ecuk268 Posted 11 September, 2012 Share Posted 11 September, 2012 It's a bit of a cartel as regards price. Lymington is shortest (about 25 minutes) but dumps you at the western end, Southampton is longest (1 hour) but you're fairly central. Mrs ecuk268 went over visiting friends recently from Southampton. It was £35 (midweek) but that included up to 7 passengers.

About 30 miles across but the roads are crap (and the drivers) so it can take a while to get to places. I lived there for 10 years. it can be a bit odd. Jillyanne Posted 11 September, 2012 Share Posted 11 September, 2012 If taking the car either Skatesmouth or Southampton, if on foot quickest is Southampton, however that takes you to Cowes with no train connection whereas Wightlink from Skatesmouth to Ryde Pierhead has rail links right through to Shanklin (best option imho) No part of travelling to the Island is cheap as it's commonly known as the most expensive stretch of water in the world ever!!! Enjoy though.
LGTL Posted 11 September, 2012 Share Posted 11 September, 2012 I travel that poxy bit of water every day for work. I can pretty much see my house from where I work, yet it takes me well over an hour. Irritating.
