SO16_Saint Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 (edited) @aap3saints are putting together the all time Saints XI as voted for by their Twitter followers. Goalkeeper was chosen as being Antti Niemi yesterday. Today is Left Back. Thought it may be interesting to some... a1ex2001 Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 Day one - and they already have it wrong. It's all subjective and saints all time keeper is particularly difficult as there are so many outstanding candidates it could have been any of five and Neimi would always be right up there he was absolutely out of the top draw. Minty Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 Especially as twitter users are likely to be predominantly of a younger age group...

jawillwill Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 What a bloody ridiculous way of doing it. They should employ the help of St Landrew(?) and start by picking the Saints All-time B-team like we did on here a few years ago. That was by far the most logical way of doing this accurately. PhilippineSaint Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 ??? Shilton of course

Shilts by far in my view but I expect the followers reflect a younger sample than yours truly!

Guest flickjax Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 Flowers for me, then Shilton and then Niemi Left Back Mark Dennis, if defenders were allowed to tackle again
aintforever Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 Shilton was miles better than Neimi. These polls are always scewed in favour of recent players, no doubt Lambert is better than Shearer and Lallana better than Channon because some SWF geek has actually seen them play. JPTCount Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 i'd have to agree with niemi, he was an epic keeper for us, brilliant reaction saves, and he could play football too, he wasn't just in goal coz he couldn't play outfield. the goal he set up at a corner against fulham(?) with the header back across goal, and i seem to remember him scooping the ball over a striker trying to close him down, but its probably to good to be true... i can only think of three decent left backs in my lifetime, benalli, bridge & bale
ant Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 Barely anybody is voting, this would be pathetically easy to rig.
Lord Duckhunter Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 This is the same as those greatest albums or greatest artists things then run all the time. Great people get lost in the mists of time and old farts who would vote for them are either dead, puddled, cant be bothered or are unable to understand how to vote. The Kraken Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 I've previously done a "best Saints XI of players of my lifetime", ie players that I can actually remember seeing for Saints (pretty much 82 or 83 onwards). It is: Peter Shilton Jason Dodd - Michael Svensson - Mark Wright - Mark Dennis Jimmy Case - Steve Williams Rod Wallace - Matt Le Tissier - Danny Wallace Alan Shearer

cambsaint Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 Shilton was universally regarded as one of the two best goalies in the world when he played for us. None of our other keepers have ever come near. As opposing forwards used to think-I've beaten the rest, now I've got Shilton to beat, and not many did, he was so imposing.
