Sponserless shirts...?

Just watched the u18 highlights and noticed they don't have the sponsor on.

why isn't this available to buy?

i mean am already paying £50 for it so why should i be a walking billboard, plus it cheapens the shirt imo. i'd pay extra to not have it there tbh. maybe even make the sponsored shirt cheaper, so i don't feel like i'm buying an expensive but better fitting sandwich board :)

and i understand the concepts of business, money & marketing, before the obvious brigade come rushing in...

There were a few unsponsored keeper shirts in the store(s) last season, I assume that was more of a stock glitch than policy though.

I assume the U-18s have their own shirt sponsorship deals (like we used to have Centerprise and Orchard for the academy teams) and they just don't have one at the moment. You probably can't buy their shirts because having the sponsor's name on all replicas is probably part of aap3's deal with us.

I dont get why the club does not do a deal for match day sponsor ship and then plain shirts for sale. Sure the sponsor would pay a bit less, but they still get their product on tv,,, thats the big one,,, and then the club will prob sell more shirts,,, I mean who wants to walk round being a walking billboard, most shirts the sponsor is bigger than the club logo.

Thats exactly the point. Sponsors would pay less. Tv is only part of the game. The walking billboard is normally a big part of their decision to sponsor. It is subliminal unlike the TV where you are concentrating on the game. For example, how many noticed the Wigan sponsors?

I should probably take this opportunity to plug these Saints kits on eBay - 2 days remaining, all in the original bags with tags and labels and so on, basically exactly as they would be if you bought then new.

I can't remember Wigan's sponsor either, it was some online betting company though.

so it's all down to economies of scale, and ofc the sponser would pay less, but without real figures it's hard to judge the impact, didn't our sash kit well more than anything else recently? I know my brother (a Liverpool fan) bought an away top mainly because it didn't have a sponser.

would the sponsor pay more if we just handed the shirts out?

or would the club make more if every shirt was £100 a pop?

I just think it's a shame we dont have a choice.

I'm not really a fan of shirt sponsorship or brands for that matter. Love my sponsorless retro kit, also love the sash kit. Both look much classier than the ones plastered in hoardings.

I'd pay a small premium for a kit without the sponsor. Bet a lot of people would too.

I'd pay the same price as for one with a sponsor. Don't give them ideas...

Of course if you lot want to go and buy my brand spanking as new old school Saints kits from the links above, then I could probably afford to get one made. (Unlikely but a plug is a plug).

Don't know why everyone's so bothered about Sponsorless shirts.

I think they look ****e without a sponsor.

The 125th Anniversary home/away's were an exception, obviously didn't because they were special and the Red Sash on the home kit would have looked terrible with a sponsor on top of it.

When I last bought an England shirt (AGES ago) I'd get the front number print on it just to make it look a bit less bland.

Have always thought sponsors look cool on Club football shirts and think International Teams' kit would look better with them on to make them look less bland.

I bet u used to tip ex band names on ur school bag to fill in the bland bits :-D

plus there are plenty of red sash kits out there with sponsers on.

Supporters should be paid by the sponsors for advertising their companies.

Technically they possibly are. Without the replica shirt element the sponsorship would reduce and the shirt price might rise to fill the gap.

In practice of course there's price sensitivity and the shirts might just not sell, but I'm not buying a shirt and I might consider doing so if I got a sponsorless one for a tenner on top...

if it wasn't a terrible shirt.

Or they could start charging for car parking. :)

Funnily enough the sash was our last £40 shirt and we've paid £42 the last two seasons. A cynic would point this out. Another cynic would point out that's what Umbro charge for all new shirts though.

Getting a bit off topic now, so is anyone going to buy some of my still-in-the-packaging Saints shirts (S,L,XL, 5 different styles from the mid-90s and early 2000s plus that charcoal one) ? Starting at between £10-£20 and auction finishing around 4pm tomorrow. :)

Roll up roll up... getcha links above.

I don't buy replica kits, especially this terrible version, but the stick-on AAP sponsor logo is terrible. It makes the shirt look even cheaper than it is, if that's possible.

why dont u buy replica kits..?

and why us this year's shirt so terrible?

I get mugged off enough for the ticket prices without falling for the £40 for a piece of old tat trick. Every year my family ask if I want one for my birthday and I decline. I have no interest in being a walking advertising hoarding nor do I understand why grown men feel the need to wear them to games or worse around town. I know who I support and the fact I'm in the stadium home and away is enough evidence of who I support. I don't need a shirt to make me feel like I am a great supporter. It also makes me laugh when fans moan about not having the funds to go to a game, but have bought a shirt. For me going to games and getting that buzz from scoring goals and winning games is what its about. Shirts are for the kids. Each to their own I suppose.

This year's design is boring, unappealing in every way, cheap looking, IMO has a Sunday league styling and rounded off with a cheap and nasty sponsor logo stuck on with the pin stripes showing through. I am not even bothered that it not striped, it is just a very average shirt topped of with red shirts and red socks that just adds to the overall lameness.
