Saint Bones Posted 3 September, 2012 Share Posted 3 September, 2012 (edited) Thats only 25K GBP per week. Take into account football standard and proximity to Mama and her home-made pasta sauce, we shoud get him for 18-20K. But you forget the sunny conditions and famous beaches Ha-ha... I guess that was refreshing to hear from Ramirez to say he is coming here for the money.... slightly adjusted for the 'official' interview Just cant see a 37 year old fitting into Saints current game plans... talented still, no doubt. pingwing Posted 3 September, 2012 Share Posted 3 September, 2012 What would you call that formation ? Funnel Formation ? Concorde Formation ? Upside-Down Rampant Rabbit Formation ? I believe it to be referred to as the premature ejaculation formation, full of all out potential, could score 8-9 goals with no one knowing what to do in the face of it, but let down by a complete lack of a follow through for the long game, leaving everyone involved with an all round feeling of disappointment and no motivation to work on the basics once we concede the 11th goal. westmidlandsaint Posted 3 September, 2012 Share Posted 3 September, 2012 I know that saints are going for a youthful recruitment policy but I honestly don't think this is the kind of deal that could be turned down if there was a real chance of it happening. This guy has been there and pretty much done everything, the amount that are current crop of players like lallana, Ramirez, jrod ET all could learn from him is incredible. The signing of Ramirez would have made a lot of people on the continent notice us a little more, the signing of del piero would only enhance this and help us attract players to take us to the next level. All in my opinion of course.

Well, I can see that issue, it is sort of relevant though. As much as I can understand Piero if he still has the talent in his locker and fitness to carry it off, plus his undoubted experience etc surely to christ we should be looking for defensive options, even though now with the window shut its more or less impossible

As much as I can understand Piero if he still has the talent in his locker and fitness to carry it off, plus his undoubted experience etc surely to christ we should be looking for defensive options, even though now with the window shut its more or less impossible I don't see why the two are related though. If it's an either or scenario, then fine but but I think if the options to strengthen the defence are there then we will. We obviously had defensive targets in mind which we didn't get for whatever reason. We'll probably re-visit in January like we did with the striker situation last season. Ultimately, if a player like DP wants to join us why should we have a problem with it just beacuse we are considered to be defensively frail? Smirking_Saint Posted 3 September, 2012 Share Posted 3 September, 2012 No not at all, abd to be honest if anyone believes you only look at a sungle player or do one single deal at a time in football than you are clueless DP would be a decent signing, and if a defensive option was available I feel we would look at it. Id be very surprised if we are not already looking at potential targets in Jan in case we decide they are required

(Even RvP wasn't such a hot shot when he first went to Arsenal...) but we need a few older heads around to encourage and advise..The likes of Del Piero wouldn't be on a four year contract, but 12 months playing alongside him could be the making of our younger talents.. ......." old heads, young legs ...." I've lost count to be fair and can't be arsicled to find out, but surely there can't be too many spaces left in the squad for over 21year old players?!? SNSUN Posted 3 September, 2012 Share Posted 3 September, 2012 With our current crop of attacking signings, I can't help but think this would be a strange signing. It'd boost our media exposure when, on a personal level, I'd rather we stayed under the radar this season, he's knocking on, and his presence in the squad would mean others more concerned about their place. (Rodriguez of course, although perhaps it's make them play harder.) I don't doubt his ability, one of, if not the, best Italian of his generation, and seeing Scholes playing yesterday makes me think he could hack it, but I just think it's a bit odd. Drogba - now there's the best Bosman out there.

mulletsaint Posted 3 September, 2012 Share Posted 3 September, 2012 (edited) Doing my best to ignore all the crap, I'm not sure this is a good idea. Yeah I know his experience could help but how the feck are we going to fit him into the side? To my mind once we have everyone available we'd probably have to play a 4-2-3-1. It's either that or risk going back to square pegs in round holes to accommodate all our best players or leave some of them out. Davis Clyne - Yoshida - Hooiveld - Fox Schneiderlin - JWP/Davis Puncheon - Ramirez - Lallana Lambert This still means JWP could miss out, so could Cork, Lee, JRod and Mayuka. It's good to have the strength in depth but how much depth do we need in those positions? Personally of the frees that I'm aware of the only one I'd take would be Gordon. For instance, your team there would have backups like this: Gazza Richardson - Fonte - Seabourne/Stephens - Shaw Cork/Chambers - Chaplow/Davis Guly/Lee/De Ridder - ADP/Lallana - Lee/Mayuka Jrod/Lee/Mayuka So, lots of options, although fewer in defence.
