THINWHITEDUKE Posted 29 August, 2012 Share Posted 29 August, 2012 On the face of it looks like a good signing offering us something we don't have and further strengthening our group of players. I lookd for ward to Ramirez and a couple of defenders signing and then we are sorted. Happy with this. This !!!

WealdSaint Posted 29 August, 2012 Share Posted 29 August, 2012 A good signing, we desperatly need pace up front. We are allowed to name 7 on the bench I think so i can still see a role for Billy Sharp Ramirez + 1CB +1LB and I will be over the moon
Dalek2003 Posted 29 August, 2012 Share Posted 29 August, 2012 The player that I am most intrigued about in the PL is tadanari Lee, he will either be a big hit or a flop. We MUST get the CB, LB and possibly GK sorted, although I think Gazza could do it in the PL if Davis stumbles.

What concerns me about Lee is a lot of our fans have built him up into some sort of footballing god whilst he's been injured based on a couple of decent performances in the championship. Some claiming he is going to be a big star for us. He may struggle to live up to the hypes simply because a lot are expecting so much.

corky morris Posted 29 August, 2012 Share Posted 29 August, 2012 Looking forward to seeing the lad develop. We badly needed pace & he can provide it. Well, because of his injury we did not really get to see lee on a regular basis. We know he is fast and we need that in attack so with our new signing that should help. We have lots of good strikers and some of them very young. In thoery we should do well but we still look weak at the back and hate to say it I am not sure about KD at this level. I have a feeling Gazzaz could be OK but it is a gamble.
Under Weststand Posted 29 August, 2012 Share Posted 29 August, 2012 Surely we are looking to change the way we play formation wise? The way I see it we are looking to go more towards the Man City/ Barca style of quick paced quick feet quick of thought player. With a front three who are not rigid but move all over the pitch and are comfortable doing it. With Mayuka in & looking as though Ramirez then with either one of Ricky, Sharp & long term Rodriguez then we have that IMHO. What is not to be happy about that? Ricky doesn't need speed he seems drift around easily. Rodriguez is Ricky's long term replacement. Sharp gives you the poachers instinct impact sub for me. Yes we all know that we need to sort out the defence I'm sure that come Friday we will have that in place. But that it for a different thread. Once again welcome aboard Mayuka good signing for me. He is what we've been crying out for. So we sort out a problem area & still people moan go figure!

Not so much a test of his mental strength but is he actually as good as people think he is? We've seen him against a very poor Derby side and against a couple of average championship sides. He looked very good, but ss we all know there is a big difference between mid table championship sides premier league ones. I'm concearned how much people are building him up as some sort of star when really we have seen very little of him.

All valid points Turk - my concern is that we do not have a midfielder that can see some of the runs he makes. mulletsaint Posted 29 August, 2012 Share Posted 29 August, 2012 Looks an exciting signing, hopefully he fulfills his obvious promise. I understand some people's disappointment that we still haven't signed a CB but do we really need to hear about it for the 1000th time? There's still time yet so base your opinions on what state we're in come the weekend. On the subject of our attacking options. I think it's quite easy to believe some must be on their way out but you need options in the prem and I believe we have a good mix now. Rickie has improved his game no end and is not just a target man any more. For me he really could be our Teddy Sheringham. I know pace can be important but more important still is a good football brain. Sharp is an old fashioned poacher, the type that seems to be going out of fashion but I can't see him leaving as he offers us something different and should still score goals at this level. If we want to play 4-4-2 then Sharp is a serious option for one of those two spots up front. Modern forwards are expected to have a more rounded game. It's too simplistic to state that Lee and Mayuka are wide forwards. Personally i think we're trying to buy forwards that can play anywhere across the front in a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1. For me Lee could play up top as well as as a wide forward and this new chap looks the same. I believe Adkins feels JRod can do the same. Who know's maybe in the future he will. Unfortunately the prem isn't the easiest place to learn.

Saint Charlie Posted 29 August, 2012 Share Posted 29 August, 2012 They aren't the only two people involved in signing a player. We have a 'department' And if Adkins is also given Ramirez I doubt he will care whose idea it was, he will be delighted to work with quality players - it gives him far more options. I believe anyway that Adkins will recommend areas of the team we need to improve and attributes he wants and then the Recruitment Department will find targets which fit. KelvinsRightGlove Posted 29 August, 2012 Share Posted 29 August, 2012 Welcome aboard Mr Mayuka, excited to see this guy in a Saints shirt. He looks pretty dynamic, think he will certainly cause problems and make things happen. Seems a tadd odd we are have signed him and are still in for Gaston Ramirez, specially having already broken our transfer record on JRod this summer. Very strong attack though, with different types of players, I'm really looking forward to Chung being fully-fit again, good to see him score last night. Do we reckon someone is on their way out? Seems an awful lot of forward players to keep happy?
Frank's cousin Posted 29 August, 2012 Share Posted 29 August, 2012 (edited) I guess part of the problem we are having with all this is that we 'are ahead of schedule' - just a thought but as we look at the ages of the current signings and those such as WP and LS etc, + the signings of Ramirez (hopefully) and Mayuka, Rodrieges, clyne etc - and with players like Lee and Adam, spiderman etc still with their best to come... its pretty clear we have a side of potential - especially clear when you see us moving towards more dynamic modern styles like 4231 etc - place the squad against this and we seem to building to have at least 2 in each of those positions that are still in their development - if we get Ramierez and a CB or 2 and believe LS will be Left back of choice in a couple of years - then IMHO, that is a young squad that could do something really good within a couple of years - the problem many have identified is that will it be able to do enough within the this and next season to stay up? Think how you feel about the current signings for the most part depends on how worried we are by relegation, the chance of it or the impact on the club financially and in terms of developing this squad. Positives for me are that we seem to be following the strategy - good young players with potential that can play a modern dynamic style eg 4231, who should develop as a unit and play as they gain experience of each other and familiarity of their roles - and possibly play the exciting and entertaining brand of football that has been alluded to.... the only negative as far as I can see is that we may not have the time within the next 36 games for the 'plan' to come together... Still much rather we are doing what we are doing, than buy a bunch of journeymen playing 442 at home and 451 away - that would be reactionary and short termist. Viking Warrior Posted 29 August, 2012 Share Posted 29 August, 2012 one thing is for sure among are fickle fans is that even if we signed the best two players in the world there will be those on here who would find a reason to moan about them Such is life COYS PS There has not been a lot of transfer activity amongst the other premier clubs either over the summer. We probably have been one of the busiest. although I have not done any research
