He's not a CB, or a LB - granted, but he's an experienced head which is what we lack. To be able to throw someone like on the pitch at the end of a game would be a great option, he'd settle everyone down. He's played at the top level all his life, he's played at world cups, euro's - the lot. He will benefit this squad massively in terms of experience and I'd be chuffed if we can get someone like him in.

Don't expect him to score many, or to play a great deal - but expect him to be used as an option to calm everyone down with his experience in the closing stages of games. There's a hell of a lot good with our squad, let's not start think we're full of dross because we're not. We've got so much young talent that will only get better, and to have someone like him around the place is only going to accelerate their progression.

I think we'd play him at the tip of the midfield 3 rather than up front.

Agreed, would he be a good signing ? On reduced wages I can see it, I dont know how fit he is atm.

Not exactly what we need AFAIK but could help the youngsters

Have we sneaked Burley in the back door ?

Look at it in the bigger picture alps. I'm also convinced he will join with a view to a backroom role at the club, having someone like that potentially working in a similar role to Jaidi will only help us in the future. It's potentially a move for now and for the future. I can see the clubs motives.

The 37-year-old appeared to be joining Australian side FC Sydney last week, but that deal has yet to be formalised.

Their Chairman appears to think it's a done deal

Italian football expert James Horncastle: "Sydney FC chairman Scott Barlow has confirmed the signing of Alessandro Del Piero to the Sydney Morning Herald: 'This is huge for Sydney FC, huge for the A-League and huge for Australian football. We feel honoured that Alessandro has decided to play for Sydney FC and we share his excitement that a move to Sydney FC will create a lasting legacy for football in this country.'"

One last hurrah in the English Premier League, or going to play with the kangaroos.

It cant even be about money....

Where are we going to play all these forwards

In our revolutionary 1-2-2-2-4 formation, Lambert, Del Piero, Rodriguez and Lee packing out their box with Lallana and Gaston tracking back either wings. Leaves Steven and Morg to mess about in the middle sit in front of the defence and pass into the big space. Then we have Jos and the new guy able to go wide with morg tacking back between them as a back 3. Super Kelvin will be bitten by a radioactive spider and use his new super powers to dominate the goal line.

Another two words - Paul Scholes

Exactly the thought that crossed my mind. And Fergie was fulsome in his praise for the job that he did yesterday, in calming things down and putting in some great balls.

That must be an old quote as they've since come out and said they may have jumped the gun and Del Piero's manager has also said the same. He's still considering it.

G_S suffers humour bypass. Well, he is in the dourest city on the planet.

Played 23 times for the team that won Serie A last season which suggests he still has something about him.

Model professional from what I've read about him too which can only help the younger players, and would be a great PR stunt to.

15k a week was said somewhere on these forums, not over the top by any means.

According to the Aussie papers here they have offered him 2 million ( I presume A$ ) to play.

Sadly the A-League has had a few "past" players join - most ended up being money grabbers with no heart ( Dwight York excemtped - he was awesome ) = Please don't look up Brian Deane....

Alessandro Del Piero later this week will decide their future. To write this morning's la Gazzetta dello Sport, which emphasizes how the teams interested in the former Juventus captain is currently 3: Sydney Fc, which offered a two-year by 2 million per season, the Southampton who came to 1 million for two years more bonuses, and Sion, with the same offer of English. Del Piero is tempted by the adventure in the Premier League, but the Australians in the next few hours could raise.

Thats only 25K GBP per week.

Take into account football standard and proximity to Mama and her home-made pasta sauce, we shoud get him for 18-20K.

He's all over nearly thread on the forum today. Should have been expected. 1 day post defeat after a couple of defensive errors. This is prime Alpine time.

I just wonder why he feels that his opinions are more valid and important than others to the extent that he has to repeat the same thing time after time on thread after thread.

Well, log-off if you dont like it .

So other users should not bother coming on here then just so you can continue to pollute the forum with opinions which you've already laboured to death?

But its a fair bit less than Sydney. We might need to up that by a couple of K per week.

Depends on his personal motivation at this stage of his career, play for bigger bucks (even though I can't imagine he is needing the cash - then again I thought that about Drogba) or play in the bigger spotlight.
