Great player, versatile too. Of all the CBs we've been linked with I like the sound of Williams best. Young and fits with our mantra and probably better than what we have.

Are saints trying to sign someone from every continent?

Ramirez - South America

Mayuka - Africa

Lee/Yoshida - Asia

Rodriguez/Clyne - Europe

Williams - Australasia

All we need now is a Mexican and American to complete the set.

Why would we need 2 North Americans.

It's not a big injury apparently.

Fan of his, very classy on the ball. Can also play as a sitting midfielder, or as a RB. Nice versatility in the squad.

By the tone of his tweets I'd assumed we'd gone for one of the Stoke fella's though! (As we did watch them as well for some reason).

£6m is a tad pricey, wouldn't pay too much over that.

I just talked to my Boro supporting mate, who describes Williams as a genetical experiment. They tried to combine the physique of Robert Huth, the technique of David Luiz and the footballing brain of Joe Cole. Unfortunately the screwed up and ended with the physique of Joe Cole, the technique of Robert Huth and the footballing brain of David Luiz

He's no better than what we already have, and wouldn't be able to oust Scott Hiley from the starting XI against Man U...

Completely agree. Would rather spend that on an eastern European (obviously through the scouting network) and pick up the next Vidic/Ivanovic we lack that commanding type of centre half.

Very good player I am told.

Graeme Bailey described him as "the best player in the Championship" last season, going overboard there i think.

No ones sure yet, he's still being assesed, but it reallyyyy didnt look good.

But 6mil is nowhere near enough to get him. Hes not long signed a contract extension and hes our most prized possession.

....

Williams is easily worth £10m+ and £6m is almost insulting!

Hes a centre back mainly. But can play on the right side of defence or in midfield. Very very classy, calm, assured on the ball, reads the game very well and rarely makes a mistake. Also has a good range of passing for a defender and isnt bad in the air either.

Call me mental, but I don't want to pay £6m for a player with an injury that was potentially serious but apparently is not so bad after all. Not until the injury is sorted anyway, i.e. not during this window.

I hope we are scouting in Serbia, Croatia and so on. They've produced some excellent players in recent years and can be picked up quite cheaply. When you think Vidic only cost £7m, a million more than Blackburn want for Scott Dann!

One of my best mates is a Boro fan and he rates him as one of the best players in the championship last season. From what i have seen, he'd fit in very well, likes the ball at his feet. Would love us to sign him, top player.

I imagine we have a few different options at the moment so we'll still be watching a few players even at this late stage!

A classy central defender who could fit into a Swansea style team seamlessly.
....

Last season a proper prem team was linked with him Bolton (yeh yeh relegated) BUT the starting offers stood at aroung 8-10m if Saints managed too but Rhys for £6m when hes our captain on a new 4 year deal I'd actually bomb saint marys (live in pompy) actually can think of a worse team for him to go too but and i use BUT stongly £12-14m and I'll even come watch him in the gay southern end of your stadium!!!

We rejected a bid from Bolton in January, I think that offer was 8mil. And we came out and said theres no chance we'll sell him. So you're talking easily 12mil+ I would say.

Just watched this video until 6:58 to check if it was Bates or Williams who was sold a dummy by Lambert:

It was Bates... both Guly's goals were against Bates too...

My thoughts exactly. I missed Skrtel off that list too. They just seem to breed world class defenders in that part of Europe and are sold for next to nothing.

So if you're counting Central America as a sub continent rather than part of North America then surely we need to buy someone from India/Pakistan to "complete the set" too? I am also assuming there are other subcontinents we need to sign players from to "complete the set". Please advise, preferably before I get infracted and this post gets moved to the muppet show.

Yes you are right to say India/Pakistan but I can't recall a single player from either country featuring in the top division of English football so in a sense they don't really count much like Antarctica.
