So why make a deal to possibly bring him in permanently next season if the plan is to pay for it then with promotion money if he is generally considered not to be good enough for the next level ?

Thats plain gibberish.

If they dont get promoted this season, they wouldnt be able to afford the permanent deal.

If they do, so they can afford it, he aint good enough for the PL.

I understand what you're saying; but Billy Sharp is now a "victim" of his own success. He'll surely be on a decent wage, with bonuses topping it up etc. But he's deemed by us not good enough for Premier League (or at least not in our system). So this is a way for him to play. Forest may go up, and may decide he is actually one for them. But I think he's destined to be a Championship player on near Premier League wages; and we'll probably end up writing off the fee we paid for him. Which will have been worth it. And Forest have played the game well to get a top Championship striker with little risk.

Who says he isn't good enough for the PL? He's never played in it. We've clearly decided he isn't good enough for us in the PL but that doesn't mean SOD will also think he's not good enough if they get promoted. It's subjective.

Also, they would be able to afford the deal if they don't get promoted as they are backed by big money owners like we are.

Alpine how do you know they won't be able to afford a permanent deal

Jesus f**king wept......

Someone else made the point that they cant afford it now.

Which caused me to ask what will happen so that they will be able to afford it next year.

Which is when you stepped in with what you clearly thought was your cute smart-arse answer at that time - although it has now clearly backfired upon you and shown you to be a troll.

Why are you getting so worked up? It doesn't matter.

I didnt make the original assertion that they cant afford it !!!

Why cant some of you follow a conversation properly ?

And your comment about "not good enough for us in the PL, but may be OK for others in the PL" just smacks of arrogance, sorry.

No its not arrogance. It's a differing of opinions. Just like how you will rate one player but another person will rate him differently.

Surely the actual quality of a player and ability to perform to the required level in the PL is a fact, and not an issue of opinion ?

Also, if we sit here saying "Billy is not good enough for us in the PL, but he will be OK for Forest in the PL", arent we looking down on them ?

Sad to see both Deano and Billy go, but dare I say it, if the worst does happen this season and we get relegated, at least we'd still have these two on the books to steady the ship in the Championship, especially as the crown jewels would be pilfered. That said I believe we have the quality now to stay up and surprise people, in which case they can be sold next summer.

Good signing for Brighton, a few of their signings have caught the eye. That league would be hell to get out of this season...

Why do they hate him so much?

I think it was the way he left originally, and then the way he celebrated when he scored against them back in 2010 at the Withdean. Ran in front of their fans and they've wanted him dead since then!

Pretty much agree with everything you've said there - good post :)

This has to be one of your more stupid posts for sure.

So it's a fact whether or not a player is good enough for the premier league? Nothing changes? It has nothing to do with player confidence, fitness/injury, formations, positions, the manager etc etc etc??

If we were to sell Lambert, it would be a fact that we don't deem him good enough for the prem? Or maybe that he just doesn't fit into the new system, a bit like Billy?

Good Luck Deano a player (along with a few others) who will live long in the memerory as captain of a saints team that over three seasons gave saints fans back their pride

Very true - good luck Deano I'm sure you can win over that bunch of moaning idiots in Brighton.

Because after scoring against us at the Withdean in 2010, he ran the length of the South Stand giving it a big "f*ck you all" with various hand gestures included. He hadn't even had stick from the fans, although to be fair Harding had, so he could maybe have confused it as being for him, or just been sticking up for his mate.

Having said that, there's some selective quoting on here - NSC is split on his return with plenty (including me) happy to see him come back. We're overflowing with midfielders now so I'm not certain he's going to play every week, but he's good enough for a Championship team aiming for promotion, and Gus thinks he's good enough for us, so that's good enough for me.

(Yes, yes, we're failing to keep up etc etc...)

I am not surprised at him moving on but he could have done better than Brighton - I think that is where he comes from? He always did his best for us and played a big part in the promotions and I wish him well with my thanks for what he did for us.
