S-Clarke Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 Nice. 2 CB links in one evening. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-transfer-news-saints-prepare-1281645?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter
CB Fry Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 Ten appearances for Ajax. Five million quid. Jees. We are definitely Premier League.
krissyboy31 Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 Simon Peach @SimonPeach #SaintsFC reportedly lining up Ajax's Nicolai Boilesen for £5million. Highly-rated defender, who has been linked to Inter & Arsenal.
Aura Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 He is a LB witch we still need anyway would be good signing this one
Badger Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 Left back according to Wiki and an article saying Newcastle were after him in May.
goneawol Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 (edited) Left back according to Wiki and an article saying Newcastle were after him in May. http://nothingbutnewcastle.com/2012/05/blogs/newcastle-after-dane-who-turned-down-manchester-united Boilesen started his career at Brondby before moving onto Ajax in 2010, and in his two seasons in Holland has only managed a dozen or so appearances for the senior side at the Amsterdam-based club. That’s largely due to injury, with Boilesen tearing his hamstring back in September. That kept him out for around five months and is still causing him trouble, so Newcastle would have to give him a a thorough medical if they were to make a move for him Edited 26 August, 2012 by goneawol
supersonic Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 I think he's more of a left-back that can play centre-back too - bit like Silvestre or Abidal and is probably Ajax's first choice left-back now Anita hs been sold to Newcastle
S-Clarke Posted 26 August, 2012 Author Posted 26 August, 2012 That video shows him as an attacking, rampaging left back. Looks like a complete upgrade on Fox. Looks like we're still in the market for that type of player then.
Mattio Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 He's good in Football Manager, he's my back up LB in my Premier League leading Saints team
hypochondriac Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 Encouraging that we are getting all these links to defenders. I'm started to be more encouraged that we will get in the necessary quality (and quantity!) of players to ensure survival this year. Lets hope we pull at least three of these off!
Olallana Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 Don´t know enough of this guy, but if he´s more a LB rather than CB I for one would prefer Olsson. Safer choice, perfect age and PL experienced.
Saint Charlie Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 A guy on Twitter says he put this on football rumours a couple of days ago and wonders if the Mirror have taken it from there...it's about their level. Looks a very intriguing player....

Looks a very intriguing player.... Nixon has been spot on and doesnt he work for the mirror?
S-Clarke Posted 26 August, 2012 Author Posted 26 August, 2012 Didn't the mirror post an article last week about how they source their transfer rumours? It's all from contacts close to the player, agent, club - some planted for whatever reason, but they don't pick it up from football rumours. We've scouted holland heavily over the last 2 years, so can be sure there is probably something in this.
MOSaint Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 Nixon has been spot on and doesnt he work for the mirror? Yeah, but the author of this piece is credited as "Mirror Football"
Saint Charlie Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 Nixon has been spot on and doesnt he work for the mirror? Yes but this isn't one of his stories and has no name attached. I would be very dubious until another source reported it. Doesn't say we have bit either, just that we are preparing too.
Badger Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 Looks too good on the clips, and is too young and promising for Ajax to let go in my view. Unless they are strapped for cash, but with potential Champions League campaign it seems unlikely.

Unless they are strapped for cash, but with potential Champions League campaign it seems unlikely. Funnily enough I thought the early clips showed a decided tendency to go to ground a little too easily, but you can't really tell with this kind of thing.
Saint Charlie Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 Simon Peach seems to think he's available for whatever reason. He was just highlighting the Mirror report.
Badger Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 (edited) Simon Peach seems to think he's available for whatever reason. Well, good if he is. Don't we have a Dutch journalist contact now, on the back of the Buttner & Lens sagas ? Perhaps one of our twitterers can sound him out. Edited 26 August, 2012 by Badger
Lighthouse Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 Ten appearances for Ajax. Five million quid. Jees. We are definitely Premier League. Chelsea are apparently willing to pay something similar for Shaw who is yet to make a senior appearances, other than a couple of sub appearances in the cup. Walcott played 13 senior games before Arsenal paid £12m for him. I guess if you've got clubs are willing to take a gamble, regardless of experience.
hypochondriac Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 We're clearly going for youngsters but am I the only one that would quite like an older head in there? Obviously will be pleased to sign quality (seemingly) like this.
Badger Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 Funnily enough I thought the early clips showed a decided tendency to go to ground a little too easily, but you can't really tell with this kind of thing. Fell with style though, befitting a £5m player.
The9 Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 I'm not keen to revisit the last left back we signed from Ajax, but he drove a Hummer, nearly moved in next door to me, and was described as "clumsy" by an Ajax fan I spoke to at Euro 2004. As well as hoofing at Crouch at every opportunity and refusing to play in the Championship.
The9 Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 Fell with style though, befitting a £5m player. I meant the last ditch lunge that nearly conceded an own goal really...
Badger Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 I meant the last ditch lunge that nearly conceded an own goal really... Fair point, I'll watch it again. or ask one of my sons for the FM profile etc.
pangy Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 I know YouTube vids count for nothing but he looks decent, exactly the type of full back we need, a lot of those clips were in the last 20-30 mins of a game and he was still bursting down the wings,he may well of been a sub though so there is no telling. I would be excited about this signing if it has any legs
The9 Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 Fair point, I'll watch it again. or ask one of my sons for the FM profile etc. I wouldn't worry about it, it's one clip from one video.
Dig Dig Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 I signed him on FIFA 12. Gets to 87. You don't need to know anymore.
Lets B Avenue Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 I signed him on FIFA 12. Gets to 87. You don't need to know anymore. I have no idea what that means, but he was cr ap in my subbuteo game.
alpine_saint Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 Nice. 2 CB links in one evening. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/transfer-news/southampton-transfer-news-saints-prepare-1281645?utm_source=twitterfeed&utm_medium=twitter If any of them are true and its not just some sport editors lacking copy that have noted our desperation and our conjuring up names out of nowhere. I couldnt give a sh*t who we are allegedly playing footsie with, its who we sign that counts.
S-Clarke Posted 26 August, 2012 Author Posted 26 August, 2012 Not gonna happen You seem to be incredibly in the know. Who is your source? Alpine_Saint by any chance?
BlakeySFC Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 You seem to be incredibly in the know. Who is your source? Alpine_Saint by any chance? Alpine_Saint and Dalek's love child
Dig Dig Posted 27 August, 2012 Posted 27 August, 2012 I have no idea what that means, but he was cr ap in my subbuteo game. ****, subbuteo is fairly accurate, the researchers are top notch.
MOSaint Posted 27 August, 2012 Posted 27 August, 2012 Does the Eredivisie have a sticker collection? If so was his sticker a shiny because if not he can just turn around and walk the other way.
CB Fry Posted 27 August, 2012 Posted 27 August, 2012 If any of them are true and its not just some sport editors lacking copy that have noted our desperation and our conjuring up names out of nowhere. Why on earth would journalists be bothering to conjure names out of nowhere? We are talking about Southampton possibly signing a centre back or a left back. No journalist breathing air is that desperate for copy. What a world you live in.
Gingeletiss Posted 27 August, 2012 Posted 27 August, 2012 I have no idea what that means, but he was cr ap in my subbuteo game. I lol'd
SaintRichmond Posted 27 August, 2012 Posted 27 August, 2012 That video shows him as an attacking, rampaging left back. Looks like a complete upgrade on Fox. Looks like we're still in the market for that type of player then. You mean one still carrying a bad injury ?? Hope not
Saint Charlie Posted 27 August, 2012 Posted 27 August, 2012 You mean one still carrying a bad injury ?? Hope not Usual upbeat input from you. Most players have been injured before. This guy is fine now...
sammysaint Posted 27 August, 2012 Posted 27 August, 2012 Has anyone else had problems accessing website since yesterday eve my mac and ipad wont load the page, just making sure its not me, maybe its down to prepare for the super deals were doing today. Boilesen and Rameriez both to sign today
SaintRichmond Posted 27 August, 2012 Posted 27 August, 2012 Usual upbeat input from you. Most players have been injured before. This guy is fine now... Sure about that ? Sorry, I didn't realise that you knew more than what has been already reported Upbeat ??? About what ? If we sign someone who can walk without the use of a stick, I'll be upbeat then, but most players we have been so far linked with have had, or are still carrying injuries. Mind you, if you.ve still got your "I saw Charlie George play" badge, then fine
Bakovnetski Posted 27 August, 2012 Posted 27 August, 2012 wiki says he's a LB, which we also need. Luke Shaw would be off then if we sign up a younger LB. Profits to be made?
hypochondriac Posted 27 August, 2012 Posted 27 August, 2012 Luke Shaw would be off then if we sign up a younger LB. Profits to be made? \How do you figure that? If Shaw is good enough he will play.
Lazlo78 Posted 27 August, 2012 Posted 27 August, 2012 He's definitely a left back. Didn't make it to the Euros because of an injury - otherwise he would have been first choice LB for the Danish NT
Bakovnetski Posted 27 August, 2012 Posted 27 August, 2012 Shaw is supposedly our next sunshine boy who has already been noticed by the top 5 who would turn heads with salary offers. Staying with us is attractive if there is a short progression route to first team football. Put a £6 Mio 20-year old in front of you as well and that doesn't look so good. He can warm benches elsewhere for more.
