DEADLINE day countdown.......

Well done Saints

Short on a GK to be first choice, but lets hope KD does better than in the first two games, where he has been poor.

COYS

Really? 4 of the 5 goals past him have been screamers. Poor defending more like which should be fixed with Yoshi

I think Fox might look better this season because our addition of pace and width (the critical factor, and on both flanks) means that teams won't be so quick to take liberties down our left side.

Sure, that doesn't make Fox a better player but it could well mean that his weaknesses will be less exposed.

Ditto, really, for our centre backs, who hopefully won't be sucked out of position quite so easily.

I love the business we've done in the window.

Not happy that Fox is still #1 choice for LB, and how strong we are at CB remains to be seen.

Is it not obvious we need a new left back badly......I know we have made some great signings however Fox is as far removed from the class we have signed on this window

as you can get!!! Still cannot understand unloading Harding / a little Bizzare ...

Same. Really excited to see how we lineup vs Arsenal especially. Now let's get behind the squad and go for it.

Plus we have made one of the best signings of the whole league.

Totally. Under the radar of most of the media as well, they don't give a ****!

Happy with it all, but being a bit picky I'd have liked another LB....but we've still got 2 for every position, nice balance all over the squad and some terrific options now in the final third.

Also was speaking to someone earlier who watches alot of Dutch football, couldn't speak highly enough of Maya. ''Will be one of the top CB's in the league, very fast''.

Needs Maya and Mayuka to be good and Ramirez as good as we know he is and then the first XI and subs will be strong.

A couple of CB injuries would really hurt us but same with most teams I guess and imagine this will be further looked at for Jan.

lol its over we are done.

lol - perhaps Saints submitted the paperwork for the "mystery skoda figure" tonight before 2300hrs, and it won't get rubberstamped by the FA until tomorrow.... ;)

Overall pleased - perhaps 1/2 CBs light, but cover at least present everywhere else.

Hmmm is my overall feeling.

I really don't think we've added enough to the defence, especially our CB options. Could have probably done with one more.

Yoshi is a very risky signing IMO, played in a team last season who conceded the most goals in the league and were one game from relegation.

Thought we might have had one more deal in us today, especially as Adkins implied it was gonna be a late one for us. Maybe someone turned us down?

Ramirez in is fantastic, little disappointed Sharp has gone and not surprised by Hammond going.

I am amazed how saints fans could NOT be happy with this transfer window

not only did we keep our already here star players

we spent more than I can ever remember (5th most in the country)

we are one of the highest net spenders

we have broken our transfer record twice

and signed one of Europes most wanted hotshot talents..

yet some are not impressed or what ever....???

Sums things up pretty well. We needed an experienced CB. Now is not the time to be taking chances on players like Yoshida.

Sorry I think we needed a bit more quality and a bit more quantity.

Chuffed with Ramirez but he's only one player. Not sure we have the strength in depth we need to stay up. We still lack pace, a decent left back, wingers and 2 first choice centre backs of premier league quality.

I think we could have done with a quality keeper as well. Kelvin does have his weaknesses - distribution for one - and was a disaster at this level before.

Also I'm not sure we have the players to play this 4-3-3 system we seem keen on - or much strength beyond first 11.

Not interested in superlatives, only interested in squad improvement.

And it has to be said, the quality addition looks a little unbalanced. Would have been much happier if a LB or second CB had been added.

We have Puncheon, De Ridder, Lallana, Guly, Ramirez and Emmanuel who can all play on the flanks. The later being, very, very quick and exactly the sort of forward player we needed.

Maya is very quick, and that has come from a dutch fan I spoke to. So we've fixed our ''lack of pace'' issue at CB. Basically we've upgraded the qualtiy right down the spine over hte last 4 days.

You cannot moan about that really, and even though you might say we could do with an additional left sided defender, we still have 2 for each position and good balance all over the squad (and versatility up front, in that players can play all over) So all in all, the best window In my life time. Very exciting.

Buzzing to see Ramirez and our new guys.

Lesson 3: Some people are never happy.

Anyone who sees this transfer window as anything other than spectacular is a bit unhinged. Remember we can only name a 25 man squad so having people in triplicate (eg 3 keepers) doesn't make sense. Only area is CB but we obviously tried there without joy. Maya gives us cover and we have others who can step into the breach if critically required (Cork for example)

What star players? Most of our squad is average at this level. Anybody moving would only be going sideways to a similar sized club as we don't have anybody good enough to be on the radar of the top premiership clubs.

How much we've spent is irrelevant. How many times have we seen the likes of Sunderland spend millions and still struggle?

We've broken the transfer record because players are over priced and sadly that's what you have to pay. It bears no reflection on the quality of what you get. For example, We payed £7m for J-Rod and Berbatov has just gone to Fulham for £4m. I know which of those players I'd rather have seen in a saints shirt. Ok, you might only get 2 seasons out of Berba, but it's about survival at the moment.

Yes, we've signed one of Europes most wanted but one man doesn't make a team. What happens if he gets injured. What have we got then? Nothing, because we spent everything on one man instead of adding quality and depth.

Not happy. Defence desperately needed attention and has been ignored. We'll pay the price for this. :-(

best defence on the championship and we sign Clyne, Gazzinga and Yoshida. Football fans are never pleased.

We lost out on Büttner.

I really wonder about the circumstances behind that. Does Ferguson and the Glazers really pay third-party comittments, or did Büttner's agent get wind of Manyoo interest then laid low for a couple of weeks to avoid the stink that gazumping would cause ?

Sharp and Deano apart (thought both wouldn't hack it in PL) I quite like that we've shown some faith in players like Fox, Hooiveld, Fonte (maybe Chappers) and have also given genuine first-team hope for the likes of Shaw, JWP etc. Getting a whole new influx of players when teams go up is not a good thing. A team that is united, gets on, and is used to playing with one another is, and with the additions we have managed to make marks the best transfer window probably ever - given its relatively recent history.

Something was seriously fishy about the Buttner deal. I read on here that Buttner scuppered the transfer, which would suggest your lay low theory may have some legs.

Do people really think Pucheon, De Ridder and Guly are Premier League quality? Sure they can step up for the odd game - but not a season. Hopefully that's all we will need.

Have to say I am more worried about our defence than attacking options. And I'm not convinced by Steven Davis either - looks to light weight for the Premier League to me.

So playing the seemingly preferred 4-3-3 system our first choice 11 will probably look something like this:

Ramirez. Lambert. Mayuka.

Lallana. Morgan. Cork.

Fox. Hooiveld. Fonte/Yoshida. Clyne.

Davis.

Is that going to be good enough to keep us up if we don't have any injuries?

Ramirez, Makuda, Yoshida. No premiership experience between them. I see every one as a major gamble. I'd rather have seen us go for the likes of Phillips, Ince, Owen, Berbatov, Curtis Davies, Dann, Benayoun or Adam. All of who know what this league is all about. We sould've got a Keeper too. Robinson, Gordon etc. there's far Better keepers than the distinctly average ones we have.

Did we? Or did we walk away? For me he was arsing about - Dad wanted a cut etc - so I think we walked. All IMO as, like the rest of us I wasn't party to the negotiations/communications. All I know is that he doesn't play for SFC and I'm not about to start living my life on what ifs?
