Legod Third Coming Posted 26 August, 2012 Share Posted 26 August, 2012 Watched MoTD. None of them can catch the ball. They all parry it (often directly back into the box or straight up in the air). None of them come off their line. Ten years ago I would have said KD wasn't Premiership standard even at his best, but the truth is, yesterday keeper after keeper was beaten at the near post, fluffed easy saves, had the ball driven through them/under them and right by them. I'm just shocked really.
Crab Lungs Posted 26 August, 2012 Share Posted 26 August, 2012 Lighter ball has probably meant they've had to evolve somewhat..
Wade Garrett Posted 26 August, 2012 Share Posted 26 August, 2012 Lighter ball has probably meant they've had to evolve somewhat.. Tim Howard looked at fault for the Villa goal, until you saw how much the ball moved. That wouldn't have happened with the old Mitre Multiplex. I don't believe the continental keeping methods that have crept into our game are better than the methods used by our keepers up to the mid90's. I remember a time when nearly all the keepers in the top division were English and top quality. Shilton, Clemence, Corrigan, Parkes, Cooper, Rimmer, Spink, Woods, Wallington, Coton, Burridge are a few names around at a time when we had the best keepers in the world. Midfield_General Posted 26 August, 2012 Share Posted 26 August, 2012 Agree with most of those, but Burridge? Entertaining obviously because he was such a mental case, but I remember him erratic for us to say the least. Apart from anything he was about five foot six. But then Flowers came through and Lo, we had a proper keeper. I was gutted when he left. Woods was toilet for us as well (though he was good for Norwich and Rangers). Still remember his horror show when we shipped seven away at Everton. I was on a car journey with 3 non-Saints supporting friends and there was about a 15 minute spell on the radio when there were five goal flashes and every single one was that we'd conceded another one. Not sure he played for us again much after that.
The Kraken Posted 26 August, 2012 Share Posted 26 August, 2012 What's clear is the Shay Given has suddenly had a talent bypass. He was awful for a terrible Villa side.

jam Posted 26 August, 2012 Share Posted 26 August, 2012 They've coached to parry rather than catch for a few years now. Something to do with avoiding wrist injuries IIRC...
