Lighthouse Posted 3 September, 2012 Share Posted 3 September, 2012 On paper weaker than the two Manc clubs but I still don't see us getting anything from them. Will be interesting to see how our new signings fit into the team. I'd go with a team of Davis Clyne - Yoshida - Hooiveld - Fox (if fit) Davis - Morgan - JWP Puncheon - Lambert - Lallana Subs: Gazza, Fonte, Chaplow, Ramirez, Yukka, J Rod, Lee What a bench that is BTW. Suhari Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 This could be a really good game. If we play as well as we can do then it should be great entertainment. One for the loss column I reckon, but a chance for Saints to impress people and continue up the learning curve. 2-4 loss in a cracking match. Saint Fan CaM Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 3-1 Arse. They will be too much for us. They play in a style that is similar to ours - keep ball. But with a team that probably averages 10% better than ours and can turn on pace into channels (something we don't seem capable of). If Ramirez is available for selection and fit, does anyone really think he will sit on the bench for 75 minutes against Arse? I don't believe NC will want to see £12m sat on the bench - do you? I would hope for... Mayuka Rodrigues (Lambo) Ramirez (Chappers) Lallana Morgan Davis Fox (if fit) Jos Fonte (Yoshi) Clyne .............. Davis Lambert (JRod), Yoshi (Fonte) and Chappers (Mayuka) on as subs to see out the game. Easy eh?!

saints_is_the_south Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 Midfield is the key battle in this game IMO. If we can win it like we did v United up until Scholes came on then we have a chance of getting something. We've obviously got goals in our team, and they have in theirs. Entertaining game in store, heart is predicting a thrilling 3-3 draw, head says 3-1 or 3-2 Arsenal.

He's not a better defender on any evidence I've seen so far, he was bloody rubbish at defending at Stevenage, only decent going forward with the ball. Though as noted above, he was ill the following day. Though it didn't stop him making one Balesque driving run. The9 Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 (edited) I've given up trying to predict our starting line-up, Lambert has his limitations but evidently can still score goals (and even his favourite far post header) if we win possession in the opposition's half when we have numbers forward (viz Man U) which is something I wasn't expecting us to have as a threat. So with that in mind, it depends entirely on whether Adkins wants to use Ramirez as a foil to Lambert's big man stuff to attack Arsenal with a varied attack, or whether we are able to get the coaching in place to enable the team to benefit from Mayuka's obvious pace. I suspect we won't be ready to unleash Mayuka yet, just us Lee and Sharp's penetrating runs were ignored in the second half of last season. We don't play many through balls, though that's at least partially due to that not being one of Lambert's strengths. So for now, Lambert is the safer option. The9 Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 so ur evidence that he's better is he might have been affected by a mysterious illness in his only first team start? That was not the first team by any stretch of the imagination, but he looked about as comfortable at left back as Richardson did at CB, which was "not very". Lots of hoofing, some terrible decision making (letting the ball bounce, played at least one dubious backpass and put Seaborne under pressure as well) and generally much better attacking than defending, against a League One side who signed two strikers the following week. Saint Charlie Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 As proven vs Utd the best chance we have to is be offensive and cause their suspect defence some problems. As soon as we camp in our own half we are screwed.

Bearsy Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 It's amazing how quickly the eye returns to it's old habits of looking at the bottom of the table first. As long as the table come the end of the year looks much better, then I suppose thats all the matters And if I remember correctly, this place was full of people saying that we still have the best sides in the division to play, we're only an injury or two away from the wheels coming off, should have done better in the transfer market, it won't last etc etc....... just shows that a lot of **** spouted off on here is often not close to the truth at all, despite how highly some rate their own opinions....quite comforting actually : )

SuperMikey Posted 4 September, 2012 Share Posted 4 September, 2012 How the hell could you drop punch after the other day? He did play very well, but so did everyone else in our midfield. Lallana was great out wide and the trio of Davis, Schneiderlin and JWP in the middle was also very good. Ramirez will start. Punch may feel aggrieved but he's not guaranteed a place. I'm more worried about dropping Lee from the bench than dropping Punch from the Starting XI.
