What would they be worth now?

Having seen Jordan Henderson spazz around the pitch on numerous occasions in the past few years AND with imminent signing of Ramirez in the offing, I just wondered what some of our previous players would be valued at in todays market?

I'll begin;

Neil Maddison, £6m.

Barry Horne -£8.5m of anyone's money.

Unless you add a date or say when the player was at his peak it doesn't really make sense.

For example Le Tissier in 1994/95 was a lot better than Le Tissier in 2001/02.

I have no idea why some people dislike you. What could it be?

Richard Hall - £7.5m (when he was England under 21 player for you MLG)

WOW ..Ted Bates did do a good deal didn't he ?

Remember thinking Ted must be a taking a real risk to splash this sort of money out for a relatively unknown player.

What a bargain Big Ron turned out to be

Interesting to find out that RPI has increased by a factor of 15 between 1966 and 2012 so this accounts for the relatively modest transfer value of £800k +

Of course this is out of kilter with the actual transfer value which would certainly now be over £20m, perhaps much more, if Ron was capable of scoring as freely as he did with Saints in the 60's

Interesting to compare admission charges which have gone up by a factor of approx 120 since 1966 although most clubs benefit from decent stadia (there are some noteworthy exceptions!!)

Using same link - adult price to Milton Road terrace then - 4/6d.

Worth now £3.43.

In other words it cost the equivalent of £3.43 to attend a top flight match in 1966.

And people wonder why we couldn't sell out on Saturday.

According to this article the average wage in 1966 was £23pw - so relatively ticket prices prices are less than they were.

No, sorry that doesn't work.

Average wage now is about £500 a week - or around 22 times what it was in 1966.

Therefore as the price of admission in 1966 was about 23p, relatively it should now be 22 times 23p = £5.06.

I think we'd have sold out on Saturday if the tickets were a fiver each.
