Our previous 27 years top level records

I wonder if someone, namely David from Sweden or another who keeps all the club records would be so kind and post the first 10 results from our 27 years in top flight. I recall that most years we were pretty poor getting off th mark, but having the records for all to ponder over might put some prospective into how our first season back in the Premier League might pan out.

Many thanks in advance to whoever fulfills my request.

I certainly recall us having poor starts almost as the rule rather than the exception. Perhaps some have selective memories and have grown unused to us having faltering starts like this. But personally I'm much happier getting the top teams out of the way earlier like this. Although there was disappointment at losing to Wigan, the TV pundits generally have been impressed with how we have played both Manc teams and surmise that if we continue to play as well as we did against them, we'll have few worries about survival.

A bit of a run against the lesser lights in the division and we'll soon start climbing the table and our chances of doing that will be increased once we have the full squad available.

2002-03.....3-4-3.........13........12 first win game 5..........8----Beattie 23 goals (all in space of only 26 games)

------after which Strachan left and the " managerial carousel" began. But things went form bad to worse and Saints were finally relegated in 2005.

unfortunately, my info is very dependent on In that Number, and a poor memory and so I only have accurate stats. to 2003.

I always say that stats. tell us something, but as we have had umpteen managers and a hundred plus players in this time, it's hard to blame either of those groups.

However, the stats do show that we are notoriously poor starters - even in seasons when we eventually did well. We've had good ...and sometimes downright terrible squads - but if I had to give a typically English excuse I might blame... .the weather. If you think I'm joking...you can see from the lists that we rarely win much before game 4-5 and I can't remember how many times I've heard that a

home game played on a blazing hot day with 25 deg C. in mid August ...made for a poor result in exhausting conditions. Don't take me too seriously ...but I've short of other ideas.

David in Sweden.

What you can predict is that if we have 10 points by October we stand a fair chance of staying above the "drop zone 2 .and that (historically at least) we tend to play better after New Year than before...

I have to say a huge thank you to each and everyone for these statistics of our opening season results. It does give our current dilemma some prospective and few previous seasons saw so much money spent on improving our squad. Yet the Premier League standards have moved on and rarely was the standards higher than they are at present. It's not the end all but the fact we didn't address the goalkeeping position and defense does leave me concerned more than in the past.
