Pleased for Adam great for him he must be very proud and if he plays I'll cheer him on with gusto.....however from a purely selfish saints fan point of view I'd rather our best players weren't anywhere near their international squads got enough on our plate this season with out our better players having extra games or worse suffering a injury while playing for their country.

Well done to Adam, pleased for him that hes received the honour. He is a worthy addition to the squad

BUT (and somebody's got to say it...) Is this really good news ?

Hodgson wont play him, he plays for the wrong club. Is there a space on the bench that needs to be kept warm or Woy gets in trouble with the top 4 clubs as their 100,000-a-week superstars catch a cold from the breeze from the gap ?

This is NOT me putting Adam down (he has to be above Milner in the ability stakes), I think he can do a job for England. I am also not trolling or being negative for the sake of it. I am concerned about one of our most important players being f**ked around by the FA and England manager, just as MLT was, and the effect it might have on his club performances. I also seem to recall he (it might have been Drew Surman, but I dont think so) had a bit of a sticky billy-big-balls patch of substandard performances after Pearce called him up a few years ago.

We need to be careful here, thats all I am saying. Will never forget my sons's team benched him for the next game after he scored 5 goals in an insane 15mins burst, just to stop him acting a prima-donna if it didnt happen next time.

Its good news because it shows he can get to the England squad with Saints.

And good news because a player who has given his all for us, could easily have left, and is now our captain, has been recognised as a quality player.

He deserves this more than any other player in the England squad IMO.

Has far more skill than any of the players he replaces, Theo and Sturridge, and loads more intelligence. Plus, out of Livermore Sterling or Lallana...please don't tell me he is not better than those....If RH asks him to play i would be massively made up ( i would love it, really love it...) to see him come on, replace Oxo at some point, score a fantasy goal or two and make himself an instant England hero!

Well, cant argue with any of that. Just hope it gets handled correctly.

Any of you going to make the trip now ?

The fact that Raheem Sterling has got a call up based on 2 half competent performances in a mostly dire Liverpool team says much about Hodgson's desire to include anyone who might vaguely be an exciting young prospect - which is not an altogether bad thing given the turgid dirge that watching England usually is. Can't rationalise Jake Livermore getting called up purely for existing at Spurs though.

Congratulations due to Lallana nevertheless - they can even claim the usual "Prem-blindness" isn't applicable because he's now proven himself against Man U and Man City which is a whole different level to the Championship, even though he hasn't improved noticeably any more than Oxlade-Chamberlain did in the month or two before his call up after replicating his League One performances in the Champions League group stage.

As with Walcott, you do wonder just how much attention the England staff are paying to non-Prem players who are perfectly competent.

Gary Neville was especially complimentary of him and RL the other day so I'm not overly surprised. I actually said to my mate that I was certain. He would be involved in a squad at some point this season.

So pleased for him, well done Adam.

Chicken or Egg - did Neville get him the squad, or had Woy already talked about him to Neville when he made the comments ?

Lallana's a great role model for the academy players. He stayed when he could have moved, he's made captain, and now he's called up by England. Excellent news.

The first real potential successor to Matty in terms of club standing, imo.

And I say that as one who was fairly critical of him 2-3 years ago.

But it is a signal of intent - he's now on the radar scope, albeit at the fringes (if it isnt a PR exercise to counter recent criticism in the Press)

I'm still stunned he's been called up at all; I very much doubted he would make it to full international level at all, let alone after 3 Premier League displays. But you do kind of have to think that all 3 call-ups are slightly bizarre; Sterling has only made a handful of first team appearances for Liverpool and Livermore too having only just broken through.

Perhaps a sign of the times that Roy will pick players on actual current form; but I don't think any of the three will see any game time against Ukraine.

Which is why I am slighty cynical about this. Meeting up with England squad will be a memorable experience for him though, and he wont have to pay for a ticket tomorrow night now..

I think it indicates that Hodgson/Neville see all three players as part of their plans going forward and this is a chance to get them used to the experience (whilst providing cover) so that when they do get game time they're not overwhelmed by it all.

I agree; I just would normally have expected such call-ups to be for a friendly. But as you say, even if Roy has no intention of playing them, they will gain from the experience if they do get called up again.

Gary Neville would have seen first hand the ability of Lallana against Man United, so that's fairly encouraging if its been his influence that has led to the call-up.
