Gary Neville commentary re Man u

I watched the game on Sky and thought the worst when Neville was the co commentator. He was superb and totally unbiased, no gripes or snipes when we leading and praised us. He mentioned how he hated going to the Dell etc etc. Since he first started on Sky my respect for him has grown, he is a very decent pundit and probably now the best on all channels

I had my reservations regarding the Shop steward, but his utterly professional manner has shone through in his punditry.

An intelligent and articulate man who offers genuine tactical insight and provides an entertaining unbiased perspective. Glad he's involved with the England set up.

I thought the same as you when he was appointed by Sky for the role but my god has my opinion changed of him. Totally unbiased, praises opposition, not afraid to criticise Utd, extremely thorough analysis on MNF - Superb pundit IMO.

Definitely a masterstroke by Hodgson getting him involved in the national setup.

Ditto. Was very complimentary about our play, but when it was justified, i.e. not just patronising but also rightly analysed the "step up" needed from the lower leagues etc. Very impressed

I agree with Neville as he has been superb, however the best that I enjoy listening to is Stan Collymore. The FA need to find a role on the panel for him as his views are top class.

Collymore is also good. Big believer is players from the NPC to be given a chance and does not focus on top 6.

Just have to add.

That orgasm when Torres scored against Barcelona in injury time .... comedy highlight of last season.

Did he have another one when Van Persie scored the winner on Sunday? I couldn't bring myself to watch the recording when I got back from the match.

Neville is absolutely brilliant on sky

Him and ed Chamberlain are a massive step up from keys and gray

Roy Keane is good when he glares at childs and looks like he is about to tear his face off

This.

Neville has been superb, I thought he would be dreadful but he is the best pundit on tv.

I was another who was sceptical, but he has been fantastic. By far the best football pundit Sky or anybody else has on the TV IMO. As has already been said here, him and Ed Chamberlain are a huge upgrade on Keys & Gray.

Pretty sure he said when appointed as a coach for England by Hodgson that he had no interest in becoming a manager, which is a shame as he'd make a fantastic one I think. Good work by Roy getting him involved in the England set up though.

100% agree, was worried about him but he has been brilliant, a refreshing change especially to the likes of ITV's horrific Man Utd bias or the Liverpool bias on BBC.

For once everybody seems to agree-could this be a record! Nearly all thought he'd be awful and to their surprise has proved to be exceptional. He's certainly the one comentator worth listening to. He is also able to explain the art of defending very clearly. He was even able to joke about the grey shirts!

If he was biased in any way it was to pick out and criticise the full back play on both sides - may be deservedly so. Top summariser.

BTW speaking of the full backs. It was very noticeable that Adkins likes the full backs to tuck in. This does make us rather narrow and gives the wide men a lot of room to pick out a cross. I assume this is to make use more compact down the middle. If the full backs are tucked in are we expecting our wide players to press the wingers / fullbacks getting down the sides a bit more?

I remember him being set up by rio Ferdinand over some motor offence with a bogus copper. Merked or something it was called. The copper was willing to forget it if Neville gave him an autograph, Giggs was telling him to do it so he could get away with it but he was having none of it. It showed he had a great deal of integrity for me. Liked him ever since. Great replacement for gray and co.

Gary is a player that everyone (other than Man U fans) loved to hate. I put this down, mainly, to his outspoken passion and single minded focus on doing his best for his club no matter what, which could come across as a f.uck you attitude. He didn't care whether he was liked or not. All he cared about was that red jersey.

Most that hated him, of course, didn't know him, but now, as a pundit and co commentator, people are realising what a great pro he is. Intelligent and articulate about the game he loves.

I think I will buy his book.

He's a breath of fresh air to sky. Key's and Grays sexism sacking was the best thing that ever happened. It's allowed them to refresh the entire format, and Monday night football is now better than it ever has been - real top quality show to watch in terms of analyzing etc. and Chamberalin as the anchor is excellent.

Neville knows his stuff, very tactically aware and he calls everything spot on. As a player, he wasn't everyone's favorite, but he's gone up in my estimations since he's been doing Sky. One of the best pundits around, and he's only been doing it a year or so.

Wasn't there a thread on this a while back where a few of us said he was good and everyone else said he was a wan*ker, boring and sh*t? Amazing what a few nice words about Saints can do.

My recollection of it was of it being as positive as this one.

When I heard that he was being lined up for sky I so, so wanted him to fail, be shyte, etc. (Sad bitter fan in me I guess). But I have to say that he has been top drawer, looked a little nervous on his first outing (MNF), but only to be expected really - but has gone from strength to strength since. I have little doubt that Ed Chamberlain has had much to do with his mentoring - but Gary Neville now looks, sounds and presents himself as a seasoned TV pundit. Really impressed with his knowledge about the game, love the way he is totally unbiased, gives credit where due and not afraid to critisize Utd - also his analysis and explanation is first class.

As an aside saw his brother Phil being interviewed by Ed and Gary a couple of weeks back and have to say that he too sounds intelligent, articulate and interesting. Spoke very fluently about Everton's good start to the season and the 'feel good' factor in and around the dressing room. Not somebody that you see do a lot of interviews, but he took it in his stride and looked pretty natural in front of the cameras.

Any bets on 'The Neville & Neville show', live on sky in a couple of years.

Ahh... clearly I'm far from the only one, then! I didn't particularly like him when he played for Man U, and on many occasions I questioned how on earth he got into the England squad, let alone the starting eleven.

I wasn't expecting much at all when he went to Sky - but boy, was I wrong. He's interesting, articulate, knows the game extremely well - and is really good at explaining it. What's more, despite his long association with Man U, he's completely fair and unbiased - that goes for the match on Sunday, and in his review of the week, talking about Man U, Man City, Liverpool, Chelsea, etc... not a hint of red-tinted glasses.

In a very short space of time I've gone from not being able to stand him, to having huge respect for him.

Phil's done some punditry for Five Live already. Pretty good.
