Eastcowzer Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 I'm still stunned he's been called up at all; I very much doubted he would make it to full international level at all, let alone after 3 Premier League displays. But you do kind of have to think that all 3 call-ups are slightly bizarre; Sterling has only made a handful of first team appearances for Liverpool and Livermore too having only just broken through. Perhaps a sign of the times that Roy will pick players on actual current form; but I don't think any of the three will see any game time against Ukraine. Well done, son, you've obviously earned it, but it also goes to show that England managers should get out more, instead of being ,buttered up. by the so-called ' Big Four' or Five, whichever. They'd be surprised how much other latent talent is available in the Championship, instead of playing donkeys with Geordie accents
saint1977 Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Well done Adam, one of my favourite Saints players of the last 20 years. Has gone from lightweight kid with skill to a proper all-round midfielder although there is much more to come from him yet I believe. Stayed with us in League 1 (thank you too to Alan Pardew for talking him into winning medals with us rather than sat in a development team) when he could have taken a move to a PL club and sunk without trace. Lallana is going to have a much better career over the next 4 years than someone like Scott Sinclair who can only have gone to City for the money. You'd have thought he'd have learned from his Chelsea experience wouldn't you?

Here's a novel idea, Roy. Maybe there are 1 or 2 Championship players who might just offer you a better option than a bit-part player for a top 6 side. Adam Lallana didn't suddenly become a much better player by playing 3 Premier League games. Oxlade-Chamberlain didn't become international quality because he had £15M spent on him. Theo Walcott didn't become and England world cup squad player simply by having a £12M deal agreed for him. Rickie Lambert scored 27 goals and made 14 assists in the Championship last year. You simply can't tell me that he was miles in the running behind all the other candidates and wasn't worth at least a try. The same is true for players at the unfashionable Premier League clubs; Scott Sinclair, Nathan Dyer, Grant Holt, Danny Graham etc etc all at least worth a try.

Listening to journo on the radio this morning and they were talking about lck of English strikers.... Someone pointed out that Lambert has been on fire for the last 3 years and it is continuing in the prem.... He holds the ball up. Very good technically, dominates defenders and can throw in the odd assist.. The journo replied that Lambert is no way good enough for england.. When asked why.... The hack said, he lacks pace and is just not good enough Such a lazy reply I'm not saying Lambert is good enough or not but why chance does he have with the press if such ill-informed opinions are made. Sterling being picked ahead of Nathan dyer is a joke

Sterling being picked ahead of Nathan dyer is a joke Andy Carroll has pace, does he? Peter Crouch would be getting picked had he not thrown a hissy fit and refused to go on standby; he's got pace, has he? Journalists are so ignorant with their big club bias; its why Dyer won't get picked as he's not as much of a name as Sterling, who has played less than 10 first team games. Football365 is a bad as the rest of them; today they run a feature on the Premier League's top 10 teenagers. No inclusion for James Ward-Prowse, of course. Don't be silly, you have to be a Premier League top 10 player to get in this list. Arsenal x 2, Liverpool x2, Man City x 2, Man Utd, Newcastle, Everton, Fulham. Lazy, ignorant journalism.

LGTL Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Lallana on the bench. Hope he gets on, can't see it though.
hypochondriac Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Anyone who "retires" from international football for anything other than injury or age should never play for their country again.
Colinjb Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Lallana, "18" 18 doesn't really fit into a song like 'England's Number Three....'
The Kraken Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Anyone who "retires" from international football for anything other than injury or age should never play for their country again. Amen to that.
Bearsy Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Adam would be good in the role Cleverley's been given
hypochondriac Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Amen to that. I didn't know about Crouch. He can f*ck off TBH. Lost a load of respect for him.

The Kraken Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Adam would be good in the role Cleverley's been given Couldn't do any worse; Cleverley has been awful so far.
hypochondriac Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Couldn't do any worse; Cleverley has been awful so far. As evidenced by that horrendous miss. Adam would have scored.
The Kraken Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 F*cks sake, how has Cleverley missed that?! Absolute spacktard, he shouldn't be anywhere near an England shirt. Adz; get warmed up son.....
Saint Garrett Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Not sure, one of the only negatives about Lallana is he misses quite a lot of chances. Would definitely be more effective than Cleverley though. He is the England version of Guly.
egg Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Couldn't do any worse; Cleverley has been awful so far. Agreed. Milner has been equally sh!t though.
hypochondriac Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Agreed. Milner has been equally sh!t though. Milner is always awful.
The Kraken Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 OK, f*ck off now Cleverley you club-footed sh*te-hawk.
Bearsy Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Man someone needs to give Dumberley the old hook FFS!
hypochondriac Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 FFS I could do better than Cleverley. So frustrating to have Adam on the bench when you have this absolute sh*t on the pitch. It's insulting.
hypochondriac Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Cleverley gives the ball away again...
S-Clarke Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 What was up with the Cesc comparrions after Moldova? It's typical for everyone to get carried away after a 5-0 win over a conference standard team isn't it? Cleverly is another player in the long line of England players, that i simply don't get. I don't know what they do. They don't score, they don't create, they don't influence the game at all. Yet they're raved about. Same came be said for Milner and Welbeck. Oh, but they run around alot.
trousers Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 At the game. Bring on Lallana at half time FFS. Cleverly is poor!
S-Clarke Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 At the game. Bring on Lallana at half time FFS. Cleverly is poor! Wouldn't want Lallana out there tonight if I'm honest. Not the greatest situation to make your England debut, could do more harm than good as he'd struggle to get into the game with the way we're playing. I'd pop on someone like Carrick and push Gerrard into Cleverley's position.
S-Clarke Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Why does Milner play for England? Because he runs around alot, and works hard. That's the only reason.
Saints foreva Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Sterling will be on that pitch before Lallana is.
S-Clarke Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Sterling will be on that pitch before Lallana is. He'd be a good shout actually. Swing it around in the 2nd half. Cleverley off, Carrick on - push Gerrard into Cleverly's position. Milner off, Sterling on. Get Chambo and Sterling getting their boots white and stretch the game, get them to rotate as well as they're quite able to do that. It would give us an injection into our attack and a bit of variation. We're still incredibly predictable. and Milner is a full backs dream, you could sit on an arm chair all game if you were a full back against him, because you know that when he's given the ball he will check back, stop, look, and pass back. Every.Single.Time.
Avenue Saint Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Until the day we value guile over graft, we wont even get a passing sniff of a trophy...
Thedelldays Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Cleverly is so average is it unreal How is he remotely better than lallana? He just isnt
Saint Garrett Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Cleverly is so average is it unreal How is he remotely better than lallana? He just isnt Because he plays for Man Utd so that automatically makes him better.....
Thedelldays Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 There is NO WAY Adam will get on tonight. Well are just not creating anything.... Ukraine are happy to sit back... What is the point in milner being on Ffs
Mr_Red Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 In fairness, only hart (who hasn't really done much) and baines are playing alright. Agree that it's not a good game for Adam. Like beatts playing vs the Aussies was spoilt by the **** around him.
Saint Garrett Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Chamberlain isn't playing very well either.
S-Clarke Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Chamberlain isn't playing very well either. Nope, not at all. He's having an absolute stinker.
hypochondriac Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Bit harsh on Gerrard. At least he has been creative.
James Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 Tom Cleverley is crap, only reason he is on the field is because he plays for Man U. Adam is a much better player and would have stuck those chances away. If Adam played for Man U then he'd be on the pitch and doing a better job. Roy's 'new England' is just the same as always, big club mentality with only players from top 4/5 who are all distinctly average. Stifles any talent coming through really.
Thedelldays Posted 11 September, 2012 Posted 11 September, 2012 I was a big believer in Roy... But this game has really opened my eyes
