Steve De Ridder could be on his way...

Don't totally buy that - we had no problem getting the ball to AOC in decent, dangerous positions. I think its more that the rest of team has never really trusted the lad.

I'm pretty sure they didn't.... hence right backs trying to overlap and bypass SDR rather than playing through balls for SDR to run onto. When they did pass to SDR it was usually with his back to goal with 2 defenders on him Adam Lallanna might be able to dribble his way through that SDR wasn't that skillful.

You could see his frustration at 99 times out of 100 getting the ball passed behind him, when he did get the right ball he did actually make something of it. That said as time passed he also looked like he was trying too hard so was probably gone prematurely for the pass.

Dutch lads on holiday last summer did speak very highly of him. One Ajax fan did say they looked very seriously at him as he was fast had a good engine to get from attack into defence (remember v Reading last season at SMS) and vice versa, plus he had good vision for a pass, this was what turned them off him as he would look for a pass rather than being selfish and take the chance himself. Shame really.

I'm convinced that we have only seen a few glimpses of de Ridder at his best. However, it seems that the way this club has generally improved it's standards (due to promotions), we may never be able to give him the playing time and patience that could help him regain his confidence. If true, we should sell him and not be surprised if he's suddenly quite good for someone else.

However, it would be interesting to see if this new 4-3-3 would actually fit him much better than a 4-4-2 - he might still be a specialist who fits very well in the 4-3-3 and features as an impact player.

He's 25 years old, the chances of him developing his game to any significant degree at this stage of his career are slim. He's an archetypcal run around merchant, plenty of pace and potential but extremely lacking in end product. He didn't make it anywhere near the first team with us in the Championship so there's very little benefit in keeping him here.

A very accurate summary if I might be so bold sir....

Fantastic news if so. I found a video of him on youtube and he looks strong, skillful and knows how to find the back of the net - check out some of the screamers he's banged in!

Really excited by this one if we can get it over the line in time. Also, my brother plays a lot of Football Manager and says he thinks he signed him last year and he was total boss (but he wasn't sure if it was him or Daniel De Ridder).

I believe he'd be the missing piece in us assembling a truly competitive Premiership squad.

His abilities didn't suit our style and vice versa. We didn't play through balls as they were high risk, and wanted to play a passing game when he wanted to run at people and attack the box with the ball. Having said that he scored some useful goals against some of the better Championship sides.

I actually think he'd be better suited to the Prem, but not in a side playing slow possession football. He's surely ideal for a 4-3-3 at home if the job is to support the central striker.

I like Steve, he is a good player to have in the squad as he's quite versatile, he works very hard, he's got good pace and he's also very direct. If his final ball was better everyone would love him.

I think he may go out on loan somewhere. He's still only young.
