
alpine_saint Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 It clearly wasn't ignored. If you say so, pal.

suewhistle Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 I see Alpine is here. Wallowing in misery and predictable moans about how we should have strengthened our defence I'd imagine. Don't think I'll be back as I'm not sure I can remain polite. Interesting to see what Adkins does for 2nd half, but I won't be here to discuss it. We've been crap but the Arse movement has been good and it's our midfield for a change that hasn't protected the defence much, even it has needed strengthening. Anyway, might see you later.

beatlesaint Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Surely every manager in the league will just say 'attack down their left hand side and you'll score'. Truly awful. Just cant see how we'll stay up in our current state. of course they will.......and its pretty much what Championship managers were saying last year too I suspect. Still Fox has scored so he will keep his place next week.....oh hang on, there is a 17 year old as an alternative isnt there ?
Thedelldays Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 How have we spent 17 million up front? Ramerez isn't a striker forward players..he means...quite clearly
saint-crinny Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Got to laugh at some of the comments in the build-up thread about how Arsenal aren't good enough to be 3-0 up after 60 minutes against us.

Still Fox has scored so he will keep his place next week.....oh hang on, there is a 17 year old as an alternative isnt there ? Is there any point in reminding you that 2 of their goals came down Clynes side, one came from a central free kick and the other was playing in behind the centrebacks?
Legod Third Coming Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 How have we spent 17 million up front? Ramerez isn't a striker He's an attacking midfielder my friend. That's up front in my book I'm not worried yet. The Chairman won't let us go down.

Yes, because its all my fault we have no defence and are being butt-f**ked by Arsenal, isnt it ?
St.Jeweller Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Well who'd of thought we would have THREE goalscoring defenders at the Emirates?
hypochondriac Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Im sat in the ground and believe me when I say that was a horror show. We just sat back and let them play.
MOSaint Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 The midfield should be getting just as much criticism as the defence here BTW, giving Podolski and Cazorla in particular way too much time on the ball, if you don't close players like that down they'll tear you to shreds.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Calm down dears. It was clear the first 3-4 games were going to be extremely difficult - so stay with the program and try to enjoy the next chapter in our history.
graveworm Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Nothing. We are stuck with what we have until January. More of what this group of players do to sort this out........... we can`t say we expected much from this However to be blown off the field is a bit of a disaster Adkins will need to act quick or he will join the dole queue
ALWAYS_SFC Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 It clearly wasn't ignored. Correct..just not as successful as would have been hoped i would suspect. Not ignored like our pram emptier suggests
alpine_saint Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 of course they will.......and its pretty much what Championship managers were saying last year too I suspect. Not even on the bench, otherwise I'd stick him on, goal or no goal from Fox.
dubai_phil Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Our midfield has played (or been forced to play?) so deep that we've just invited Arse to keep coming at us. They've poured forwards in numbers because they had nothing to worry about defensively. And don't even get me started on Kelvin. This, jwp is mot helping get him off al into the hole & Ramirez lm Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
beatlesaint Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Erm...? Go on then. Ok, there 11 players are better than ours in every comparison this afternoon, so thats 22. They are at home this time and not away. Newcastle were/are better than us. We are not tactically aware enough to mount any sort of pressure. will that do ?
Le Timmier Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 I had 2 quid on Hooiveld to be first goalscorer at 50-1. Kiss of death that was.
Ohio Saint Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 While I am in a slight wrist slitting mode, I will offer the half-excuse that the late closing transfer window does nothing to help the recently promoted clubs that need to build more than the established clubs do.
graveworm Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 At least we won the last 3 mins of the first half 1-0
max_saints Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 well it was 6-1 at highbury, we've done our part over to you arsenal
Saint_clark Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 On a positive note, when we have got hold of the ball for an extended period we've linked up well in the midfield and especially down the right.

InvictaSaint Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Yes, because its all my fault we have no defence and are being butt-f**ked by Arsenal, isnt it ? Where does she say it's your fault? Nowhere. Just that when the **** hits the fan - as it undeniably is doing today - you are at the front of the queue to repeatedly voice your opinion. Not a judgement; just a fact.
Crab Lungs Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 I'm going for 5-3, with Yoshida to belt in a debut own-goal after pinball with Cazorla, Podolski and Chamberlain.
Saint Fan CaM Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 The midfield should be getting just as much criticism as the defence here BTW, giving Podolski and Cazorla in particular way too much time on the ball, if you don't close players like that down they'll tear you to shreds. Absolutely this. The question is why is this happening? We've shown them far too much respect IMO - so is this the players or is it the Manager telling them to do this? One thing's for sure, it's pointless playing 4-5-1 (which is what went on out there in the 1st half) if you don't USE the midfield to nullify the play.
pangy Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Awful half to watch, hoping we can do better in the 2nd,not feeling the comeback if they step off the gas can see it being 6-1 if they go full steam ahead it will be depressing.

Mr X Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 It's far to early to say but how long long would you give Adkins? If we're bottom at Christmas is that too long?
badgerx16 Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Is there any point in reminding you that 2 of their goals came down Clynes side, one came from a central free kick and the other was playing in behind the centrebacks? Probably no point either in reminding people that Gazzaniga, Clyne, and Yoshida were all brought in during the summer.
ooh it's a corner Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Let's be realistic. Every year in the premiership we always used to get a tonking from someone. I'm as disappointed as the next Saints fan, but let's not go into a blind panic. Would you sooner be 4-1 down away at Arsenal at half time, or nil all at home to Walsall? We've just been spoilt in the past three seasons by winning more than we are used to. This makes getting a spanking hard to take, but it wont be the last one receive this season. I was expecting to be bottom after 4 games, as most of us were. We were hoping/expecting to have more than 0 points, but our points will come. Just not today.
SNSUN Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 We can only improve. Can't we? Half time sub surely. Bring on Ramirez!
Saint_clark Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 It's far to early to say but how long long would you give Adkins? If we're bottom at Christmas is that too long? Considering we can get relegated and promoted next season within the "5 year plan" I don't think he'll get sacked at all.
rog Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Good shout, it's early days in the premiership, prediction 5-3
mulletsaint Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 And to think people went on and on and on about posters being negative for worrying about the defence. Its a clear error that we ignored it. Right, hard hat well and truly in place. We obviously didn't ignore it due to the fact that we had bids for Butland turned down and had Buttner fall through due to the infamous third party. Maybe we felt that those we could get were no better than what we have. Due to the way we conduct our business we'll never know half the players we tried for so to claim that we weren't aware of where we need to strengthen is a flawed argument. I won't argue that we are incredibly short at the back. Unfortunately the opening fixtures we've been handed have left little room for error and errors are definitely something we seem to be specializing in at the moment.
dubai_phil Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 45% action in our third that is not defence at fault Sent from my HTC One X using Tapatalk 2
Crab Lungs Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Paul M on 81111 on text: "Might be early but anyone that watched us last year knew Fonte and Hoiveld were not good enough at this level. Wasted our money in the offseason. Adkins Out! Totally out of his depth." The knives are out on the south coast already... Who is this retard?
