Dean Hammond - Brighton Season Long Loan Deal

Perfect move for him, did a good job when called upon last season (forgetting his sending off against Reading). Better than L1 when we were there and a good captain of the club.

He knows he wont get much of a look in this season so it will be good for him to take a first team role at CAFC (especially of dale stephens leaving for villa is true).

They surely have to snap their hand off for £2.5m. Silly money for Stephens. Deano is a far better player

slightly surprised at this, as Adkins made a point about how good it was for the youngsters having hard working, honest, professionals like Hammond butterfeild n chaplow in the squad. but if an offer comes in, we'd be stupid to turn it down.

Think we owe it to Deano that if an offer comes in from a club where he's likely to be a starter, then we give him the oppertunity to talk with them.

It's a good suit for him, he wouldnt have to move his family if he didnt want to, Charlton are on the up & he has the experience they'll need to get them out of that division.

As previously mentioned, if he appears for another club at SMS he should get a warm reception.

Good solid performer at championship level, lacks the pace for top flight imho

Can only assume the money is facilitating the move, completely agree they are probably going to be paid to upgrade a player leaving Villa looking very very stupid (can't imagine we are asking a massive amount for Deano).

Agree that there will be a tinge of sadness if it is the end of his Saints career but this is evolution and he'd go with my thanks and appreciation for more than doing the job he was brought in to do. Never gave less than 100% and can do that for Charlton too.

His house? Saints players and managers don't sell houses down here...they've arrived where they want to be and can come back when they retire...was probably bought with two promotion bonuses! :D

Not so sure it's such a good idea to let him go myself . Gets quite an unfair press at times and though not a 'flare' player you do need one or two of his type around and at least one in the team. Doesn't spray Hollywood balls around like some but is still as good as those we have that do IMO. Sad to leave, when you need to dig deep he's good to have around....

Trouble is that midfield "sweeper" role already sees Schneiderlin and Ward-prowse ahead of Hammond, with Davis able to fill in there as well.

would imagine he contributed greatly to the great team ethic and spirit that helped us to double promotions. Hope this can be retained when the likes of Dean depart today and later in the coming weeks on loan.

I have to say he is a far better player than people give him credit. I was concerned his lack of pace would have him found out in the Championship, but he had a great season and he replaced Cork and Morgan seamlessly when called on.
