Stewart Downing...

Downing is better than the stick he gets tbh

A massive transfer fee and a poor manager in Kenny unfortunately have killed him, buy him ? No loan him ? Yes

As per Sinclair, I see city as a poor move for him, he wont play much, but players move for mOney not sense, no chance of saints getting hom this year though.

Oh, because your post insinuated that he wasn't 'quality'.

In fact, that's exactly what it meant:

"DPS, i thought you wanted saints to sign "quality".."

for the money...I don't think he is worth it...he is decent IMO...but not worth it unless liverpool ask us and pay half his wages.

judge for yourself where I rank his quality in that

And that's fair enough. It's not difficult to write something without trying to be antagonistic.

Personally, I think a loan deal for a season would be an excellent offer to make if he is available (as a lot of the papers seem to be making out). He probably would go to a bigger side than us though.

Whilst thinking about what footballers get paid makes me want to cry, specially when you have just found out you are going to be unemployed again in the very near future (anyone hiring?), can you really blame them?

Sinclair is what, 22/23 ( I'm not sure and cba to look it up), so roughly my age - I for one would certainly find it very hard to turn down such money, would everyone else not? Same for people like Downing et al not wanting to take wage cuts, yes they probably are over-paid. But, if someone is willing to offer you it, who would really turn it down on principle? The contract offers these young men get in these cases will set them up for life, are probably are once-in-a-lifetime opportunities that in reality are probably next to impossible to turn down when put on the table in front of you.

It's sad that it has come to that, but, can we really moan when we buy the tickets/shirts/sky packages that fund it all?

Agreed, but these guys earn more than they will ever need, the wages are simply stunning in many cases and bare in mind that their reported weekly wage is AFTER tax.

For me yes, I would want to earn good money but equally would want to make my mark and be tge best I can be.

I cant see how sitting on a bench somewhere would achieve this.

Its different if your going to still be playing, for instance Kaka to real being questioned if his move was money oriented as it probably mainly was, but to earn money and not even playing ?

No wouldnt be for me that

All depends on whether you would value playing football over the biggest weekly pay packet you can get your hands on. Of course it may also be the case that Sinclair actually believes that he can start ahead of Silva, Nasri, Milner etc on a regular basis.

The way I see it is, what can you buy with 70K a week which you couldn't buy when you were getting 40K a week?

It's a very fair point, and I don't disagree at all. BUT, I'm sure it is a lot harder to turn down when it's actually 'on the table' (as it were) right in front of you.

That's true but for now I will enjoy taking the moral high ground and pretend that if it were me, I'd always choose football and end up a very rich man anyway!

I really don't rate Downing, but he'd probably do a decent job for a club at our level. The problem with him is that he lacks any real pace to beat a player, seems very predictable and slow in his play.

He did alright at Villa I guess, but wasn't ever one of their stand out players. A decent winger with a good cross on him, but pretty much your typical over-priced average english player.

No. He's 28 years old now and on the downturn of his career. He plays in a position that requires pace and he'll be getting slower as the years have gone by. We'd likely only get a year or two of top level service out of him, his career then will probably see him changing positions and moving inside rather than on the wing. £7M and £40K a week would be an enormous sum to pay for someone like that.

He's twenty freakin 8 FFS. A few years ago 28 was considered the beginnings of a player's prime and you would've been correct but surely with sports science As it is and diet etx etc, that period lasts a whole lot longer.

Agreed as elsewhere though, aint going to happen and like s-Clarke says another one of those one season wonder wingers that fail to live up to expectations once snapped up by the big boys

Not for me I'm afraid

Flatters to deceive, shone at Boro when surrounded by mediocrity, never performed for England (which should have been the fluorescent graffiti).

On the Liverpool training ground allegedly pure dynamite scoring "Worldy's" assists aplenty, I appears that if you stick him in front of a whopping great big crowd the lad gets stage fright!!

We don't need potential passengers.
