We went down with Redknapp in the team but I can remember him controlling the home game vs Liverpool and running the show that day.

Hey that's some memory! So he had one good game.....The rest were abject !

Maybe he's an honourable man who feels he has given Sydney already too much of a commitment.

Alpine, I've never accussed you of trolling before....but this is just too absurd....:-)

Just when I thought that us as Saints fans were a little desperate at times, watching the Liverpool fans reactions to the news one Twitter is eye-opening!?

Someone who could have been a valuable squad player here, is their idea of a saviour!?

I think we can forget about this now, was nice while the dream lasted.

It wasn't a nice dream for some, they would rather Danny Gabbion instead!

But then again.....

Tancredi Palmeri@tancredipalmeri

Sydney ceo after meeting w Del Piero:"Nothing signed yet,it's a work in progress.Liverpool is a big club, but Australia is a great country"

Another of these long distance sagas, but one thing we know for sure .....if Saints were to land him.....it'd show that we have real pulling power....

(how many of the other interested clubs have an Italian chairman ?)

Should I be taking the lack of Ramirez on the OS squad and the outright refusal to commit his shirt number to any kind of statement, only showing a GASTON 10 shirt in his signing picture, as some kind of bet-hedging in case Del Piero wants 10..? After all, 11 is free too...

To answer my own question, no I shouldn't. We have no free slots in our 25-man squad and can't add any free agents without cancelling someone else's contract.

I thought 22 plus 9 under 22s. That means three spares.

A source close to Del Piero told talkSPORT: "Del Piero originally ruled out a move to the Premier League as only Southampton were interested and he didn’t want to jump from Juventus to the Saints.

"Then Sydney FC came in and started discussing a deal with him as Del Piero wanted a new challenge outside of top-level football.

"At the last minute Liverpool came in and said 'don’t sign a deal yet as we are interested'.

So he didn't want to come to the PL becuase saints was a big drop from Juve but he would play for Sydney becuase it wasn't top flight football????? weird

I thought that too. But if he wanted a challenge outside of top-level football, he could always have gone to English football's greatest sleeping giant - the Skates.

But surely Liverpool would be too much of a draw for him.

Of course it will. I'd be shocked if he would pick us over Liverpool....even more so if he considered playing football for Sydney more attractive than playing in the PL for us.

I could see why he would go to sydney

A major world city that would offer a lifestyle Southampton and Liverpool could never match.

Zero pressure and a decent wage

He has nothing to prove in football as he has literally won the lot so a year or so living in Sydney must seem so appealing

I can understand this. However I'm sure he's be able to make the step up.

Wasn't there supposed to be a presser this morning to announce ADP signing up to the Aussie Dollar?
This morning our time or this morning Aussie time?

I think Cortese's hard on may now be subsiding and he can now put his boyhood panini stickers back in the draw.

I've already pointed out that Cortese is 6 years older than ADP. The Panini stickers are far more likely to belong to Cortese's son if he has one.

Absolutely. And a role in driving the sport in a key growth territory. A genuinely interesting challenge. A chance be part of something still new and growing. A new life in a new land. Far more interesting than being AN Other big name player at the arse end of a big league.

Southampton is not centre of the universe. Some people just don't get it.

I can see how those comments might apply to the US and China but Australia? You can't be serious.

Clubs are going bankrupt in Australia.

If he goes there I think it's a lifestyle choice for him and his family.

This morning our time, morning Aussie time in Turin Italy would not be the most ideal unveiling :)
I must be missing your point. Why would the aussies want to unveil their new signing in a press conference in the middle of the night?

There is currently 9 hours difference between London and Sydney, 8 hours between Turin and Sydney. 11am in Turin = 7pm in Sydney.

Comprend?? ;)

Not really. Do you mean "comprehend" or the french verb - like "vous comprenez"?

Well, its up to him, isnt it. Though not particularly impressed by the idea of him looking down on us like that.

Its clearly not just about the football anymore. Otherwise he would have been interested in helping establish us a PL force and would have had another clubs fans worship him for years to come.

Going to Liverpool is just money for old rope; we have more chance of winning something than them.

Yes, I do.

They are a bunch of mediocre stroppy prima-donnas coached by a bloke who has committed seppuku on his managerial career, by taking over that bunch of dysfunctional tw*ts, and they are folllowed by the biggest bunch of whinging bellends on Gods Earth; still stuck in the 80s like the blue-rinse brigade are still stuck in WW2 and the days of the British Empire, or even worse, still stuck in the 60s with memories of Gerry and the Pacemakers.

So you think Liverpool`s defence is worse than ours then?
