Wade Garrett Posted 2 September, 2012 Posted 2 September, 2012 (edited) Zambrotta has been mentioned, so has Michael Owen. I'll throw in Artur Boruc. Anyone else? Nigel alluded that there might still be deals in the pipeline in a throwaway remark on Friday. Edited 2 September, 2012 by Wade Garrett
Webby Posted 2 September, 2012 Posted 2 September, 2012 Paul Robinson ex Bolton. I only mention cos he's a left back/centre back.
Stepgar Posted 2 September, 2012 Posted 2 September, 2012 I think there is a list where you can look at all available frees. Not sure where though.
S-Clarke Posted 2 September, 2012 Posted 2 September, 2012 Del Perio is clearly one that we've made approaches to. I think his experience could add a hell of a lot to our young side. Zambrotta is another decent shout. Fabio Grosso? World cup winner 6 years ago, not sure what he's been like since though - but he was outstanding in 06..!
LeBenali Posted 2 September, 2012 Posted 2 September, 2012 I've mentioned him on here before, but Danny Gabbidon? He is by no means a world beater but as a 4th choice centre back he'd do a job, I'd certainly have more confidence in him than Seaborne/Richardson/Stephens at CB.
Super_Saint Posted 2 September, 2012 Posted 2 September, 2012 Heres a list of free agents. http://www.footballtransferleague.co.uk/football_club.aspx?football_club=Unattached
Webby Posted 2 September, 2012 Posted 2 September, 2012 And here http://www.thepfa.com/transferlist/listedplayers/sortbydate/lb/outofcontract/1/
Wade Garrett Posted 2 September, 2012 Author Posted 2 September, 2012 Zambrotta and Boruc may improve our defence.
Thedelldays Posted 2 September, 2012 Posted 2 September, 2012 I think i would cry if we sign any more forwards
Saint Fan CaM Posted 2 September, 2012 Posted 2 September, 2012 I think i would cry if we sign any more forwards This!
Thedelldays Posted 2 September, 2012 Posted 2 September, 2012 This! Just seem ridiculous. We have too many forwards. Mayuka and ranirez this window Oh and Rodriguez
Flyer Posted 2 September, 2012 Posted 2 September, 2012 I dont think saints can sign any FAs. You cannot sign FAs if you have 25 over 21s at the club (it doesnt matter if they are named in the 25 or not) and I think that may include those out on loan.
Shanghai Saint Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 Polish International Left-back Sebastian Boenisch would be a good start.
skintsaint Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 you have to ask yourself why these players are still going for free at this stage of the season.
alpine_saint Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 Paul Scharner? You are f**king joking. That will be the dressing room spirit straight out of the window. This is the pr*ck that has fallen out with every new Austrian national team manager over the past 6 or 7 years (they've had a few) that dared to give him another chance
EBS1980 Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 Swansea have said they will have to use the bosman to get a new left back after Talyor was ruled out for quite a while at weekend. Wil be interesting to see who they get.
Window Cleaner Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 list is out of date though, I know that Drenthe signed somewhere or other a while back, maybe last week. Maybe some good footballers on there though, their demands may be difficult to accomodate if they're getting more for being unemployed than clubs re prepared to offer. A problem that seems to have spread through civilised society I'm afraid.
Dalek2003 Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 The CB, LB and possibly GK should have been sorted a long time ago, it is scandalous that it was not. However, this is not a time for the club to contemplate its navel and we have to do our best with what is avaialble in loan and Non contracted players. We also have to be decisive, which we were not over much of the summer and I mentioned on many occasions !
Saint Garrett Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 How do people still think that we can get players in on loan!? THIS IS NOT AVAILABLE TO PREMIERSHIP CLUBS !!
Glasgow_Saint Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 How do people still think that we can get players in on loan!? THIS IS NOT AVAILABLE TO PREMIERSHIP CLUBS !! who is suggesting a loan?

You cannot sign FAs if you have 25 over 21s at the club (it doesnt matter if they are named in the 25 or not) and I think that may include those out on loan. I've mentioned this a couple of time but got ignored. I'm pretty sure the registration window for PL clubs has closed? We can obviously sign as many free agents as we want, but I'm pretty sure they won't be able to play in the league? I think the only exception are emergency keepers? MLG?
Webby Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 How do people still think that we can get players in on loan!? THIS IS NOT AVAILABLE TO PREMIERSHIP CLUBS !! We're talking about out of contract players here, no transfer involved, no loan.

Saint Charlie Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 You can sign a free agent. Owen is going to join someone this week. Best shouts on the thread are Boruc and Grosso.
Saint Garrett Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 How old is Grosso now? Must be getting on a bit.
Greenridge Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 You can sign a free agent. Owen is going to join someone this week. Best shouts on the thread are Boruc and Grosso. There is still a deadline to meet for the 25 man squad submission though I believe? This week sometime?
SuperSAINT Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 How old is Grosso now? Must be getting on a bit. 34, I think.
wireframebox Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 (edited) There is still a deadline to meet for the 25 man squad submission though I believe? This week sometime? http://news.bbc.co.uk/sport1/hi/football/eng_prem/8858634.stm Clubs register a squad of up to 25 players, which must include at least eight 'home-grown' players, at the end of each transfer window. Changes can be made only during transfer windows, although in exceptional circumstances (eg goalkeeping injury crisis) moves could be allowed. We're not in the Football league anymore, guys? Maybe some good footballers on there though, their demands may be difficult to accomodate if they're getting more for being unemployed than clubs re prepared to offer. After having a browse around I found nothing official on him signing for any club.
david in sweden Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 Paul Scharner? yes I saw him. too could just be surplus to requirements - that doesn't mean he's ****. we ought to have "an older head " at the back ..even Jos and Jose are both still under 30 !
david in sweden Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 We're talking about out of contract players here, no transfer involved, no loan. anyone can be signed at any time ....IF ......they are out of contract. Otherwise it's clearly in contravention to the EU " restriction of work" laws.
Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 This makes laugh. We all knew where the weak areas in the team were yet our manager ignored it and spent the majority of transfer budget on 1 player and brought in a bunch of players who are largely unknown.

Gingeletiss Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 Just get someone from Poopey to sort it out, they can get round any rules
Draino76 Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 Mikael Silvestre. Is he still available? Mikaël Samy Silvestre (born 9 August 1977) is a French international footballer. He plays as defender and last played for Werder Bremen of the Bundesliga. He has also played for the French national team. Silvestre is adept as both a centre-back and a left-back, though he has stated that he prefers playing in the centre.[4]

Changes to a Squad List may be made: 5.1 during the period of a Transfer Window; or 5.2 at other times only with the permission of the Board. Like I said, nothing stopping you signing anyone, but you'd have to ask permission to register them as per point 5.2? Edited 3 September, 2012 by wireframebox
positivepete Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 I was mentioned at the weekend that the squad list had to be in Tuesday, and that free agents could be added until then. I think it was mentioned in the context of a certain Mr M Owen. Maybe true, not sure, we shall see.
SaintBobby Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 Am still confused about this free agent thing (I've finally got it locked in my mind that loans aren't possible until the window reopens in January) What would determine whether a free agent can be added to the squad? (i.e. what wld determine the "permission of the board"?) Are we saying that, say, Michael Owen should really have signed for a Premiership club before Friday and may now be in limbo until January?

That's my interpretation, but I guess 5.2 allows a loophole to anyone who asks nicely to allow for a player to be registered outside of the transfer window.
Saint_clark Posted 3 September, 2012 Posted 3 September, 2012 Boruc is the only one that might be a good move for us, but I'd like to see Gazzaniga given a chance.
EBS1980 Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Craig Gordon and a few defenders please..
VectisSaint Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Craig Gordon and a few defenders please.. Clearly some people still don't get the rules about the squad and adding to it.
Wade Garrett Posted 15 September, 2012 Author Posted 15 September, 2012 Clearly some people still don't get the rules about the squad and adding to it. You can add out of contract players to your squad, but can't have a squad of more than 25 players. I think...
Thedelldays Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Clearly some people still don't get the rules about the squad and adding to it. Well can add to our squad if we have not registered 25 over age players Which I don't think we have.... Any free agents are good to go
St Chalet Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 (edited) How long would it take to get Roberto Carlos match-fit? Edited 15 September, 2012 by St Chalet
RobM Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 anyone can be signed at any time ....IF ......they are out of contract. Otherwise it's clearly in contravention to the EU " restriction of work" laws. That may be true, but that law doesn't state they must legally be allowed to be added to our 25-man squad outside of the window allowing changes. It's possible with specific permission, but not a definite.
VectisSaint Posted 15 September, 2012 Posted 15 September, 2012 Well can add to our squad if we have not registered 25 over age players Which I don't think we have.... Any free agents are good to go I know but the post said a keeper and a few defenders, so thats at least 4. We can sign arguably 2 or 3.
