Saint Garrett Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Probably the most likely of our strikers to leave although I don't want him to go, believe he's got a part to play this year. John Percy @John__Percy #nffc battling to complete deal for Billy Sharp from Southampton. Would be signing No. 10 of the summer but up in the air at present ..

O'driscoll Loves him, but I'd rather him stay here..
SaintsAhoy Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 He really helped our push for the Prem. However, whilst I admire his goal poaching skills, I feel he's a little one dimensional and not quite skillful enough for the Premier League. Wouldn't be too devastated if he left.
Suhari Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 I said when we were close to signing him that he would score the goals to get us to the prem, but would not do much/anything for us in the prem. Gut feel at the time was that he would be the makeweight in a summer deal to sign Hooper. Would not be surprised to see him go - good, good goalscorer, but I don't think prem quality or what we need for the way we are looking to play. Wish him all the best though!
Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Let him go and get Michael Owen in.
St Chalet Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 I think Sharp is an impact goal scorer, I think he is the most effective 'poacher' we have had in years.
monkadill Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 oh look at the regal one's righting off our players in the mist of a transfer dead line. Titter ye not!
monkadill Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Gulp - 16.54: Reports are circulating that Nottingham Forest are trying to thrash out a deal for Southampton striker Billy Sharp. Sharp only joined the Saints in January, but he has moved down the pecking order this summer with plenty of new arrivals at St Mary's.
SuperSAINT Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 The only way I'd let Sharp leave would be if Mayuka goes up top, and Matt Phillips (or another wide-man comes in)
St Chalet Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Genuinely think Sharp offers us something different. Based on what I have seen so far I would loan them Jrod instead.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Genuinely think Sharp offers us something different. Based on what I have seen so far I would loan them Jrod instead. Are you alpine in disguise?
smithy Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 I think Sharp is an impact goal scorer, I think he is the most effective 'poacher' we have had in years. This.
red&white56 Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Why did we buy him if he's so suddenly surplus to requirements ? I don't want to think that our leaders didn't think we would get promoted last year and only bought him to help us get promoted this year. We should keep him !!
Thedelldays Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Why did we buy him if he's so suddenly surplus to requirements ? I don't want to think that our leaders didn't think we would get promoted last year and only bought him to help us get promoted this year. We should keep him !! we bought him to ensure we got over the line......imo
Wade Garrett Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 I feared this, and it's one of the reasons I started the thread about players leaving. I hope he stays, natural goalscorer.
red&white56 Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 If we bought him to get over the line then i hope someone also thought about whether he would cut the mustard in the PL - if we let him go it seems that our assessement of whom we needed to survive in the PL was poor.
Saint Scott Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Rob Barrow @That_Barrow_Kid @billysharp10 come to forest mate! i'll clean your car, do the ironing, clean your boots, cook your dinner all for free! cracking deal! Retweeted by billy sharp

RobM Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 I'd love Sharp to stay, but he's too good to warm anyones bench, but not quite good enough to push aside Rickie, JRod and others. He suits a 4-4-2 formation alongside somebody like Rickie, but we just don't play like that.
JoeShmoe Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 sharp isn't a PL player, never will be, despite how much we all like the bloke
RobM Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 sharp isn't a PL player, never will be, despite how much we all like the bloke I think Sharp would do well in the Prem, alongside another striker to feed off of and with plenty of supply in the box. He won't suit every style of play, but if you can pepper the box with crosses, he'll convert a healthy amount of them in any league.
badgerx16 Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 (edited) So who exactly to we have that can play up front ? SRL, J-Rod, and if not Billy then who ? I'm not sure Ramirez or Guly can play as an out and out striker, so would we not be a bit light on goal scoring cover, if we lose Billy we are left with Lee. Edited 31 August, 2012 by badgerx16
Golden Balls Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Give him and chance and he'll usually score. Would be very sad if he left.
St Marco Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Would prefer him to stay to be honest. Did very well for us last season and think he would do alright for us in the PL in the scrappy games. He gives us a different option up front. Of all the strikers i'd rather Guly went. He is our weakest striker imo.
adrian lord Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 His career at Saints is seemingly in the balance, he has never really got his plane out of the hangar, although he has only had 1/2 a season, granted.
S-Clarke Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Forest have been sniffing around for around a month. Even O'Driscoll came out and said he's a player he'd like to work with again. Guess it depends what else we have up our sleeves.
alpine_saint Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 I think Sharp is an impact goal scorer, I think he is the most effective 'poacher' we have had in years. At least. I am going to be so f**ked off if this happens. We are going too far down the Carlos Kick-a-Ball route for my taste.
The Kraken Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 At least. I am going to be so f**ked off if this happens. We are going too far down the Carlos Kick-a-Ball route for my taste. Top scorer in the African Cup of Nations, and played for the winning side in the tournament. Against an obviously Championship level player. I know which I'd choose.
Avenue Saint Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 lambert, lee, jrod, mayuka... nice quality quartet of strikers!
alpine_saint Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Top scorer in the African Cup of Nations, and played for the winning side in the tournament. Against an obviously Championship level player. I know which I'd choose. Sorry, but the words Augustin Delgado have been repeatedly coming up in my mind the last few days...

I know which I'd choose. Heskey? Anyway, I find it odd that the same person who has been moaning about our lack of squad movement, is now moaning that we are making too many changes. Hang on, scrap that, it's not odd. It's par the course. Mods....
Avenue Saint Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Top scorer in the African Cup of Nations, and played for the winning side in the tournament. Against an obviously Championship level player. I know which I'd choose. spot on
The Kraken Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Sorry, but the words Augustin Delgado have been repeatedly coming up in my mind the last few days... Who for? Mayuka or Ramirez?
Thedelldays Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 At least. I am going to be so f**ked off if this happens. We are going too far down the Carlos Kick-a-Ball route for my taste.didnt you want a whole load of signings..?
up and away Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 If we bought him to get over the line then i hope someone also thought about whether he would cut the mustard in the PL - if we let him go it seems that our assessement of whom we needed to survive in the PL was poor. I have always been of the opinion that he was not good enough for the Premier. Still one of the best buys last season because he did the business to get us across the line. It's sad to see those that helped us get where we are being discarded to stay in the league, but Wigan has shown me I would rather have a handful disappointed rather than all.
Junction 9 Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Looking at the scoring records between Sharp and J-Rod, Sharps is far better. He's only 3 years older. Out of the two signings I'd say J-Rod's was the stranger decision and the one we shouldn't have made.
conaero Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Shame if he goes, I believe he will do well in the Prem and score some important impact goals off the bench. Keep him I say.
mynameisthehulk Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 BBC Sport's Nabil Hassan: "Southampton striker Billy Sharp is attracting the interest of Nottingham Forest." http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19439559
Saint Fan CaM Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Would be a shame if Billy left, but who knows, perhaps he's asked to go because he realises he's going to be warming the bench?

Out of the two signings I'd say J-Rod's was the stranger decision and the one we shouldn't have made. IMO there's no denying at all that the J-Rod signing is a very bizarre one. That said, I view Billy Sharp as a separate case entirely. And I just don't see him as being good enough to make an impact in the Premier League. Having Mayuka and Lee on board perhaps pushes him down the pecking order anyway, we've got an abundance of forward players now.
The Majestic Channon Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Sorry, but the words Augustin Delgado have been repeatedly coming up in my mind the last few days... Only from narrow minded bell ends who can't seem to grasp not all south americans are problematic. What is it with you? moan moan moan no matter what the club do, we haven't had it so good for decades, if ever. If we won the league the champions league and the league and fa cup you would still be on here whining like a demented d ick head why do you bother with saints? everything's obviously s hit
St Marco Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Top scorer in the African Cup of Nations, and played for the winning side in the tournament. Against an obviously Championship level player. I know which I'd choose. Not knocking the lad but **** there is some serious spin on this....firstly he was joint top scorer with 6 other players. You make it sound like he was the best thing in that tournament. He had 6 games and scored 3 goals. Christopher Katongo scored 3 goals and won the player of the tournament award. Houssine Kharja scored 3 goals in 3 games, by your logic does that make him god?
OLDER BUT WISER Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 JRod is Rickys natural replacement and it could be sooner rather than later

Houssine Kharja scored 3 goals in 3 games, by your logic does that make him god? 1 goals every 2 games at top international level is pretty impressive. And its not spin, I stated a fact. In any case, where have I said he's God-like or any other similar description? Simply that I'd prefer to have Mayuka than a Championship level striker who I seriously doubt would step up to Premier League level. How controversial. Sorry, next time I'll qualify my thoughts with an MLG style analysis.
pap Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Going to be a long hard season. Billy Sharp will get goals in this division, has been on fire in pre-season too. We have a lot of forward players and I'm not sure how regularly he's going to get a game. Shame really, because I really rate him.
Saint Charlie Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 IMO there's no denying at all that the J-Rod signing is a very bizarre one. That said, I view Billy Sharp as a separate case entirely. If you think JRod is a bizarre signing then you are not thinking straight IMO. Very clearly a replacement being groomed for Lamberts role.
badgerx16 Posted 31 August, 2012 Posted 31 August, 2012 Sorry, forgot Mayuka in my previous post - 32 goals in 55 games playing in Switzzerland, plus 10 in 36 internationals.
