Billy Sharp - Joins Notts Forest on Season Long Loan

Maybe he's not coping well away from family given what happened 10 months ago and wants to be nearer family. Couldn't blame him. Maybe its just pure footballing reasons. Either way good luck to the fella.

Isn't it simply - too many strikers

I agree though , good luck fella, we hardly knew you

I got the impression that his heart was never really down south...did not want to move to us first shout...then finally did after personal tragedy.....maybe he is happy to go back nearer home and to a good club with a good manager etc

was great for the short time he was here and scored so many vital goals in the run-in

At least we potentially make double on him in 6 months. We signed him for around 1.6m.

But I'm also a little sad, a great fella. A proper footballer who is hungry for goals. Will always remember his goals against the Skates!

But the reality is our sights are set very high, and he's not really going to be at the level we're aspiring to be at.

In a way Sharp epitomises Saints' position and their predicament. He was signed to get the goals to help us over the line to promotion, which is exactly what he did. Once promoted, everything changes and the club has to look afresh at the squad. Despite the understandable euphoria of Ramirez's signing we still have a number of players that were playing in League 1 18 months ago. No disrespect to those players nor to where they have taken us from in so short a space of time, quite the opposite, but it remains to be seen whether we have the strength throughout the squad to succeed in the PL.

In reality he is behind Lambert, Jay, Mayuka and probably Lee for the CF spot - and I'm sure he is on 20k plus a week - can we afford to have a player on that much not playing often and maybe not making the bench?

If he is off as seems likely, there's no point arguing the toss, but I don't really agree with this. IMO Billy is an out and out goal poacher/scorer. Certainly not the same type of player as Lee or Mayuka. Let's see what happens in December when Jayrod is injured and Rickie is knackered!

This has definitely taken the shine off what has been turning out to be an impressive transfer window.

Well, I guess you had to find something :-)

Really like the fella, but looked a little short of class against Wigan. I feel the PL is a step too far for him, in any case Sharp and O'Driscoll work well together. We may see him back, I wish him well and thank him for his contribution but clearly he saw the writing on the wall.

Anyone who has actually seen him play much should know he's not a top flight standard player so this isn't surprising.

That said, seems like a good bloke and will be remembered as part of a promotion winning team. Good luck Billy.

It is mental. The one striker who found the back of the net in pre-season. Where is Adkins sense of loyalty, especially as Billy was a former player of his. Has to be a personal reason in it, as he'd have really done well for us this season with decent players feeding him. Rarely felt so gutted on losing a player just as his moment of glory awaits.

Personally I'm quite pleased. I thought we might be stuck paying his wages whilst he was 5th or 6th choice. We need to lose a few to make room. Our wage bill must be getting out of hand.

I've never really rated him myself and didn't think he was good enough for the Prem. No pace, average touch, crap in the air, doesn't hold it up well, no trick, average movement and I'm not even sure he is the best finisher in the world. All just IMO of course.

Has to be one of the least surprising moves in football history seeing as NFFC had is player profile page up and ready months ago.
