syd_barrett_saint Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 Like the sound of that. And Nixon has a good record of calling Saints news recently. Hope he's right and we can get Williams on the bus.
Glasgow_Saint Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 Injured? http://www.oneboro.co.uk/forum/showthread.php?tid=4157
MarkSFC Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 Him, Yoshida, Ramirez and a left back would be awesome!!
Matthew Le God Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 (edited) He tweeted this today... Alan Nixon says... "2-3 week job. That includes international break. No biggie." Edited 29 August, 2012 by Matthew Le God
James Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 Great player, versatile too. Of all the CBs we've been linked with I like the sound of Williams best. Young and fits with our mantra and probably better than what we have.
The Kraken Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 So this is the excellent £6M bid Nicko was on about?
Stattmeister Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/boro-fc/boro-fc-news/2012/08/29/boro-braced-for-bad-news-on-captain-rhys-williams-84229-31718653/ Local paper says he was injured in thr match and could be out for months... or am i being daft?
Aura Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 Ok then kinda pointless signing a dude that will be gone for Months. on to the next one i guess
Glasgow_Saint Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 So this is the excellent £6M bid Nicko was on about? Nixon has weird taste in his men
SuperSAINT Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 Would've been funnier if the SSN breaking news was that we'd bid for him...
shirleysfc Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 http://www.gazettelive.co.uk/boro-fc/boro-fc-news/2012/08/29/boro-braced-for-bad-news-on-captain-rhys-williams-84229-31718653/ Local paper says he was injured in thr match and could be out for months... or am i being daft? Cue he can replace Connoly on the physio table hilarity...
shirleysfc Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 Would've been funnier if the SSN breaking news was that we'd bid for him... Or porn...
Saint Scott Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 Are saints trying to sign someone from every continent? Ramirez - South America Mayuka - Africa Lee/Yoshida - Asia Rodriguez/Clyne - Europe Williams - Australasia All we need now is a Mexican and American to complete the set.
itchen_dan Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 reluctantnicko: @MatthewLeGod 2-3 week job. That includes international break. No biggie.

Why would we need 2 North Americans.
Saint Scott Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 Why would we need 2 North Americans. Mexico is classed in the continent of Central America
Glasgow_Saint Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 reluctantnicko: @MatthewLeGod 2-3 week job. That includes international break. No biggie. Haha MLG telling Nixon about my injury "exclusive" brilliant
hypochondriac Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 What is he like? Also has he played in defence a lot for Boro?
S-Clarke Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 It's not a big injury apparently. Fan of his, very classy on the ball. Can also play as a sitting midfielder, or as a RB. Nice versatility in the squad. By the tone of his tweets I'd assumed we'd gone for one of the Stoke fella's though! (As we did watch them as well for some reason). £6m is a tad pricey, wouldn't pay too much over that.
Lazlo78 Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 I just talked to my Boro supporting mate, who describes Williams as a genetical experiment. They tried to combine the physique of Robert Huth, the technique of David Luiz and the footballing brain of Joe Cole. Unfortunately the screwed up and ended with the physique of Joe Cole, the technique of Robert Huth and the footballing brain of David Luiz He's no better than what we already have, and wouldn't be able to oust Scott Hiley from the starting XI against Man U...

Would rather spend that on an eastern European (obviously through the scouting network) and pick up the next Vidic/Ivanovic we lack that commanding type of centre half.
Lazlo78 Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 As an aside, the Boro fans I chatted with last season, rate Williams higher than Matthew Bates - reckon he's their best player...
Saint Scott Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 I hope you're not a geography teacher!! It's a sub continent. Not one of the main ones as is Eurasia and Afro-Eurasia.
hypochondriac Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 Really mixed reviews then. I don't know who to believe!
Appy Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 Very good player I am told. Graeme Bailey described him as "the best player in the Championship" last season, going overboard there i think.

JustMike Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 Mexico is in North America, the CIA say so... https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/wfbExt/region_noa.html No news from the ground (to answer your question that seems to have vanished)
S-Clarke Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 Boro fans probably know more than Nixon on this, they all seem pretty sure he's out long-term with an ankle ligament injury.
shirleysfc Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 No news from the ground (to answer your question that seems to have vanished) Thanks! It got moved to TMS by someone???!?
Saint Scott Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 Mexico is in North America, the CIA say so... https://www.cia.gov/library/publications/the-world-factbook/wfbExt/region_noa.html Yes when you put it in terms of 7 continents but when you take sub continents into account it is in fact set apart from North America. Have a look at a geographical text book and it will tell you that.
S-Clarke Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 (edited) No ones sure yet, he's still being assesed, but it reallyyyy didnt look good. But 6mil is nowhere near enough to get him. Hes not long signed a contract extension and hes our most prized possession. .... Williams is easily worth £10m+ and £6m is almost insulting! Hes a centre back mainly. But can play on the right side of defence or in midfield. Very very classy, calm, assured on the ball, reads the game very well and rarely makes a mistake. Also has a good range of passing for a defender and isnt bad in the air either. Edited 29 August, 2012 by S-Clarke
sotonjoe Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 Call me mental, but I don't want to pay £6m for a player with an injury that was potentially serious but apparently is not so bad after all. Not until the injury is sorted anyway, i.e. not during this window.
Turkish Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 Completely agree. Would rather spend that on an eastern European (obviously through the scouting network) and pick up the next Vidic/Ivanovic we lack that commanding type of centre half. I hope we are scouting in Serbia, Croatia and so on. They've produced some excellent players in recent years and can be picked up quite cheaply. When you think Vidic only cost £7m, a million more than Blackburn want for Scott Dann!
Saint Garrett Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 One of my best mates is a Boro fan and he rates him as one of the best players in the championship last season. From what i have seen, he'd fit in very well, likes the ball at his feet. Would love us to sign him, top player.

I imagine we have a few different options at the moment so we'll still be watching a few players even at this late stage!
S-Clarke Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 A classy central defender who could fit into a Swansea style team seamlessly. .... Last season a proper prem team was linked with him Bolton (yeh yeh relegated) BUT the starting offers stood at aroung 8-10m if Saints managed too but Rhys for £6m when hes our captain on a new 4 year deal I'd actually bomb saint marys (live in pompy) actually can think of a worse team for him to go too but and i use BUT stongly £12-14m and I'll even come watch him in the gay southern end of your stadium!!! We rejected a bid from Bolton in January, I think that offer was 8mil. And we came out and said theres no chance we'll sell him. So you're talking easily 12mil+ I would say.
Lazlo78 Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 Just watched this video until 6:58 to check if it was Bates or Williams who was sold a dummy by Lambert: It was Bates... both Guly's goals were against Bates too...

They've produced some excellent players in recent years and can be picked up quite cheaply. When you think Vidic only cost £7m, a million more than Blackburn want for Scott Dann! My thoughts exactly. I missed Skrtel off that list too. They just seem to breed world class defenders in that part of Europe and are sold for next to nothing.
shurlock Posted 29 August, 2012 Posted 29 August, 2012 Got worries about this lad - excellent player but has a history of pretty serious injuries. At £6m, wouldn't take the risk.

Ramirez - South America Mayuka - Africa Lee/Yoshida - Asia Rodriguez/Clyne - Europe Williams - Australasia All we need now is a Mexican and American to complete the set. So if you're counting Central America as a sub continent rather than part of North America then surely we need to buy someone from India/Pakistan to "complete the set" too? I am also assuming there are other subcontinents we need to sign players from to "complete the set". Please advise, preferably before I get infracted and this post gets moved to the muppet show.
