GCSE results day

It's all a bit mental in Chez Pap today. The fruit of my loins picks up her GCSE results today. She has already gone online and discovered some of them. Still sweating on the results for English Lit and History, two subjects she is really into.

Anyone else having a similarly weird day?

Wife has just headed into school to find out how her charges have gotten on.

My maths GCSE classes have ripped it up as usual.

Sorted out where you're going to uni yet?

Pap - well done on the girl's results in this year of grade deflation of all times.

Thanks shurlock, but the vast majority of the credit goes to her. I simply ensure that she doesn't have to live in a cardboard box.

Uni wise, dunno. Heard some waffle from the school about scholarships for Harvard, etc - but I think this was just to sweeten her up when she was looking at a separate sixth-form. It's her call, really but I do have this romantic notion that she'll go to Southampton and rediscover her roots. Despite her being brought up Scouse, she does have a lot of Sotonian ways by virtue of cultural osmosis.

She speaks scouse, but only really "scouses out" when mocking scallies, etc.

As far as I know, no friends called Terry or Sharon, but there is still time for that to change.

My lad got

A*

2x A's

4x B's

2xC's

1xD in media "Hmmmmm"

Got what he needed, so he is happy, he did work very hard for those results, so yes very proud of him and my eldest with her A-S results last week.

There were a few sad faces when I dropped him off.

Nice one scoobs. Very odd thing with kids at that age, isn't it? Mine was bricking it last night, especially after the downgrade announcement. I know from experience that in the grand scheme of things, GCSEs just a stepping stone to bigger and better things - yet it's everything to them.

Really pleased you nipper got what he needed. Like him, my girl was locked away in her room for months. Great to see it all pay off.

what are you going to study?

Human Sciences. It's a kind of mix between studying humans from a biological perspective and a sociological perspective. And the plan is post-graduate medicine after that, but post-graduate medicine is even harder to get into than undergraduate medicine, so we shall have to see.

That would be my ultimate aim, but as I have discovered the last couple of years, not everything is going to just go your way. All I can do is do this degree. Work hard, hopefully get a 2:1 and that should stand me in good shape for the future.

Not Brookes, Oxford Oxford. Not that there would be any shame in going to Brookes. It's an excellent uni these days. Top 50 I think.

Excellent. Can you give me a lend of your old boys network when I implement my socialist revolution?

fair play...for the jibes and pish taking...fair play

I wish I chose a different route at times....went to college but instead of going further went into the forces...served me well but I am seriously hating the job at the mo....it s terrible these days and seriously thinking of a change....but to what lol

Sure, Brookes is okay - although top 50 is hardly a sign of much. I had a mate who went there when it was Oxford Poly - but he always used to talk about his 2:1 from Oxford as though he was superior to those of us who went to red brick universities.

I can imagine it would be pretty difficult to change career in this climate as well. It's not like people just have the money to drop out and do more training/education. I'm just glad I am in education the next few years. Hopefully everything will be better in a few years, but I fear it won't be.

When Andy makes his meteoric rise to Lib Dem leader on a de-Cleggification ticket, you'll be able to say "hur, I used to bully him online when he was a teenager".

Funny times indeed, last week eldest Daughter got her A levels then tears when she realised she had just missed her 1st choice and resigned to her insurance, her UCAS was not updated so she politely contacted her first choice to ask about the UCAS update, within a short space of time she gets a reply and is instantly bouncing round the house "Congratulations, see you in September". Me in the poor house but very proud as only 12 places up for grabs.

Today youngest waiting for her English retake. She got the necessary C which keeps the door open for the next stage in her beauty empire training, thank goodness.

My boy got 3 A*s, 4 As, 4 Bs and a C. Which is a hell of a lot better than my O levels.

Yup. Exactly how I assessed junior unit #1. Even told her she'd never beat my score, because that's good motivating (with that defiant one anyways :D).

My plan for the next on is to inform her that she'll never beat her sister's score. We're all very competitive in this house.
