Colinjb Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 And within our own ranks. Jack Cork He has experience there, and considering our latest CB link is with a guy who has been converted to CB after traditionally being a defensive midfielder could he end up as an option to cover in this position if our transfer targets do not come to fruition?
S-Clarke Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 That should never happen. He lacks a physical presence in the middle of the park at times. If we play him as a CB in this league he will be gobbled up and spat back out again by any CF. He's a central midfielder who needs time and space on the ball to make things happen. He should never, ever be considered for CB. If a day ever comes when he is, something has gone horribly wrong.
Saint Charlie Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 Not an option really - would be bullied. Fonte is a far better centre back than Cork. He can play RB at a push but is a CM.
Lighthouse Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 He could be used as cover if we had 4 centre halves and 3 of them got injured. However I don't think anything less than 2 new signings would be sensible. I don't count Seaborne, he is completely unproven and could turn out to be another Davenport. Your thinking is a little bit Burley IMHO.

Appy Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 There is a very good reason it hasn't been considered.
This Charming Man Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 No. My reason doesn't need explaining as it should be glaringly obvious to anyone with even an ounce of footballing knowledge as to why this would be a terrible idea.
Turkish Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 And within our own ranks. Jack Cork He has experience there, and considering our latest CB link is with a guy who has been converted to CB after traditionally being a defensive midfielder could he end up as an option to cover in this position if our transfer targets do not come to fruition? Yes he has and he was bloody awful which is why he's never played there since.
SFC Forever Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 He is much to lightweight as he often shows in midfield.
Colinjb Posted 26 August, 2012 Author Posted 26 August, 2012 Yes he has and he was bloody awful which is why he's never played there since. Well, considering our current activity then lets hope it doesn't come to it.
supersonic Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 Absolutely no way. He hasn't played CB for a good 2 or 3 years, he's far too lightweight. He'd get murdered there in the PL
MOSaint Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 I think Goodwillie would be better anyway. With three convictions for assault under his belt he'd add a bit of physicality to the side at least.
Turkish Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 With three convictions for assault under his belt he'd add a bit of physicality to the side at least. He'd be an ideal replacement for Dan Harding in the ball boy bully role we are currently missing.
buctootim Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 With three convictions for assault under his belt he'd add a bit of physicality to the side at least. Exactly - striker, chip shop psycho and rapist. He's adaptable - CB should be no problem.
kpturner Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 And within our own ranks. Jack Cork He has experience there, and considering our latest CB link is with a guy who has been converted to CB after traditionally being a defensive midfielder could he end up as an option to cover in this position if our transfer targets do not come to fruition? So you are suggesting we weaken our midfield by playing Cork in a position where he is probably not as good as the two incumbents?
Colinjb Posted 26 August, 2012 Author Posted 26 August, 2012 So you are suggesting we weaken our midfield by playing Cork in a position where he is probably not as good as the two incumbents? No, i'm suggesting that if our transfer dealings do not happen as we all desire then aside from Danny Seaborne, he is the only player we have with experience of playing centre back at any competitive level. I wouldn't be surprised to see him play there, although I hope it doesn't come to that.
Neil Posted 26 August, 2012 Posted 26 August, 2012 Isn't Seaborne a little bit quicker than Fonte and Hooiveld? In which case, he may have to play soon as things. We've already squandered two games where we could have taken something (even if unexpected), and can't afford too squander many more.
