Concerned about the left back position

Whilst I had thought we had done quite good business in the transfer window it appears that goal scoring does not appear to be a big problem with the players we have in this division. In hindsight I think it may have a been wiser to sign another keeper to apply pressure on KD and drop him if the mistakes continue. We certainly need another decent central defender but for me glaringly the left back spot needs attention. Danny Fox was never tight, always out of position and got caught out up field several times. I really do not think he is good enough. I really hope Shaw can step up to the plate although he did not fill me with confidence at Stevenage on Tuesday, he still has a lot to learn. I trust there are not too mamy left back free agents kicking about?

Shaw isn't up to it. Neither is Fox, sadly. The first 10 minutes especially he was very poor and it looked like we might get torn a new one down that side.

I don't think it'll be too long before Davis gets dropped. Ferguson showed how its done by dropping de Gea for an error last week; perhaps NA will do the same with us. Distribution was shocking today, and could have done better with the first United goal, it actually struck his leg which was planted on the ground.

Maybe we should give Ryan Dickson another go - he's still with us isn't he?

Fox seemed scared of the ball today, drifted in to the middle again time after time giving Man Urd all thevtimevabd space they needed out wide.

I also dont remember him putting one decent cross in!

Maybe instead of chasing Ramirez and Mayuka we should have signed a left back and a decent centreback or two!

Could we possibly play the wigan way? with perhaps 3 centre halfs and two attacking full backs?

Thought fox was all over the place today and most of our issues came down his side,

Really you're only becoming concerned now? some of us were saying at the end of last season that Fox wasn't up to it. I reckon Shaw will turn into a decent LB in time but to have him as back up at the moment seems mad. Can't understand why we didn't strengthen the defence more this summer.

He ain't a bad footballer Fox, he really ain't. It's just he stays so narrow! There you go Valencia sling a cross in if you like! I don't blame him for doing that cos there ain't a winger in the league who wouldn't mug him in a one-one-one. It's hard to know what to do about it really. Bit of a random idea, but anyone fancy Jack Cork at left back?

yeah, but he gets loads of assists apparently.

Well you will when you take corners and half the free kicks...sadly his main job is suppossed to be stopping the opposition from scoring not taking nice corners........

no. But I agree with your summary. The fella just doesn't have any pace and knows it so drops off to avoid being taken to the cleaners. Shame just about every prem side has a pacey right winger

aha. The guy is excellent on the ball, really classy, but he's just going to have to get tighter to wingers and risk being beaten every now and then. No point just waving crosses through as he is right now.
