Gazzaniga made his debut last night, I thought he did OK given he had a makeshift defence in front of him. Didnt really have a save to make or have a chance with their goal either.

But...he does have a seriously dodgy haircut he may get his mane pulled by unscrupulous players at corners for example.

Are you suggesting that some players may cheat to gain an advantage??:eek::eek:

When I saw the thread title I thought it was going to be about Di Canio, who will be in the frame if/when NA is fired. I'm not advocating NA is fired, by the way, I think he deserves a chance to show what he can do in the Prem, having dragged the club up through successive promotions.

But a bad start will not do him any favours.

Bloody hell, could you imagine the electricity between Di Canio and NC? You could probably power a town the size of Winchester off it.

Not saying it was his fault as it was a powerful strike, but he maybe could have done better for their goal. It's a bit harsh but seemed a bit too close to the near post and flat footed.

are you joking, if kelvin got to know his near post better then we may have a 100% record

However, given this isn't a thread about Paolo Di Canio, its not really relevant is it?

Really?

I'm always critical of keepers.

With Kelvin he got beat at his near post by Tevez. I dont think he could have done better by taking a step left. He should have come out a bit further to narrow the angle. He gave Tevez a lot to shoot at.

The 2nd and 3rd goal he couldn't do any more with imo.

The first goal from Wigan he had the right angles and it was blasted into the roof of the net. Easy to sit back after the goal and say he should have stood tall, but then he would have looks silly if it went past his foot.

The second Wigan goal, again he gave the player a lot of the goal to shoot at. He stuck to his line for too long. He should have stayed put and then as the player got about 20 yards out, move forward.

I don't blame Kelvin for these goals, just saying what extra he could have done.

As for the goal last night, as I said I don't blame Gazza at all. I just think he was a franction too close to his near post. If he was slightly further to his right he still should have the near post covered, and would have got closer (if not saved) that shot.

I think a lot of GKs are so concious of getting beat at their near post they stick a bit too close to it.

I thought he did OK last night. I did worry about his positioning for their free kick which hit the bar early on, he was badly caught out. A little jittery perhaps overall. Short range passing was good.

He was pulling out some dramatically exciting saves in the warm up though.

Sounds like Golden Balls should be our first choice keeper!

Why even bring this up?

Did you read the whole comment? I'm not advocating Adkins is fired, in fact I think he's the right man and should be given every opportunity to prove himself.

But our chairman may not think so if we lose a few more games.

Why bring it up? Sorry, I could have sworn this was a platform for debate.

Why did the OP give the thread such an ambiguous title?

Did you read what the thread was about? It's in the first post. It isn't Paulo Di Canio.

Ah, c'mon. Nice to have a little variety. Bloke descending onto a thread, admitting that it's not what he thought it to be, then speaks about it anyway. He was undeterred by his initial confusion. Hats off, I say!

Most definitely DID have a save to make at his near post when Richardson got turned in the 6 yard box and hesitated as Haber poked the ball towards the near post. And came out and seemed to make a weird sliding tackle at one point too. Looked pretty decent, had the same problem hesitating at goal kicks that Kelvin used to as well though, takes a lot of confidence to play that pass into the midfield directly in front of goal and eventually resorted to long kicking, but that's not really a criticism of him, more the players taking too long to get open.
