No thread yet? The last game finished over an hour ago FFS!

I'm quite looking forward to this actually. I trust in Adkins to have learned a lot of lessons from the Wigan game and I hope we will get a more organised performance at least, even if the result probably wont be much better. As for the team...

Davis

Clyne

Hooiveld

*Surely, surely we will have signed a centre half before the window closes

Fox... or....

Davis

Morgan

Lallana

Mayuka

Lambert

Lee

Subs: Gazza, Fonte, JWP, Puncheon, Sharp, Rodriguez, Ramirez (dare to believe people!)

Posted

Starting Mayuka from the off? Brave! Won't happen.

Probably similar to the Wigan line up, but Guly out and Puncheon in.

That's the only change I can see, unless our new CB will start.

Really looking forward to this! Will be the first time league game* I've seen a game at St Mary's since they sent us down so would be great to get some revenge!

I reckon we'll win 2-0 with Higginbotham (does he still play for us?!) and that Lambert guy scoring! Can't wait to see RVP for United - he's class!

*Just to clarify, I've been to a couple of FA cup games against United too so I'm not a complete plastic who only goes to the big Prem games.

Lee won't start. Didn't do enough tonight.

As we won tonight, let's stick with a winning team (only joking)!

I guess Guly's brush with the law will mean he's out and I'd rather see Puncheon or Lee start, anyway. If Ramirez is signed in time, he'll surely be in contention, as will Mayuka, but unless we get a CB in early enough, I reckon the rest of the team will be the same.

Wonder if Lambert will start, or maybe Jay Rod will get to play up the middle and Ricky plays the super sub role again.

Think this game is perfect for Lambo.

Do all Scousers hate Mancs?

Well for me this is the game for Lambert to shine - he'd love to score a couple against this lot.

We need to get to the by-line and get it back to him - sounds easy but United's defence is all over the place!

I predict a decent result!

Coming down from Kent with my 13yr old for this one.

Tickets hav'nt come thro' post yet.........getting nervous

Even tho' its a big day out I'd prefer a scruffy draw to wonderful loss like Man City

Go for it, 442 at home, two big lads up front, Chaplow and Adam either side of Morgan and Davis. Keep it simple. do what we do best.

and get behind the team FGS!!

Given alll the fuss about our move to 4-3-3, it's interesting to note that united usually play 4-4-2, though they occasionally switch to 4-5-1 depending on the opposition.

Looking forward to seeing Lambert bully Carrick filling in at CB.

Johnny Evans is going to be back in with Carrick moving back into midfield.

got a feeling they will come out in grey shirts

Whatever they do wear, when we take the lead, it has got to be a reprise of the classic "have you got another kit?" chant.

Team from Saturday with Puncheon in for Guly. Anyone new will only make the bench if they sign in time. Stick the ball in the box and we'll cause problems against flappy De Gea and their makeshift back line, so I'm hopeful of snatching something.

First match of the season for me. (Yes it's against Man U but I can't help my shifts.) Kingsland was all sold out so I've had to opt for a spot behind the goal in the Chapel. Apparently I have one of those faces you want to punch, so I'm hoping to distract the Man Utd strikers enough that they consistantly aim at me instead. (I'll wear a balaclava when Saints attack in the second half.)

Too soon for this week's signings? Perhaps, but I hope they make an appearance anyway.

We will surely start with our existing back 5, whoever we sign.

Think team will be;

01 K Davis

02 Clyne

05 Hooiveld

06 Fonte

13 Fox

04 Schneiderlin

08 S Davis

20 Lallana

42 Puncheon

07 Lambert

09 Rodriguez

With Lee and Mayuka likely to come on (unless we are comfortably ahead) after about 60 mins.

Sharp on for a bit a glory to complete the victory and improve our goal difference at the end!

I think we'll lose 3-1 but I feel we'll have some good chances but RvP's finishing will put us to the sword.

Really wouldnt be surprised to see Mayuka start as he is very much an unknown entity and use his pace v someone like Evra and Vidic and he may unsettle them quite a bit.

Not even sure if he is in the country. Bench at least but would be slightly surprised if he did start.

I thought the same, SSN says that it will be a stroll in the park for MU. Our entire team cost only slightly more than they paid for Robin van Persie...(!)

Great !.....now there's confidence for you...but .get ready for the abuse coming at you Nick.

We're gonna get another lesson I'm afraid as we're not up to the pace yet, that is unless we get to play 1-2 of the new wide forwards and JayRod sits it out. RVP will show some class. 0-3 to the Mancs I suspect. We're not the Saints of old - sometimes that's very good, however we're not ManUre's bogey team anymore.

This was one game I really want to win this season! really hope we can get a win but a draw will do. no doubt buttner will be booed everytime he gets the ball? (could work in our favour as he might make a mistake)

Every time I've seen Evans he looks a complete donkey to me but maybe Ferguson knows more than me!!

Surely not... don't be so hard on yourself! Agree though, Evans is the new John O'shea.

Cazzo! It's on Sky over here but Udinese-Juve starts an hour afterwards and most bars aren't going to let me watch the second half, so back home for a dodgy online version...

I've taken my lad to see various teams over the years at St Mary's (he is 13 now). Cardiff, Barnsley, Tranmere Rovers, Norwich.......but now I am taking him to see Saints vs Man Utd................COYR!

Not sure who is the most excited!

I'm hoping to see Mayuka come on as a sub, put us 3-0 up and do a triple back flip right under Fergie's nose!

A reminder, courtesy of @SaintsStats on twitter, that on this day in 2003, this happened:

One of the few home games I've ever missed.

Was sat in Spain watching it with a family of Man Utd fans who we'd made friends with at the hotel. The pub errupted when that goal went in as the game afterwards was Man City Vs Arsenal (I think) and their fans had already filled the pub.

Happy memorys.

Bizarrely I shall be in the same pub in Leigh as I was that afternoon all those years ago. Seem to remember that I wasn't the only person cheering BT's goal fortunately.

It has a good track record for me, other games I have watched in there whilst back on leave were Saints V Spurs 4-3, was it Easter early KO? By the time the final whistle went I'd lost track of what the score was due to beer consumption, for a while I was under the impression it was 4-4 for some unknown reason!!

Also witnessed the 5-1 England v Germany gae. So fingers crossed the good run continues.
