benjii Posted 3 September, 2012 Share Posted 3 September, 2012 He's never going to be a regular Prem starter but I can't understand why he isn't making the bench at the moment. He would've been a perfect sub yesterday IMO.
Golden Balls Posted 3 September, 2012 Share Posted 3 September, 2012 Yep. Could have done with him or Hammond on when we were 2-1 up.
Saint Charlie Posted 3 September, 2012 Share Posted 3 September, 2012 Cork would have come on if on the bench, sure he will be back soon.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 3 September, 2012 Share Posted 3 September, 2012 Said this on the match thread before kick-off. If we are leading with 10/15 to go the best man to come on is Chaplow.........NEVER/EVER Guly!
Window Cleaner Posted 3 September, 2012 Share Posted 3 September, 2012 (edited) Wasn't there a rumour going round that Chaplow had turned down a loan move to Palace? If there's any truth in that he may well be in the dog house with the powers that be at SFC. Mind you if everyone either in the old DH or loaned out already it won't make much sense when we get injuries and suspensions. Still with Cork to come back and Lallana having been tried in a CM role already then I guess we feel we have that covered without Chaplow and are probably looking to loan him out. S-Clarke Posted 3 September, 2012 Share Posted 3 September, 2012 Totally agree, we needed fresh energy in the midfield once Scholes came on. Would have been a good option. Weird subs all in all y/day.
pingwing Posted 3 September, 2012 Share Posted 3 September, 2012 Hate to say it but he is the most likely player to get sent off. He isn't a particularly good player on the ball and more than likely would have just taken us down to 10 men very quickly after trying to keep up with paul scholes
Dig Dig Posted 3 September, 2012 Share Posted 3 September, 2012 Easy to say now that Chaplow would have come off the bench and made a positive difference yesterday but he could just as easily played right into Utd hands with his poor touch and passing. He's not playing because he isn't is very good player at this level.

Saint Garrett Posted 3 September, 2012 Share Posted 3 September, 2012 He would have given us a bit of bite towards the end when the midfield was tiring.

Mayuka, Lee, Rodriguez, Guly but no regular midfielders like Hammond or Chaplow.

With Cork to come back and Ramirez to fit in, I can see 2 of JWP, Cork and Davis being midfield options on the bench so should have more balance soon. I can see the rationale behind calling for Chaplow from an energy perspective but he can't be trusted in the middle...to rash and not enough composure. I know some people are saying that we was good against Utd last time in the cup but that was 2 years ago and the Utd side wasn't anyway near as strong as yesterday. SuperMikey Posted 3 September, 2012 Share Posted 3 September, 2012 I too thought that Chappers would have been the perfect player to come off the bench yesterday. Schneiderlin was really effective in winning the ball from the Man Utd midfield by pressing and getting in their faces - that's what Chaplow does very well. I would've gone 4141 with my subs: ----------------KELV----------- CLYNE---JOSE---JOS---FOX -------------MORGAN-------- ---CHAPPY---JWP---DAVIS- -------------MAYUKA--------- -----------------JAY-------------

Chaplow did go through a peroid of indiscpline the end of our last league one season beginning of our champ season but he seemed to get over that last season. Cork would have been my choice of sub yesterday but failing that Chaplow or even Hammond would have been better than taking off Lambert.
red&white56 Posted 3 September, 2012 Share Posted 3 September, 2012 Ok hindsight is always 20 : 20. However bringing on Chaplow, with instructions to help break up the work of Paul scholes (who had loads of time on the ball yesterday), might have helped us get a result yesterday. He may not have the skill level to be in the starting eleven, but he has the energy to affect a game for 15 - 20 mins, which is what we needed yesterday. Agreed, Chaplow could have tracked Scholes and given how Giggs turned the FA Cup game you'd have expected Nigel to have man marked whichever Golden Oldie Fergie brought on. No point having an army of analysts on laptops if one them won't intervene when the manager is about to mess it up. Cork would have been even better but alas injured. Cork might struggle to get in the first XI if Morgan, Lallana and Punch keep that level of form up though. Why the feck Nigel brough on Guly I have no idea and true to form, he stood off the cross for their second with his hands behind his back. I wouldn't imagine Ramirez will be any better defensively than Guly but at least he should create more. I'm grateful for what Guly did in L1 and NPC but he added nothing yesterday and was awful against Wigan as well.
Giordano Posted 3 September, 2012 Share Posted 3 September, 2012 Agree, Chaplow, Cork or Hammond coming on would have probably meant we got a point from that match. But we did'nt. Lesson learned. One is on loan one is injured and one didnt make the squad. Chaplow in particular would have given a 15 minutes of doggies performance that would have stopped Scholes doing whatever he liked on the ball. Or he might have got nowhere near Scholes like most midfielders in the prem, got caught in possesion, give free kicks away and generally do nothing but invite more pressure from Utd. Just saying.
