Is that tongue in cheek, or do we seriously decide who would and who would not be a decent buy based on a computer game?

Some posters on here base their entire outlook for the future of the club based on a computer game so don't be surprised.

I wouldn't comment of FIFA, but even professional scouts use the statistics in Football manager as a scoping tool on potential targets.

Football Manager is an excellent indicator of who is worth seeing and who isn't. Not failsafe but it is one of the biggest and most freely available databases of football players available on the planet.

Any decent professional footballer should be able to kick with both feet with no bother. This old fashioned 'football people' thinking of one footed footballers is way way out of date.......

Yep. And everyone left-handed should be equally capable of writing perfectly with their right hand, like in the good old days.

I think if I spent hours every day practising my writing with both hands I'd expect to be able to write with both hands pretty quickly and very competently.

It's useful for identifying who is out there and what positions they play and maybe contract info, probably notsomuch the player ratings (especially for younger players) which are notoriously subjective despite the great pains they go to to try and get them accurate.

OK, for what its worth this lad has great ability. He is very confident on the ball and is a very good tackler. I cant say that whenever i have seen him that he lacks pace, he looked fine by me and at first glance i would say this is an excellent signing and in the mould of players we are looking to bring here.

However my one reservation is his serious injury.....by all accounts he is fully recovered......i just get the feeling Barcelona are willing to sell this player because it was such a bad injury and they dont want to risk getting nothing for this player. I trust totally that if we are in for him a medical will reveal if this is a risk or not.

It was tried in the last century and didn't work then. Most people will always have a naturally stronger side, its pointless concentrating their training on their weaker side at the expense of developing the natural side.

Thanks for the summary.

Looks like if we sign him and he recovered well, he could be a good addition to the team.

Full name: Andreu Fontàs Prat

Squad No: 26

Position: Center back

Date of birth: 14 November 1989

Place of birth: Banyoles, Spain

Height: 1.86 m (6 ft 1 in)

Weight: 89 kg (196 lbs)

Profile

Andreu Fontàs is a commanding center back, but he isn't only limited to that position. He can move up to play defensive midfielder and this year he proved that, if necessary, he can fill in at left back. His tackling is excellent, he struggles when he faces speedy opponents as he doesn't possess the necessary pace.

..he looks good, I suppose ....so... we change out a Fonte ...for a Fontás .....OK, but the last comment on his profile looks ominous. We have that problem already!

I vist barca every year and try to watch a game, now i have only heard good things about this guy, him tello and thigao are all b players pep felt could make the step up and was going to loan both tello and fontas out, last season and promote thigao up full time, the later he did and tello ended up getting 1st team appearances.

I think were get him on loan with a option to sign, but personally if he plays a 30 plus games for us he would show hes a top class CB.

Feedback from my pal in Spain,

Very good. I liked him last year in championship. A new puyol. Needs more minutes in first team. But with the older players in front of him he lacks of chances. Ajax wants him but he wants to stay or go to play in england. He does not rate holland to go on loan. I told him that he can get flights from barcelona to southampton almost daily...

See this guy is left footed. We need a right footed CB. Hooiveld will do a good job, it's Fonte that needs replacing.

You sure about this?

I'm still waiting for someone to honestly tell me why they always feel more comfortable about Hooiveld than Fonte. Let's not forget that if it wasn't for Silva's mental blockage Hooiveld would've been to blame for Man City taking an early lead. They are both incredibly equal.

Fontas is class and recovered from his injury. Since at Barca even missing 15 seconds of training due to a light injury can ruin your chances of breaking into the football team, our club would be a great place for him to relaunch his career and he's good enough to put pressure on both Hooiveld and Fonte to perform.

My 5 year old grandson is naturally ambidextrous, he even does colouring with 2 hands at the same time !

Maybe we should sign him up sharpish (mind you, he can only kick with his left foot, so maybe not the best for a footballer....!)

This is getting ridiculous. Fonte has been one of our outstanding players over the last two seasons. He stepped down a division to sign for us and is one of the main reasons for our recent success. Now he`s a donkey??

Fonte made 1 mistake on Saturday, which admittedly was a BIG mistake and lead to their 2nd goal. Quite frankly it made no difference to the result. We were already 1-0 down with a couple of minutes to play and we would not have scored if we had played until midnight. But hey, make 1 mistake and some dumbasses on here will call you a donkey. Presumably didn't see the heaps of mistakes that Lambert made with some awful passes. Fonte played well at Man City, Jos made 1 glaring error. In fact are 2 CBs who are not good enough for the PL have really made 2 serious errors between them in 2 games.

I couldn't disagree more. I'd make all the players do extra training to improve their weaker foot.
