Lallana called up for England.

Excellent news, for him. Since signing the 5 year deal the club has not looked back and now he get the recognition he deserves, all be it probably not a run out.

Does England recognition really help or hinder? I guess it shows you can play for England if you play for Saints, but the last time I said that on here Bridge ****ed off five minutes later to Chelsea.

Crouch also did this, made his England debut and then left without playing another game for Saints - though in his defence we had just been relegated.

..and about time, too.

A shame it takes an injury crisis to get him in the squad though.

I must say that without the " regular " faces in the squad, there have been some pretty dubious selections during the last year, but I suppose everyone will get a go ..sooner or later.

Of course it's an honour to get picked anyway, but the real test is to get on the pitch and make an impact.

Now let's hope that Adam can get a chance to play and show what he's really capable of ....

I understand Alpine's concern re: MLT.

As I said earlier, there's no way he can be referring to MLT :

"The England set-up brought a premature end to the career of the best player we've ever had' date=' imo."[/quote']

Last England appearance 1997 (1998 for England B), followed by four further seasons as a Saints first teamer (arguably 5 though he barely played in 2001/2).

Injuries accrued for England = 0. Age at retirement ? 34.

How can anyone possibly begin to suggest that England had any bearing whatsoever on MLT's career ? He retired at 34 and playing for England if anything would have led to him playing more matches for England, potentially getting more injuries than the ones he retired from, and thereby playing less for Saints than he actually did.

I'd love to see someone put together a coherent defence of that quote. Of course, I won't.

looks nice in print, but why aren't the players named Alphabetically ? ...and why have they highlighted every name in red - except Adam Lallana?

Alphabetical order of first name ;) and more sinister, maybe because there was no squad player profile to link to.

Less sinister, that's because he hasn't been involved with the U21s or U19s recently. Sterling's link goes to his junior profile, Livermore has one with the senior squad...

...as does Lallana now : http://www.thefa.com/England/All-Teams/Players/L/Adam-Lallana

So the short answer is "they didn't hyperlink his name".

curious to know who you're referring to?

MLT I think

That would be my guess???????? come on Alps give us a clue

How can it be MLT? His career was not brought to a premature end by the England setup. It was brought to a (slightly) premature end by a niggling recurring injury - nowt to do with England.

I had assumed that as we were all mind readers with the ability to relate to the warped logic of a certain poster that everyone would be completely clear to his meaning, and that the various responses asking for clarification were from idiots.

Oh no wait, I meant to type the complete opposite.

All the ooo's and ahhhs will be for Sterling when he runs up a blind alley. Livermore will do what Rodwell normally does. Pass to centre halves, run around, not making any impact (yet get lauded as a tidy footballer). Lallana will prove to be the creative spark England have missed and will come out of this better than the others. All the fanfare will be about Sterling initially, then the Prem tourists will start to realise how good Adam is and jump on the bandwagon.

Massively pleased for him, though little worried he's surrounded by utter kn0bheads.

Don't have the direct quote to hand, but think Tiss has said in the past that the way he was treated by England (scoring a hatrick and hitting the woodwork for England B, then not getting picked) made him lose some of his enthusiasm for football and took away one of the things he'd always been working towards in the game. Always going to have a detrimental effect on anyone.

Very pleased for him and us. It is deserved particularly when you recall the crap performances by Carrick, Welbeck and less so Cleverley against us. All three were crap again when they were still selected and played for England against League 1 standard Moldova. I hope he gets on and I hope he does well.

Nice one. I'm going to the game tomorrow so that's helped me decide what shirt to wear :-)

It had better b proper red and white stripes. Not this semi pink ******** that forest used to wear!!!

On a serious note. Congrats to Adam and a good touch by him to mention saints academy. A true captain in the making.

Since he has been called up I am surprised Lambert is not there. Sturridge is out as is Walcott. Very thin on me ground and he as the bet Englishman on pitch vs united... or is hod son blind?

Super job on the call up, Mr Lallana.

For me, this is a bit like the scene in Goodfellas where Henry is explaining why Tommy becoming a "made man" is such a big deal for him and Jimmy, like they're getting made by association. I will not get an England call-up. I'm 37 and was always crap at playing anyway. So Ads getting a call up is the best I can hope for :)

More seriously though, very good precedent and should act as inspiration for anyone in our team with aspirations of getting an England cap. The news has made my Monday.

Great story really, pleased for him.

Wolves wanted him 3 odd years ago, they lodged bids which were under consideration. If ML and Co hadn't have come in when they did, I'm sure he'd have had to make the same deciion as Drew.

But he was loyal, he didn't demand to leave (As you saw with pillocks such as McGoaldrought) as I'm pretty sure he was aware of the interest. He just kept his head down. And it goes to show that making the jump to get into the PL quickly, doesn't always work out as you'd expect.

He could have well gone to Wolves and been a bit part player, and then found himself a league below us a year or so later. But he's decided to stick with us, go through the leagues with us, and he's now rewarded with being a key player in our premier league side and our captain - and is now part of the England squad. Should be a message to all young players when the temptation is to run before you can walk.
