Big_Bald_Si Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Interesting survey: http://thechriswhitingshow.wordpress.com/2012/08/28/2012-football-rivalry-census-results/
CB Fry Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Quite annoying that Bompey have sneaked in as our third rivals. Would have been great if there was no acknowledgement of them at all.
saint_disco123 Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 how on earth are pompey the 20th most offensive club? they should be much higher! Apart from that Looks about right, but some very odd ones there. for example QPRs 3rd rivals are Cardiff city/Stoke fc? I would of thought Arsenal or another big london team would be the 3rd choice.
doddisalegend Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Are Readings main rivals really Aldershot?...not many chances to fan the flames on that one
Saint_Randell Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Hahahah Bournemouth's main rivalry is us

There was an incident at a hotel involving a fire alarm being set off and waking players prior to a QPR v Cardiff playoff final which might explain that one.
Saint Garrett Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Hahahah Bournemouth's main rivalry is us Bless.
ericb Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Quite annoying that Bompey have sneaked in as our third rivals. Would have been great if there was no acknowledgement of them at all. To be fair the more people that use that fuc.king ridiculous "Bompey" term the more people will think it is. They're Bournemouth or the Cherries, and have been as long as i can remember.
ericb Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 There was an incident at a hotel involving a fire alarm being set off and waking players prior to a QPR v Cardiff playoff final which might explain that one. Or more likely the history of trouble between the two sets of fans i'd guess.
Yeovil Saint Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 I get why Bompey dislike Saints, we're the overshadowing local neighbours, but what have Brighton done to them to be second biggest rivals?
saintmatt Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Quite annoying that Bompey have sneaked in as our third rivals. Would have been great if there was no acknowledgement of them at all. Quite annoying that some people correctly deny the rivalry yet insist on referring to them as "Bompey"

They're Bournemouth or the Cherries, and have been as long as i can remember. I quite like Bournemouth, always nice to see them doing well. Plus it has always been somewhere where we can send our youngsters. (McGoldrick, Surman, Lallana, Barnard) and I'm sure there has been plenty more!
Big_Bald_Si Posted 6 September, 2012 Author Posted 6 September, 2012 I get why Bompey dislike Saints, we're the overshadowing local neighbours, but what have Brighton done to them to be second biggest rivals? It's not a huge survey (1,200 fans?), expect it'll be based largely on the past couple of years in Championship/League one, when Poyet decided to mouth off about us almost every week.
Junction 9 Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 I had never heard of the Bournemouth - Reading rilvary until I read that. Odd one.
dellboypete Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 how on earth are pompey the 20th most offensive club? they should be much higher! Apart from that Looks about right, but some very odd ones there. for example QPRs 3rd rivals are Cardiff city/Stoke fc? I would of thought Arsenal or another big london team would be the 3rd choice. But why are Crawley rated as 14th most offensive? presumably the cash rich sugar daddy - or have I missed something?
Minty Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 But why are Crawley rated as 14th most offensive? presumably the cash rich sugar daddy - or have I missed something? Their old manager probably helped... he was pretty offensive.
farawaysaint Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Can't we hate someone better than Bournemouth/ Brighton?
Minty Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Watford's biggest rival is Leeds? Yeah right. Luton, all day long.
pingwing Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Watford's biggest rival is Leeds? Yeah right. Non-League clubs are not included in the survey (says at the top) so there's one or two odd ones like that with Luton stuck in the conference till they sort it out.... Glad MK Dons are still considered one of the most offensive clubs in the country, really not a fan of them kicking about my home town.
alpine_saint Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 LOL at Bournemouth getting ideas above their station...
Guest flickjax Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 I don't care about Brighton either tbh
Flyer Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 There was an incident at a hotel involving a fire alarm being set off and waking players prior to a QPR v Cardiff playoff final which might explain that one. Set off by Sam Hammans bodyguard as well. Also we were competing for years in L1 and then the NPC for promotion so every game was a 6 pointer. Theres quite a bit of trouble between Stoke and QPR including one of their fans getting onto the pitch and attacking our goalie but then the FA charged QPR because one of our players hit him. A few incidents like that and the rivalry heats up.
View From The Top Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Stoke have West Brom 2nd but there is never mither when they play. However, when Stoke play Wolves it's carnage!
VectisSaint Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 To be fair the more people that use that fuc.king ridiculous "Bompey" term the more people will think it is. They're Bournemouth or the Cherries, and have been as long as i can remember. We used to refer to them as Boscombe
RingySFC Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 What a load of ******. Skates yes but seriously don't give a toss about Brighton or Bournemouth
suewhistle Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Non-League clubs are not included in the survey (says at the top) so there's one or two odd ones like that with Luton stuck in the conference till they sort it out.... Maidenhead United hate Slough Town - or at least did in my yoof when Nick Hornby was going to Magpies games..
Cheese on Toast Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 This is totally wrong... I live in cheltenham who see Hereford as main rivals and they're not even there.
Berkshire Saint Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Maidenhead United hate Slough Town - or at least did in my yoof when Nick Hornby was going to Magpies games.. Marlow more than Slough I'd say.
krissyboy31 Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 This is totally wrong... I live in cheltenham who see Hereford as main rivals and they're not even there. More so Gloucester City, especially when they were a non-league team.
Cheese on Toast Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 More so Gloucester City, especially when they were a non-league team. More Hereford now.. anyway the point is the article is wrong
70's Mike Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 easy for me, whoever we are playing are my rivals, hate em all for 105 mins
mynameisthehulk Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Glad to see The Posh and The Cobblers still at it, despite being 50 miles apart and rarely in the same division
adrian lord Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 What is Norwich's beef with Leeds? Some of the third rivals have been made up to fill the space it would seem.
Golden Balls Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Ido giggle when Bournemouth call us scummers. I genuinely like them and I think that annoys them more
saintmatt Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Wish they'd listed which main rivalries were reciprocated, can't be bothered to work it out myself! Odd that WBA have switched their attentions to Villa..
Horley CTFC Saint Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 But why are Crawley rated as 14th most offensive? presumably the cash rich sugar daddy - or have I missed something? So many reasons: 1. The Majeed brothers 2. Steve Evans 3. Lack of transparency about where the money has come from These are the main three - people have long memories seemingly
CB Fry Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 More Hereford now.. anyway the point is the article is wrong I lived in Cheltenham for eight years and it was Gloucester, even when the Robins were well established in the league. And then Swindon which is top of the rankings on this survey and sounds about right. Hereford? Never known anyone in Cheltenham that would class HUFC as their main rival. So this Hereford thing must have happened quite recently if true. You sure you live in Cheltenham, Dune? You never used to. Is it part of the new persona?

So this Hereford thing must have happened quite recently if true. You sure you live in Cheltenham, Dune? You never used to. Is it part of the new persona? I quite often go to matches and I'd say Hereford and Bristol Rovers are about even... there's even a song about how they hate hereford
Joe Kirkup Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Maidenhead United hate Slough Town - or at least did in my yoof when Nick Hornby was going to Magpies games.. When I was a nipper I would go to watch the Rebels if not watching Saints and Wycombe were always rivals - hardly ever played Maidenhead. Windsor in cup games was always fun.
St_Tel49 Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 It's not a huge survey (1,200 fans?), expect it'll be based largely on the past couple of years in Championship/League one, when Poyet decided to mouth off about us almost every week. 1200 fans divided by approx 80 clubs over 4 divisions = +15 fans per club. There is no statistical validity to the survey whatsoever
