Out of contract players.

Del Perio is clearly one that we've made approaches to. I think his experience could add a hell of a lot to our young side.

Zambrotta is another decent shout.

Fabio Grosso? World cup winner 6 years ago, not sure what he's been like since though - but he was outstanding in 06..!

list is out of date though, I know that Drenthe signed somewhere or other a while back, maybe last week.

Maybe some good footballers on there though, their demands may be difficult to accomodate if they're getting more for being unemployed than clubs re prepared to offer. A problem that seems to have spread through civilised society I'm afraid.

The CB, LB and possibly GK should have been sorted a long time ago, it is scandalous that it was not.

However, this is not a time for the club to contemplate its navel and we have to do our best with what is avaialble in loan and Non contracted players.

We also have to be decisive, which we were not over much of the summer and I mentioned on many occasions !

I dont think saints can sign any FAs. You cannot sign FAs if you have 25 over 21s at the club (it doesnt matter if they are named in the 25 or not) and I think that may include those out on loan.

I've mentioned this a couple of time but got ignored. I'm pretty sure the registration window for PL clubs has closed? We can obviously sign as many free agents as we want, but I'm pretty sure they won't be able to play in the league? I think the only exception are emergency keepers?

MLG?

There is still a deadline to meet for the 25 man squad submission though I believe? This week sometime?

http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/8858634.stm

Clubs register a squad of up to 25 players, which must include at least eight 'home-grown' players, at the end of each transfer window.

Changes can be made only during transfer windows, although in exceptional circumstances (eg goalkeeping injury crisis) moves could be allowed.

We're not in the Football league anymore, guys?

I thought so too after looking on wikipedia. Yesterday it said he signed with Besiktas, but there was no citation on there. After having a browse around I found nothing official on him signing for any club.

Mikael Silvestre. Is he still available?

Mikaël Samy Silvestre (born 9 August 1977) is a French international footballer. He plays as defender and last played for Werder Bremen of the Bundesliga. He has also played for the French national team. Silvestre is adept as both a centre-back and a left-back, though he has stated that he prefers playing in the centre.[4]

anyone can be signed at any time ....IF ......they are out of contract.

Otherwise it's clearly in contravention to the EU " restriction of work" laws.

Page 152:

5. Changes to a Squad List may be made:

5.1 during the period of a Transfer Window; or

5.2 at other times only with the permission of the Board.

Like I said, nothing stopping you signing anyone, but you'd have to ask permission to register them as per point 5.2?

Am still confused about this free agent thing (I've finally got it locked in my mind that loans aren't possible until the window reopens in January)

What would determine whether a free agent can be added to the squad? (i.e. what wld determine the "permission of the board"?)

Are we saying that, say, Michael Owen should really have signed for a Premiership club before Friday and may now be in limbo until January?

That's my interpretation, but I guess 5.2 allows a loophole to anyone who asks nicely to allow for a player to be registered outside of the transfer window.

That may be true, but that law doesn't state they must legally be allowed to be added to our 25-man squad outside of the window allowing changes. It's possible with specific permission, but not a definite.
