Don't like the sound of this....

Meanwhile, Southampton are ready to sign Zambia striker Emmanuel Mayuka - who is a personal favourite of club chairman Nicola Cortese.

Saints have pushed ahead of QPR in the chase for Mayuka, who has caught the eye of Swiss-born Cortese while playing for Switzerland's Young Boys club, and are willing to pay him more than the Londoners are.

Mayuka will cost around £3million and needs a work permit, but should be cleared to arrive before the window shuts on Friday night.

Was he born in Switzerland? Even if, he's otherwise Italian. And he's been in Southampton for the last 3 years!

Tenuous....

Heard about this from a source a while back - And was very excited! knew my usual smiley wouldn't do it, and tried to drop enough hints - See if you can see through my super secret spy code! http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?39465-Matt-Phillips-%A36m-official-bid&p=1446323#post1446323

Do you know if/when Ramirez will ever sign? ;)

Another striker? any chance he can play CB as well? I'm really not sure forwards are where we need strengthening but hey maybe he's the next Demba ba or something.....

Everyone said we needed pace in the final third. This will give us pace in the final third. Job done.

CB's will come as well, lots of things happening.

Maybe then, but I'm sure Adkins would have some input too.

Plus the other members of the recruitment team - looks exciting and a totally different option to what we have. Of course, he might not necessarily start all the time but is another squad option and will mean our team/bench looks a lot stronger.

Now for Ramirez and a CB.

Simon Peach is reporting that the work permit is sorted

From the OS:

The Zambia international has already been granted a work permit by the Home Office and Saints are now awaiting entry clearance for the deal to be fully ratified, which is expected to happen before the end of this week

I never get this, as far as I can tell Cortese is Italian. Seems a lot of people think he is Swiss. Perhaps he is, can't find anything definitive either way.

Meh. Signing six additional attacking players in 8 months no defenders and 1 GK hints at something not being well.

We needed pace up top, we've got it. What's there to moan about?

CB's will come in. Multiple deals can happen at any one time.

Neither do I.

There are no quotes in that article to back up the claim that we've signed him just because Cortese liked him - with the implication that Adkins doesn't have much to do with it. More likely some journo saying "Ah, he plays in Switzerland and Cortese's Swiss. That's why!" But, even if it were true, I'm quite sure that Cortese is not so stupid as to sign a player without seeking the opinions of the manager and scouting team.

This is laughable. Why are we signing more 'inexperienced' players in positions where we have plenty of options? I hope he proves me wrong but he hardly has the sort of experience that we need in the Premier league. I'm also getting increasingly concerned at how NA intends on keeping everybody happy.

Oh, and how about we sign some ****ing defenders who can hack it at this level. PLEASE!

If Lee, Rodriguez and Sharp arent the players we need we shouldnt have signed them.

Lee, Rodriguez, Lambert and Sharp will all play a part. We need them all.

This guy comes in as an alternative to what we don't have at the moment.

I honestly don't know what's hard to understand about that. We're improving the squad by adding something EVERYONE was saying we lacked.

Come on.

He was the golden boot winner at the 2012 African Cup of Nations, helping Zambia to win the competition and has 36 caps at the age of 21 years old. Does that not indicate a good level of competence?

Just smacks of someone playing with a train set to me. Too much competition for places in one area and almost none in another. Not a recipe for happy bunnies or success imo. Hope it changes.

We finally bring in someone with pace, more adapt to the formation we now play and you decide to bring this strange viewpoint to the table?

Adkins obviously read tonight's match thread and saw how our second string is so weak. Should be stronger now.

Will definitely add something we don't have at the moment and that is pace. Pace frightens defenders. Wouldn't be surprised to see one forward moved on before the weekend though. Possibly Sharp, though I hope not. All our players will play a part but going to be tough keeping them all happy. Sign Ramirez and 2 defenders and we have the squad to stay up.
