View From The Top Posted 24 August, 2012 Share Posted 24 August, 2012 Looking at a 3 day break with just the missus & she has come up with these three suggestions; Berlin, Prague & Stockholm as she hasn't been to them even though I have. We've done the drinking/party thing so now it's more a case of actually remembering what we've seen & I was wondering what folk opinions are regarding the best city to visit as a couple as my recollection of all three are either blurred or fragmented. Nexstar Posted 24 August, 2012 Share Posted 24 August, 2012 Don't know about Stockholm but I'd definitely put Berlin before Prague if you're looking for more culture than nightlife.

Nightlife is a decent meal & a couple of beers now.
Thedelldays Posted 24 August, 2012 Share Posted 24 August, 2012 my mate used to live in Berlin.....loved every min of it there...can do the sightseeing too as it has (as you could imagine) a great deal of recent history
buctootim Posted 24 August, 2012 Share Posted 24 August, 2012 (edited) Both Stockholm and Berlin are well worth it (havent been to Prague). Personally I'd go for Stockholm, it feels more 'foreign' than Berlin, but everybody speaks English which takes the hassle away. Its best in the warmth of Summer or snow of winter imo. This is a lovely hotel on an island (connected by a bridge) in the centre of the city http://www.hotelskeppsholmen.com/ and had some great food (lots of whisky, reindeer and moose) here http://www.ardbegembassy.se/ . You should visit Stampen if you like Jazz or blues http://www.stampen.se/html/gallery.html. Also theres a beer and whisky festival on end September / beginning Oct. http://www.stockholmbeer.se/ Edited 24 August, 2012 by buctootim
Sergei Gotsmanov Posted 24 August, 2012 Share Posted 24 August, 2012 I know Stockholm very well. It is a very different experience and although expensive, it is not that much more than London. The food is very good even if your beer will be very expensive. I always stay at the Queens Hotel in Drottninggaten http://www.queenshotel.se/ because it is good value and right in the middle of town. To be honest Tim's hotel looks much classier but is probably more expensive. I would visit in the Summer because the winter is dark.

Frank's cousin Posted 25 August, 2012 Share Posted 25 August, 2012 Think if its a nice meal - maybe a nice quiet drink, culture and thenon for some VFTT lurvin - avoid the big Cities and do the small one - Bruge is great for that walk everywhere as well - Stockholms cool, but as is Gothenberg, but seriously perhaps not the best place if Mrs VFTT sort of thinks you starring at every second stuunninng blond is not very gentlemanly. Just got back from a 3 days in Gothenburg and it wa shot and sunny so work was a struggle given the high eye candy count! Berlin too big for the 'quiet' weekend break IMHO as cool a place as it is. Bit further afield is Grenada in Southern Spain - big on Culture and some nice Boutique hotels... etc Prague has those nice wee oldie streets and shops and things, but aggain bit big.. mcjwills Posted 25 August, 2012 Share Posted 25 August, 2012 VFTT how about Vienna a lovely place to go to if you have never been. Would recommend taking just before xmas as the missis will love the huge xmas market, whilst you drink the gluvine.

Saintandy666 Posted 25 August, 2012 Share Posted 25 August, 2012 (edited) Salzburg is really nice, but it's not got as much to do as other cities I've visited. It's nice to look at though. Vienna is definitely worth a visit too. Combine them, that's what we did. Munich 3 nights, Salzburg 1 night, Vienna 3 nights... though that was a few years ago now. Though obviously that was a family visit, so you should probably ignore me. Haven't been to any of the three cities in the title, but if I was going to choose one I'd pick Berlin. Chez Posted 26 August, 2012 Share Posted 26 August, 2012 mate of mine (Saints fan) lives in Stockholm, so been across a few times to see him. It isn't cheap, especially booze, but you knew that already. Nice place, especially when the snow goes and the sun shines. I eat at Pet Sounds the last time I went and would certainly recommend it, but you won't struggle to find top quality nosh. Some decent nights out too. Sweden is a fantastic place IMO. stev2001 Posted 26 August, 2012 Share Posted 26 August, 2012 Can't say a bad word about Stockholm except its expensive if you like drinking. I was there last week and the weather was perfect.
Chorlton Posted 26 August, 2012 Share Posted 26 August, 2012 Went to Berlin for 4 days last year, On Expedia, a decent hotel + flights was only about £400 for me & the wife. Amazing city (and very cheap for a capital), took in a Hertha match, which was possibly the best atmosphere I have ever been in for 18 euros a ticket, sausage & a beer for 3 euros in local bars, very interesting 3rd Reich Tour (Berliners never really took to Hitler, and he never took to them), the television tower, Checkpoint Charlie museum, cheap public transport and some very alternative clubs. You can't go wrong.
Draino76 Posted 27 August, 2012 Share Posted 27 August, 2012 Belin for beer. Stockholm for food. Prague for nightlife.
Orange Posted 27 August, 2012 Share Posted 27 August, 2012 I'm in Stockholm at the moment. Was quite quiet in the evening yesterday, but mabye i was going to the wrong places. Really beautiful city though, would be good for the Mrs on that front. Found it confusing as **** at first getting around, because of the islands. And its not a myth, Swedish women are amazing! Gorgiesaint Posted 27 August, 2012 Share Posted 27 August, 2012 Seville is a good shout, but if you can get a flight there then Valencia is a great place for a weekend away.
Smirking_Saint Posted 27 August, 2012 Share Posted 27 August, 2012 Reykjavik is one city break I will definately be going back to, literally so much to do and see in Iceland. Little expensive, but good food and the local booze, Gull is lovely. Personally though Id probably go when the snow had settled as I imagine the landscape isnt quite as striking during the warmer months.
