DEADLINE day countdown.......

What star players? Most of our squad is average at this level. Anybody moving would only be going sideways to a similar sized club as we don't have anybody good enough to be on the radar of the top premiership clubs.

How much we've spent is irrelevant. How many times have we seen the likes of Sunderland spend millions and still struggle?

We've broken the transfer record because players are over priced and sadly that's what you have to pay. It bears no reflection on the quality of what you get. For example, We payed £7m for J-Rod and Berbatov has just gone to Fulham for £4m. I know which of those players I'd rather have seen in a saints shirt. Ok, you might only get 2 seasons out of Berba, but it's about survival at the moment.

Yes, we've signed one of Europes most wanted but one man doesn't make a team. What happens if he gets injured. What have we got then? Nothing, because we spent everything on one man instead of adding quality and depth.

Shut up you big girls blouse. None of our signings have kicked a ball yet ffs!

I am amazed how saints fans could NOT be happy with this transfer window

not only did we keep our already here star players

we spent more than I can ever remember (5th most in the country)

we are one of the highest net spenders

we have broken our transfer record twice

and signed one of Europes most wanted hotshot talents..

yet some are not impressed or what ever....???

Definitely!

Hell yes!! Great work by Southampton in this summer's transfer window!

Gaston Ramirez (21 year old skillful attacking midfielder, Uruguayan international),

Emmanuel Mayuka (21 year old 'lightning quick' ™ zambian international striker),

Maya Yoshida (24 year old Japanese defender, national team captain),

Steven Davis (27 year old Glasgow Rangers captain and Northern Ireland international midfielder)

Jay Rodriguez (23 year old Burnley striker, scored 21 goals last season)

Nathaniel Clyne (21 year old Right Back, Player of the year for Crystal Palace last season.)

Paulo Gazzaniga (20 year old Argentinian Goalkeeper)

Cody Cropper ( 19 year old U.S. Under 20's national goalkeeper)

Did I miss any? Phew.... Extremely happy with that little lot! ;)

Do people really think Pucheon, De Ridder and Guly are Premier League quality? Sure they can step up for the odd game - but not a season. Hopefully that's all we will need.

Have to say I am more worried about our defence than attacking options. And I'm not convinced by Steven Davis either - looks to light weight for the Premier League to me.

So playing the seemingly preferred 4-3-3 system our first choice 11 will probably look something like this:

Ramirez. Lambert. Mayuka.

Lallana. Morgan. Cork.

Fox. Hooiveld. Fonte/Yoshida. Clyne.

Davis.

Is that going to be good enough to keep us up if we don't have any injuries?

No! People need to be realistic. We've not got what's needed to stay in this league and we've failed to land the sort of players that are needed to survive the first season or two at this level.

Being as we can still sign out of contract players after the cooling off period, what would people think about us signing Danny Gabbidon on a years contract? He may not be of the comparable quality of signings like Ramirez, but as a fourth choice central defender with Premier League & international experience, surely on a free transfer he'd be worth a punt? If you asked me whether I'd prefer Gabbidon or one of Seaborne/Stephens/Richardson at centre back, I'd pick Gabbidon every time.

I remember plenty of people on here, not necessarily you, saying the same thing when we were promoted to the Championship.

We have added people with youth, skill and a ton of potential on their side - in the opinion of others far away from this Club. The addition of width and pace is huge.

I'm delighted that we've moved well beyond this "sign experienced players and hang on for grim death" concept.

When we see this lot dovetail together, which won't happen right away, I think we'll all be very pleased.

How many times have we had our fingers burned with unknown foreign players who can't settle or simply don't perform and turn out to be tempramental? Watch this space. I see see another Augustin Delgado amongst this lot. When did Saints ever spend big money and get good value? £4m for Rory Delap. £3.2m for Delgado. Now £7m for J-Rod and £12m for Ramierez. I'll bet you a cheese sandwich that neither work out.

We lost out on Büttner.

I really wonder about the circumstances behind that. Does Ferguson and the Glazers really pay third-party comittments, or did Büttner's agent get wind of Manyoo interest then laid low for a couple of weeks to avoid the stink that gazumping would cause ?

Maybe, as much as it hurts you cant really blame a player from chosing that red nosed old bastard over us.

Shame though as he looks a player, expect him to play Sunday and probably score.

Funny, I could have sworn I saw him hammer one past the English Champions the other day. Must have been mistaken!

Wake up. There's been league two strikers who've scored against the premier league champions. The trick is to do it every week and I don't see him doing it at this level. Top premiership defenders will have him well worked out.

Sorry that I am the thickest on here, but can anyone point me to where it states that Yoshida and Mayuka have actually SIGNED contracts.

I am well aware that they had expressed their desire to come to Saints, but can't find on the OS where it states that they have signed ??

Are you putting in extra effort to be a relentless goon? It seems you've gone into Mr Angry overdrive in a ,assive effort to appear outraged and edgy. Most odd.

I think the picture of Adkins and Mayuka at St Mary's was a giveaway. Yoshida will link up when he returns from international duty. Both were confirmed on the OS.

Did we? Or did we walk away? For me he was arsing about - Dad wanted a cut etc - so I think we walked. All IMO as, like the rest of us I wasn't party to the negotiations/communications. All I know is that he doesn't play for SFC and I'm not about to start living my life on what ifs?

You argued that the deals werent there to be made as some sort of justifcation for not doing more about the defence. I was pointing out we were involved in one that went tits up for some unspecified reason, so deals were there to be made.

Personally, I think we dropped the ball a bit on the defensive issues.

Doesn't say "SIGNED contracts." But this is close enough no?

I'm extremely happy with the players that we have signed. I'm a little concerned that we could do with a goalkeeper, left back, centre back, holding midfielder and at least one winger. I know it's greedy but there we go. That's 5 players short and a long time till the next transfer window. Is there enough strength in depth?

Put the beer down, get in bed, hold your billy sharp duvet tight and pretend were back in league 1 if itll make you feel better

Firstly, I don't drink. Secondly, the Billy Sharp duvet is in the wash after I came all over it last night. Thirdly, I wish we weren't in the Prem. it's a complete joke of a league. Only a handful of teams that can ever win it. Give me the championship any day.

Don't agree with the winger and holding midfielder at all, we have those. Our forward line is pretty impressive now, that's to be applauded.

But we have a 36 year old goalkeeper who spectacularly failed in his last and only season in the Premier League. And sincere doubts surrounding two of our senior centre backs and also our left back.

I believe in a policy of building a team from the back; get the defence right and then build from that. SFC seem to have taken slightly the opposite approach.

Not missed a home game since 2004. I do a round trip of about 450 miles to watch the home games. Sometimes I drive, other times I fly. Given the amount I spend with the club I think I'm entitled to have an opinion.

Entitled to your opinion mate:rolleyes:

Not convinced you are quite with us at the moment:p

But I might be wrong;)

That is my opinion and not usually wrong:smug:

bet you loved it when we were getting are arses kicked. Any league is great if you're winning every week. I'm not a big prem fan, but you either go forward or you quickly start to go backwards. If we hadn't been promoted who knows who'd have left this summer. Be thankful for that and enjoy the ride.

Not there or not right.

I don't disagree with you re dropping the ball (a bit) - I'd have loved to see a n other CB or LB or GK but the deal has got to be right in more ways than just there. It wouldn't surprise me if we were offered all of those but decided not to follow it up for whatever reason. Anyway enough of this - I'm looking forward to seeing Ramirez play and the Zambian bloke who's name evades me.

Do you even support saints?

How you can compare Delgado and Delap to J-Rod and Ramirez is beyond me, the latter both have sell on value, are young, exciting and as signings set us apart from all the boring PL clubs that buy your run of the mill, ageing players who albeit might have PL experience, but care more about their wage than developing and thriving as footballers.

And why do you focus on PL experience so much? Do you think Man City fans bemoaned the signing of David Silva because he hadn't been to the Brittania on a cold Tuesday night? Or Chelsea were wary of signing Hazard because he hadn't felt the force of Lee Cattermole's tough tackling? Bore off

why on earth do you do this? I thought I was a fanatic, you're off the scale.

We've made some exciting signings, Mayuka looks a rare talent for example, so I can't understand why you're not willing to give them a chance. You're very negative for a Saints fan. I mean it's not as though we're a top side, we have struggled for years and years. I'm a pessimist and a cynic, but at some point you've just got to roll with it. If we're not good enough we'll go down. SO what? On the other hand the likes of Ramirez could delight us.
