Saint Billy Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 When it was first unveiled I actually liked the new red kit. A few games in and I have done a total u-turn. I now think it is bland and uninspiring and I miss the stripes. Anyone else?
Thedelldays Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 what kit isn't bland and uninspiring ..?
Golden Balls Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Exactly the same. Liked it at first, but it just doesn't look like us out on the pitch. Red shorts and socks make the missing white even worse.
Midfield_General Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Absolutely hate everything about it.
Saint Garrett Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Really like the kit. Just not 'Southampton'....so pretty much exactly the same as what I thought when we brought it out. However I can put up with it for one season, it's not that bad.
OldNick Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 it is a brilliant kit where we dont get confused with Sunderland, Stoke, Exeter and many foreign teams. New club new identity

Thedelldays Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 It is horrible, bring back the sash. that is not us, it does not feel like us, it has very little to do with SFC..other than seeing the odd black and white picture
Joneth Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Hate it, possibly the worst home kit in our history. The white away kit on the other hand looks great.
Saint Garrett Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Is it definately for one season only? Hope you are right! What was the point of it for one season only? All Umbro kits have been for 1 season only. Think thats the same across all the clubs they supply.
La BoIS Saint Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Was watching the game in the pub on Sunday. Got questions like "why are Saints wearing the 80s Liverpool kit". It's rubbish.
alpine_saint Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Lukewarm. I like it on my kids, but not on the team. Actually, I have a question about the printing service. A relative dashed down SMS when it came out and got my kids inital and surname printed with their choice of number on the shirts. But the shop didnt bother with "." between the initial and surname. Is that normal or has my relative been ripped off ? I reckon it looks a little odd without it.
rick1976.4.38 Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 hated it since day one and still hate it. fine if you support the scousers but saints ,no. the sooner we are back in red and white stripes the better
Shrivvy Saint Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 The first time in decades I've not bought our new shirt and will continue to wear last seasons for this. It's simply not our strip, end of.
doddisalegend Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 I like red and white srtipes that is saints to me ...but as I don't were replica tops I'm not that fussed
Patrick Bateman Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 I'm not bothered, but, I would have swapped the two kits around - white as home and the red one as an away kit with a 3rd kit of the normal yellow.
CB Fry Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 it is a brilliant kit where we dont get confused with Sunderland, Stoke, Exeter and many foreign teams. New club new identity Well we're not getting confused with Southampton anyway. But yes, how brilliant be the only club in world football to play in plain red.
dellgirl Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Don't like it at all, looks cheap and nasty , also doesn't seem to fit very well ! while I am having negative moment hate the new official website, the ticket office and we need to strengthen at the back...but we will not be relegated.
Hatch Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 I still don't even understand how it got past the first stage when everyone was sat around a table thinking of new ideas months and months back.
Shroppie Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Just don't like it. Our tradition calls for a combination of red and white, not one at home and one away. But the away shirt is quite smart and I've bought one. Couldn't bring myself to get a red one.
trousers Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 My levels of ambivalence about whether a football kit is good or bad are unchanged.
James_O_Mac Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 I like it purely for the fact that it's so different. But I don't understand the red shorts.
alpine_saint Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 it is a brilliant kit where we dont get confused with Sunderland, Stoke, Exeter and many foreign teams. New club new identity I sympathise with the idea of distinguishing ourselves from those teams, and always have. Thats why I love the sash (though would change the shorts and sock colours if it made another appearance) and have argued for a return of the quarters.
Webby Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Good question. I hated it when it came out. It's just not Saints. Having said that, now that I've watched all 3 league games so far, I have gotten used to it. Doesn't mean I like it though.

Are you sure that's the shirt's fault?
Saint Mark Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 After England and Man City have both confirmed their new manufacturer will be Nike, I wonder if we will follow next season? I'm sure I read somewhere that Nike and Umbro are linked. Either way our design will change next year so I can live with the all red, in fact I don't mind it as a one off!
CB Fry Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 I sympathise with the idea of distinguishing ourselves from those teams, and always have. Thats why I love the sash (though would change the shorts and sock colours if it made another appearance) and have argued for a return of the quarters. This I agree with - if we moved to the sash permanently, or even quarters, I can see it. Fine. But what we have done is neither distinctive nor reflective of our history. It's an utterly anonymous, thoughtless, tossed off piece of crap. We're now aping Swindon and Barnsley. And Forest. And Liverpool. And so on. Oh well, we're stuck with it. I'm over it Let's see what we come up with next season.
DJ_TOAST Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Want stripes back, we would have won those first 3 games had we been in stripes, FACT.
Scummer Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Looking around the stadium on matchday, we seem to have sold loads. So someone must like it.
bender Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 I'm happy as long as its for only one season. Maybe NC thought it would be a good idea as you could argue it looks more professional - maybe beneficial as he tries to open Saints up to be a global brand (eg in Japan)
dellboypete Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Didn't like it when it came out, and still don't. Quite like the white away strip though
Saints foreva Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Looks awful. What's with the random grey lines on it as well?
beatlesaint Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Dont like it at all, thank God its only a season. Even the wife said "where's the white ? you are supposed to be stripes aren't you ?" Even the plain red shirts of the mid 80's has more white than this bloody thing.
The9 Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 When it was first unveiled I actually liked the new red kit. A few games in and I have done a total u-turn. I now think it is bland and uninspiring and I miss the stripes. Anyone else? I still hate it, but I bought it last week. I know that makes no sense, I'm treating it like a school uniform. I wear the shirt to matches, that's just what I do. If I start questioning that, I might start questioning why I like football at all, and we can't have that, I'd get really bored, really quickly. Basically a mate won one in a competition, already had a shirt and the wife managed to get it cheap. I still much prefer the white kit but we're not likely to wear it for a while yet so I didn't get that one yet. The fact I already have the third kit has lessened the blow.
The9 Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Looking around the stadium on matchday, we seem to have sold loads. So someone must like it. Not necessarily.
aintforever Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Just not Saints, at least the 80's variations still kept some sort of proportions of red, white and black.
The9 Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 After England and Man City have both confirmed their new manufacturer will be Nike, I wonder if we will follow next season? I'm sure I read somewhere that Nike and Umbro are linked. Either way our design will change next year so I can live with the all red, in fact I don't mind it as a one off! Umbro are currently owned by Nike (as of about 18 months ago), and Nike have sold the high profile Umbro contracts to themselves. Having done this they are now selling off the shell of Umbro without any kit deals - Mike Ashley is rumoured to be interested and Umbro are expected to rebrand as "Lonsdale" type training and leisurewear producers only, probably with Sportsdirect.com distribution. None of the other Umbro teams are getting renewed Umbro deals, and Sunderland and West Brom (amongst others) have already jumped to adidas because Umbro weren't around to negotiate with. It's irrelevant to us though, our Umbro kit deal runs out at the end of this season so we're free to negotiate with anyone. The Man City Umbro deal was for TEN YEARS and was only signed 2 years ago, but due to the takeover of Umbro they're wearing Nike from next season.
MrMojoRisin Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 New club new identity SFC formed in 2009 as some people would love you to believe
SNOWY Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 Shocking kit. Our first season back in the prem & we look like Swindon Town. I do like the away kit though.
niceandfriendly Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 The kit hasn't changed has it? It's still class. To those saying "it's not Southampton"... I think you'll find that's exactly what it is.
saintant Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 It's jinxed. We haven't picked up a single point when wearing it. Bring back the red and white stripes!
edprice1984 Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 I am sure I read that our agreement with Umbro is up at the end of the 2012/13 season.
SaintRichmond Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 The kit imposed on us this season IS NOT SAINTS Krap Kit, Krap Decision IMHO If I wanted to watch a Team playing in all Red, I'd go to Anfieldd
adrian lord Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 I think it is ghastly. The shade of red looks dirty and dull on the players on the actual pitch. Makes us look like a tired old club like Villa for some reason. All replica kits look abominable on fans to be honest, but then perhaps I'm a scowling, designer clobber-clad ageing wannabee.
Fan The Flames Posted 6 September, 2012 Posted 6 September, 2012 I don't mind it, we certainly have had worse over the years, but they all come and go. I would like to see us adopt The Sash permenantly.
