We'd have been too busy wrapping up 4 signings on Thursday night to have played a meaningless cup game. Good decision.

Of course we did the sensible thing, had it been Wednesday then fair enough, but players like Sharp & Puncheon who will probably be in the 18 on Sunday could have potentially played 120 minutes just three days before.

Speaking of this game and TV, are there going to be any highlights on terestrial TV?

 

There always used to be highlights during the week of Carling Cup ties back in the day, couldn't see anything in the schedules for this week though.

Maybe this was an opportunity to let some clubs see our 2nd string who are available for transfers.

There would have more disruption to the preparations for the 1st team training for the Man Utd game. Adkins and 1st team coaching staff wouldn't be back in Southampton until early Friday morning and wouldn't be able to do proper 1st team training on Thursday. Plus about five of the team tonight have a good chance of being in matchday 18 for the Man Utd game. With it being played tonight it allows those involved to recover tomorrow and the coaching staff can hold proper training on Thursday, Friday and Saturday.

The reason we turned down sky was because the club have got better things to be doing with 1 day of the tranasfer window left than having to play a match that we dont care about, as well as catering to a bunch of journalists getting in the way.

What are you on about? I'm just pointing out that £100k Stevenage would have got is a lot of money to them, which it is. It wasn't that long ago we were desperate for a few quid so just showing a bit of empathy for clubs who need money. If it was us then I'm sure a lot on here would be going nuts at the arrogant club refusing us greatly needed money.

Ahhh, so the highlights are on Thursday, didn't think to look that far ahead in the schedules, I assumed that they would be on tonight or tomorrow.

Right decision - We obviously need to put ourselves in first and foremost, massive game sunday and we've now got another 2 days to prepare for it. Would have been nice for them to get their £100k but it's not the end of the world.

Yes it is a shame. But we need to put ourselves first and that's what we've done. They'll get over it (they probably already have).
