Perhaps the Murdochs want a slice of the health market. Just don't get ill!

Dune will be doing his nut today, unable to get on here and spout his reactionary views!

Terrible appointment. Like many, was surprised to see Hunt retain his old job. Reading between the lines, sounds like they want an implementor for their "carve up the NHS for private profit" plan. Hunt's comparative lack of scruples (source: rattlesnake) makes him the ideal appointment for the Conservatives' plan, not so great for anyone who has a "health".

Bandit government.

Just another spiv in a government full of spivs.

Or just plain incompetents? Hunt believes in the magic of homeopathy for example, and Grant Schapps internet company and hilarious recession guidebook are both tragic and inane.

Seems an odd choice to me. Lansley needed replacing, but Hunt seems spectacularly ill equipped for such a demanding post.

old news. we knew it was happening back in june, but the whole reshuffle got delayed as hunt was heavily involved in the olympics, and was in a little bit of bother with the murdochs at the time

Quite a significant shift to right with many of these appointments it seems, to facilitate a 'growth at any cost' policy IMO... the new Environment Minister for example, looks like someone who'll quite happily support a third Heathrow runway and continue the relaxation of planning laws.

some of the more hardline and controversial elements of the health and social care bill might get softened a bit in implementation

Based on Hunt's views on the NHS as recently as 2009, I very much doubt it TBH.

yes

Cheers, which hospital/trust?

What do you reckon the effect of the changes will be on hospitals - rather than GP's, which is all the media seems to want to talk about?

Overall it looks pretty clear that Cameron and Osborne have removed ministers who may oppose their own economic and/or political programmes.

Obviously, removal of Justine Greening at Transport makes it easier to get Heathrow expansion back on the agenda for debate.

In my own field, most of the energy generation companies are displeased with the removal of Charles Hendry as energy minister as he was doing a balanced job with nuke, coal, gas and wind and had gained respect and trust. His replacement, John Hayes, is also on the record as being sceptical of renewable energy sources, especially wind turbines - hence likely to be a Treasury place man to counter the LD Sec of State Ed Davey as well as pleasing Tory shire MPs.

They're building a core of yes men to push their plans through. There has never been any swerving from this course. I was getting offers for work for private sector companies taking over NHS services for months before anything was official.

The basic plan, with pretty much everything, is to feck public institutions up and send the private sector into rescue, thus lining the pockets of as many pals and future employers as possible.

and this effects us how..?

If he starts diverting more NHS cash into homeopathy (God help us, he actually believes that it works  ), it potentially could affect anyone who doesn't get a medicine or treatment that's been proved to work because there isn't the money for it.
