Ampersound Posted 27 August, 2012 Share Posted 27 August, 2012 4 games 4 loses is most likely yes.. Just a typical premier league start for saints like the old days. I'm looking forward to the squeaky bum last game win to stay up.

Dazza82 Posted 15 September, 2012 Share Posted 15 September, 2012 Meh.. 1 Win and we could move up to 15th and we have played 3 hardest games we will have this season and scored 5 goals against 3 of the top
aintforever Posted 15 September, 2012 Share Posted 15 September, 2012 All this bed wetting is so predictable, it was always unlikely that we would get any points from City, Utd and Arse. The fixture computer has been very unkind to us. As I said at the start of the season, it's a nightmare start because it kills the winning mentality and puts the team under pressure from the off. Just hope Cortese doesn't wet his bed and gives Adkins a chance.
badgerx16 Posted 15 September, 2012 Share Posted 15 September, 2012 We have had worse starts - as I have posted elsewhere, in 1998 we had 0 points from the first 4 games, with a GD of -10, including 0-5 vs Charlton. We followed this by losing again and by the 9th game had only gained 2 points. At the end of that season we stayed up with 41 points.
gjphilsaint Posted 15 September, 2012 Share Posted 15 September, 2012 Played 3 of toughest games possible (includes Man C & Arsenal AWAY) the result that bothers me is the Wigan game. We know that top teams games are binuses if we collect anything at all.. but Wigan are in the same mind set as Stoke, Fulham, QPR, Norwich, Aston Villa,WBA, Sunderland & Swansea... and we would be expecting at least a 50% return from those games... so add to that how Reading & WHU do in comparison and that is our season in a nutshell. I look at the likes of Stoke (fortress team ) WBA (flair but unpredictable) Wigan (well we know now how well drilled they were), Fulham (bought well up front - will trouble us), Swansea (will the flair of the great start continue), QPR (plenty of shrewd buys and a manager who knows how to graft), Sunderland (good manager- buuilding a stronger squad)... leaves Villa and Norwich... and what about us... leaky defence... GK apparently out of his depth (again).. lets see how the new boys make their impact.... Seems like this season is going to be a very hard one.... what would be the impact of a Villa loss??? VectisSaint Posted 15 September, 2012 Share Posted 15 September, 2012 3 points down on where I expected us to be. Its not great but things can only get better and I'm confident they will. As long as we don't play as badly as we did against Wigan against some of the lesser teams we will be alright, but lets not kid ourselves, we will ship a few goals until the end of the year, just hope we score more, could be fun, and at the end of the day if we go down fighting then all is not lost. If I could be bothered I would trawl through the tinternet and try and find a story or two about us finishing second in the league behind Liverpool or the signing of keegan......they were glorious times but they also have no relevance to our current predicament
gonzo Posted 15 September, 2012 Share Posted 15 September, 2012 We've played 4, lost 4. To be honest, it's not a great surprise. We've had just about the toughest start possible. However, we gave Man City and almighty scare and were very unlucky to lose against Man Utd. The manner of the drubbing against Arsenal is certainly a cause for concern - the stats on BBC said we had only 30% possession in addition to the scoreline. But I certainly don't want to see Adkins sacked. He's done a sterling job just getting us to the Premier League and that shouldn't be forgotten. Yes, we've had a bad start but it was only 3 and a bit years ago we were looking at no SFC altogether. I think it just puts a little perspective on things. RobM Posted 15 September, 2012 Share Posted 15 September, 2012 If the performances and results against Man City, Man Utd and Arsenal were exactly the same, but were spread over the course of the season rather than being in our first four games, I'd bet people wouldn't be crying quite so much. It's just because they are the first four and we are bottom of the league that people are so upset. Before the start of the season, nobody would have bet on us winning these games and few would even bet on a draw.

badgerx16 Posted 15 September, 2012 Share Posted 15 September, 2012 Out-of-contract? (I'm getting desperate now). Don't worry, our next 4 games will not be as difficult as the 4 we've just played.
red&white56 Posted 15 September, 2012 Share Posted 15 September, 2012 Still glad to be in the PL, but a bit concerned about shipping 6 goals - even away to Arsenal - it's still painful and a worry.
Golac's Cunning Stunts Posted 15 September, 2012 Share Posted 15 September, 2012 Don't worry, our next 4 games will not be as difficult as the 4 we've just played. Next 2 games don't look easy. Villa beat a good Swansea side today and Everton look to be a very good side, particularly at home - they have the players who could easily rip us another good one. Goodison Pk has been the scene of some bad days for us. Personally, I think we will be ok but we have some rough times to get through right now. Saints Warrior Posted 15 September, 2012 Share Posted 15 September, 2012 Saints are in same position as Bradford, odds on for drop so just got to get on with each game. Surley we cant be as bad as Bradford with a £12m and £7m player?? You could have bought Greece let alone Bradford for that money
badgerx16 Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 (edited) Last year, in the same 4 matches, WBA gained 0 points and a GD of -9, they just didn't have them all together. ( Mind you, for balance, Bolton and Blackburn also lost all 4 ). WBA also only managed 2 points from home matches against Villa and Fulham at home and lost away at Everton and at home to Spurs and Swansea. So that's 2 points from the same opening 9 games ( other than we also have to play WBA ). Long way to go yet. Fwiw Arsenal lost at home to Wigan and Man United, and away at Man City. Mr X Posted 16 September, 2012 Share Posted 16 September, 2012 I'm 99% certain we will be above Liverpool after 4 games. Good judgement there
