Wade Garrett Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Looks an OK replacement for De Ridder... The same De Ridder who was 'injured' tonight?
itchen_dan Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Don't like the sound of this.... http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/aston-villa-transfer-news-rickie-1283963 Meanwhile, Southampton are ready to sign Zambia striker Emmanuel Mayuka - who is a personal favourite of club chairman Nicola Cortese. Saints have pushed ahead of QPR in the chase for Mayuka, who has caught the eye of Swiss-born Cortese while playing for Switzerland's Young Boys club, and are willing to pay him more than the Londoners are. Mayuka will cost around £3million and needs a work permit, but should be cleared to arrive before the window shuts on Friday night.
Ivan Katalinic's 'tache Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Wonder if Radhi's secret mission was anything to do with Mayuka's eventual signing?
S-Clarke Posted 28 August, 2012 Author Posted 28 August, 2012 What's not to like the sound of there? He's a chairmans signing, so will Ramirez. If he can get us the required quality then so be it.
Dibden Purlieu Saint Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 No idea who he is or how good he is, but he is a new signing, so huzzah!

And he's been in Southampton for the last 3 years! Tenuous....
Dig Dig Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 No idea who he is or how good he is, but he is a new signing, so huzzah! Sounds very good and different to what we already have. Will be a much better option to play in a front three.
aussiesaint20 Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Runs runs runs like Forteee Shoots shoots shoots like Rickie He's Zambian and he scores for fun Emmanuel Ma yu kaaaa, Emmanuel Ma yu kaaaa
Dig Dig Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Was he born in Switzerland? Even if, he's otherwise Italian. And he's been in Southampton for the last 3 years! Tenuous.... Nixon said that Cortese knows the player. Seems it be an NC signing but if he's good than who cares?
Guan 2.0 Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Heard about this from a source a while back - And was very excited! knew my usual smiley wouldn't do it, and tried to drop enough hints - See if you can see through my super secret spy code! http://www.saintsweb.co.uk/showthread.php?39465-Matt-Phillips-%A36m-official-bid&p=1446323#post1446323
Cascadia Saint Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Nixon said that Cortese knows the player. Seems it be an NC signing but if he's good than who cares? Maybe then, but I'm sure Adkins would have some input too.
SaintNeil90 Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Who changed the title to awaiting work permit confirmation... We have the work permit. We are waiting entry clearance.
doddisalegend Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Another striker? any chance he can play CB as well? I'm really not sure forwards are where we need strengthening but hey maybe he's the next Demba ba or something.....
Saint_Donovan Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Simon Peach is reporting that the work permit is sorted
Thedelldays Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Another striker? any chance he can play CB as well? I'm really not sure forwards are where we need strengthening but hey maybe he's the next Demba ba or something..... Don't we need pace out wide?

S-Clarke Posted 28 August, 2012 Author Posted 28 August, 2012 Another striker? any chance he can play CB as well? I'm really not sure forwards are where we need strengthening but hey maybe he's the next Demba ba or something..... Everyone said we needed pace in the final third. This will give us pace in the final third. Job done. CB's will come as well, lots of things happening.
Saint Charlie Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Maybe then, but I'm sure Adkins would have some input too. Plus the other members of the recruitment team - looks exciting and a totally different option to what we have. Of course, he might not necessarily start all the time but is another squad option and will mean our team/bench looks a lot stronger. Now for Ramirez and a CB.
shirleysfc Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Simon Peach is reporting that the work permit is sorted From the OS: The Zambia international has already been granted a work permit by the Home Office and Saints are now awaiting entry clearance for the deal to be fully ratified, which is expected to happen before the end of this week

buctootim Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Meh. Signing six additional attacking players in 8 months no defenders and 1 GK hints at something not being well.
InvictaSaint Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 OS says work permit already granted by HO, just waiting for entry clearance which is expected before end of week. May be involved v Man Utd...
CLOTH EARS Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Looks fast, two footed, strong and able to get in the box and score simple goals too. Like a combination of Ryan Smith, David McGoldrick and Paul Moody. **** me - I cant wait then!
VectisSaint Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Was he born in Switzerland? Even if, he's otherwise Italian. And he's been in Southampton for the last 3 years! Tenuous.... I never get this, as far as I can tell Cortese is Italian. Seems a lot of people think he is Swiss. Perhaps he is, can't find anything definitive either way.
Matthew Le God Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Meh. Signing six additional attacking players in 8 months no defenders and 1 GK hints at something not being well. Signing Clyne? The emergence of Shaw? Adkins saying he intends to sign one or two centre backs before the deadline?
VectisSaint Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Meh. Signing six additional attacking players in 8 months no defenders and 1 GK hints at something not being well. I've heard we are bringing in Kevin Keegan as defensive coach.
S-Clarke Posted 28 August, 2012 Author Posted 28 August, 2012 Meh. Signing six additional attacking players in 8 months no defenders and 1 GK hints at something not being well. We needed pace up top, we've got it. What's there to moan about? CB's will come in. Multiple deals can happen at any one time.
Dig Dig Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Maybe then, but I'm sure Adkins would have some input too. I'm sure the entire panel have input. Ultimately, if a player is quality then I don't really care where the targets come from
Turkish Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 We needed pace up top, we've got it. What's there to moan about? CB's will come in. Multiple deals can happen at any one time. We can only do one deal at a time. We need to get moving on the next one now.
itchen Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Neither do I. There are no quotes in that article to back up the claim that we've signed him just because Cortese liked him - with the implication that Adkins doesn't have much to do with it. More likely some journo saying "Ah, he plays in Switzerland and Cortese's Swiss. That's why!" But, even if it were true, I'm quite sure that Cortese is not so stupid as to sign a player without seeking the opinions of the manager and scouting team.
buctootim Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Just smacks of someone playing with a train set to me. Too much competition for places in one area and almost none in another. Not a recipe for happy bunnies or success imo. Hope it changes.

buctootim Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 We needed pace up top, we've got it. What's there to moan about? If Lee, Rodriguez and Sharp arent the players we need we shouldnt have signed them.
Sidney Fudpucker the 3rd Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 This is laughable. Why are we signing more 'inexperienced' players in positions where we have plenty of options? I hope he proves me wrong but he hardly has the sort of experience that we need in the Premier league. I'm also getting increasingly concerned at how NA intends on keeping everybody happy. Oh, and how about we sign some ****ing defenders who can hack it at this level. PLEASE!
Thedelldays Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 If Lee, Rodriguez and Sharp arent the players we need we shouldnt have signed them. Why not? How Do you evolve as a club when you get promoted so quickly?
S-Clarke Posted 28 August, 2012 Author Posted 28 August, 2012 If Lee, Rodriguez and Sharp arent the players we need we shouldnt have signed them. Lee, Rodriguez, Lambert and Sharp will all play a part. We need them all. This guy comes in as an alternative to what we don't have at the moment. I honestly don't know what's hard to understand about that. We're improving the squad by adding something EVERYONE was saying we lacked. Come on.

K,Billy's supersound Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 was hoping we would sign him, glad we now have as i think he can do well for us. certainly better than jrod out wide left has done so far.

He was the golden boot winner at the 2012 African Cup of Nations, helping Zambia to win the competition and has 36 caps at the age of 21 years old. Does that not indicate a good level of competence?

We finally bring in someone with pace, more adapt to the formation we now play and you decide to bring this strange viewpoint to the table?
ottery st mary Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 MAYUKA.....a CROSS BETWEEN...Rod and Danny Wallace...Nathan Dyer and Theo Walcott.. This lad is World Class:D Along with Ramirez , Lee, Rikkeee and OUR Adam..
Bensfcno1 Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Mayuka woooo, mayuka woo, He comes from Zimbabwe, He'll win the ball and run away!

Saint Charlie Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Some absolutely moronic comments on here tonight. We are crying out for pace in our front three....
Saint Garrett Posted 28 August, 2012 Posted 28 August, 2012 Will definitely add something we don't have at the moment and that is pace. Pace frightens defenders. Wouldn't be surprised to see one forward moved on before the weekend though. Possibly Sharp, though I hope not. All our players will play a part but going to be tough keeping them all happy. Sign Ramirez and 2 defenders and we have the squad to stay up.
S-Clarke Posted 28 August, 2012 Author Posted 28 August, 2012 The people that moan about our lack of activity are the same people that are now moaning about this addition. Wums galore on this board. Sort it out mods. They're starting to run the place.
