Denzil Posted 7 September, 2012 Share Posted 7 September, 2012 Loads of games in 2005. Villa, M'boro, Everton, Pompey, Man Utd. The 4-1 at Fratton gets my vote.
View From The Top Posted 7 September, 2012 Share Posted 7 September, 2012 A better question is "when did you last leave a saints game feeling like a million dollars?" Right! I can't remember such a game either, win, lose or draw somehow Saints always manage to somehow fall shor of expectations.. if it finishes 1-0 "it should have been 4 or 5!", if it finishes 1-1 "it should have been 4-1!", if it finishes 4-0 "it should have been a hatful!" Know what I mean and the poor effing cat gets it in the Guly's whatever. Shut up you fuc.king tool.

Halo Stickman Posted 7 September, 2012 Share Posted 7 September, 2012 Agree with others that Highbury 84 takes some beating, not just because we lost the game but because I fervently believe we would have beaten Watford in the final and that would have acted as a springboard to even greater success. Instead, we started on a slow decline from that point onwards. However, another game that sticks in my craw is an FA cup tie around 1972 when we were in the top flight and lost at home to Wrexham from Div 3. At the time, I was still young and naïve enough to believe that **** things like that just didn’t happen to Saints. Aaagh, those were the days

I think that it was a fifth round game in 1974 and we ended up getting relegated at the end of the season.
BallBoy Posted 7 September, 2012 Share Posted 7 September, 2012 I can't say anything original but have to agree, for those of us old enough to remember, Highbury '84 was the most gutted, desolate and physically painful I have ever felt after a football match. Reasons: 1) It was a piddly, horrible little goal in the last minute of injury time. 2) We were favourites for the cup in a time when it still meant something. 3) We had a fantastic team. 4) The goal was right in front of the Everton fans who really made us suffer. 5) It was a long way home. 6) We could have gone on to even greater things, attracting even better players and establishing ourselves as a top 3 team. 7) It was unlucky. I can still feel it now.
The9 Posted 7 September, 2012 Share Posted 7 September, 2012 The two Pompey matches from last season (surprised they haven't had more of a mention). The one at home was the worst moment but we were appalling in that match and deserved what we got. But the Fratton Park draw irritates me more because we really should have won and would have had Adkins decided to replace Fox (never forget the look on his face) with Harding who needlessly belted the ball out for the corner which led to their goal. Glad he's gone now. ****er. Or could have not "needlessly" cleared the ball from the through ball he intercepted, and they'd have scored 30 seconds earlier... The reason they haven't had more of a mention is because we didn't lose and we were the better side, what's there to be bothered about ?

The9 Posted 7 September, 2012 Share Posted 7 September, 2012 A better question is "when did you last leave a saints game feeling like a million dollars?" I felt great after both the Stevenage match and the Man City game. 2/4 isn't bad considering...
Badger Posted 7 September, 2012 Share Posted 7 September, 2012 Another vote for Everton in the Cup at Highbury in 84. Longest journey home ever, totally totally heartbroken that day. Dreadful journey home. Baking hot day in the sun at the Clock End,Highbury fuelled on drink, illicitly smuggled onto the coach and a pub near the ground. 120minutes later, should have won it, short-arsed bastard Heath, pitch etc Four f^cking hours snaking out of London on a coach - no air conditioning in those days - and a coach driver whose only tape to take our minds off the sports radio, was The Thompson Twins. There is a limit to how many times you can hear 'Doctor, Doctor' before you reach the M3 I can tell you. So not only do I detest Everton to this day, but The Thompso Tw^ts bring me out in a rash, and an outbreak of Tourrettes.
