Terry has smacked us down as shoe ins for 20th this tear. With reading coming 12th. What a joke and to think he was one of the better England managers in my living memory. He always hated le ties I guess. Think we should give him and mark (he'll not be joining Southampton) Lawrenson some stick in a couple of weeks.

anyway I though this might give people something to read whilst we wait for Ramirez to sign. Sunderland have also bid £11m for Adam Johnson to put our £13m into perspective.

He hasn't joined yet.

This was in the Sunday Sun before they see us get beat by Man City. They'd probably have us lower now. I raised an eyebrow when I saw Reading 8 places above us tho. I raised another eyebrow seeing Stoke in 9th. Then I saw Spurs position and raised a third eyebrow. It was a very eyebrows article!

I do laugh how, when there's a negative article about Saints, the journalist/author in question is ridiculed, its speculated that he knows nothing, he only writes for a tawdry rag etc etc. Yet when there's a positive article about us its taken verbatim and without question.

Also, Adam Johnson for £11m is a bargain, one of the biggest bargains in a long time when compared to the transfer fees Downing went for and Jarvis is rumoured to be going for.

Is it though? Compared with Downing and Jarvis I guess it is, but seeing as though he's being paing over £100k/week it's not that much of a bargain. I guess it depends on how much the others are on.

Pele said if Matt le Tissier was Brazilian he'd be playing regularly in the national side.

Venables ignored le Tissier at the same time, Matty was at his peak...

Mr venables, kindly jog on.

I think he actually said that LeTiss was the only non-Brazilian who would get into the then Brazilian side. I await correction ;)

Same with Adebayor to tottenham, a £5M transfer fee is relative peanuts but it accounts for his absolutely phenomenal wages (rumoured to be around £170K per week at City).

I read somewhere City are still payin £95k of that. Mugs!

I have no idea, but cant imagine he'd be willing to take a massive pay drop. One of my mates knows his girlfriend and apparently he's on 130k/week.

They signed him as a relatively unproven youngster from Boro. Don't think he's signed a new deal since he's been there. Find it hard to believe they would offer him that kind of money straight away.

We talking bout Johnson? I'm sure he signed a new contract like the season before last.

I read this the other day not surprised Terry has got us down for being relegated. Every prediction piece I've read has us in the bottom 3 only thing that made me raise an eyebrow on this article was how high up he had Reading finish (12th WTF) .It seems as most pundits see us and Reading going backdown while WHU are staying up due to already having lots of PL players like Carlton Cole:lol:

£90k according to this. Porbably £130k including bonuses.

I remember hearing somewhere that half of his wages go to some charity in Africa or something. Can't remember the exact details.

I hadn't heard that, but it seems you're [almost] correct.

http://www.caughtoffside.com/2012/07/26/emmanuel-adebayor-wants-manchester-city-to-pay-50k-a-week-to-charity-before-agreeing-to-tottenham-switch/

Apparently he wanted City to pay his charity £50K per week for the Spurs deal to go through. Fair play to him if that's actually true and/or went through in the deal.

Cheers. Did have a quick look to see if I could find something but couldn't. Mental amounts of money. Though if Sunderland get him down to £60k, as sickening as it is to say, that's not too bad compared to what some players (with less talent) are on these days.

His charity is probably based in the Cayman Islands...

I really couldn't care less what the media and so called pundits think of us, in many cases it actually works in our favor, especially when other teams underestimate us. Last season we had a hell of a lot of pressure to maintain that consistent performance and stay at the top of the table, this season all that i expect is to survive, anything else will be a bonus.

This time last year the favourites for promotion from the Championship were Leicester and Notts Forest - as they both had ex-England managers. The likes of Venables never see beyond the top few clubs

I'd forgotten about him - I think I hate him almost as much as 'arry. Both are dodgy cockney wide-boy ****s loved by the media with reputations much bigger then their actual records

Venables is a complete w*nker - not even yesterday's man but completely-past-it man.

Terry Venables is a bigger myth than harry Redknapp.

Even as England Manager it was all a myth. Home Euro's with Shearer, Sherringham, Seaman, Adams ect pretty much at their best, and fluked past Spain (and Spain nowhere near the class they are now). Germans were pretty poor and they won the thing. Everyone bangs on about Dutch game, but both sides were pretty much through, eveidence in the fact that despite a heavy defeat they still went through. Meant to be a tactical genius, but never got anywhere near Hoddle's tactical masterclass in Italy. France & Spain's great sides had yet to emerge, Holland were in a mess and the thing was won by a very average German side. We were at home, a decent manager with the players we had and we'd have won the thing.

Prior to that he was ok. Did well at Barca, won 1 FA cup. But after that what did he do? Was shiete at Leeds, who still had a decent side.Missed out on the World cup with Australia as the mighty Iran came from 2-0 down in Aus to knock them out in a play off. Palace was a disaster, and he was Asst manager during that great Steve McClaren England spell. The only decent thing he's done is **** up the Skates after buying them for a £1 (what sort of idiot overpays by that much).

We have a pundit who has underperformed for the past 20 years, yet because he's a Jack the Lad he's seen as some sort of genius.

Good player , average Manager, Great myth............

If you notice. Brian McDermott is very well liked within the media

McDermott does come across as a decent fellow. NA does also IMO. But it's not a worry what the press think about where we are going to finish because at the end of the season I do not feel we will be relegated. Don't ask me why I just have a gut feeling. We may well flirt with relegation but I feel we'll be safe at the end.

One of the main reasons the English team **** me off is the press and most of the fans thought procees around failure/sucsess.

Sir Alf won the world cup at home, when there were only 16 teams in it. Genius, according to most. Overlooking the fact he screwed up in Mexico, making 2 subs whilst we were 2-0 up to "save their legs for the semi final". What semi final???? Screwed up in '74 qualification.

Sir Bobby.- First attempt at qualification resulted in failure '84, fluked the '86 group stages only after he was forced to leave out Wilkin's and Robson, remember he only bought Beardsley in for the last group game. Went out "heroicaly" to Argies and the handball (god forbid an Englishman would do that-apart from jack charlton in '66). Complete and utter shambles in '88, losing every game. Poor in the group stages in '90. last minute goal against Belguim in round of 16. Somehow cameron throw away a winning position in 1/4's and on to a "heroic" defeat in semi's.

venables -see above.

Sven- Losses 2 peno shoot outs in 1/4 finals, once to the hosts, yet he's a chump. Venables wins a 1/4 final peno shoot out at home-Genius, Sven losses one away-chump.

The simple truth of the matter is that if you're a "national treasure" like Sir Bobby, your patchy England record gets over looked. In the modern game, he'd have gone in '84 after not qualifing. If he lasted that, would have gone in '88 after losing every game.

Apart from Sir Alf (who ****ed up afterwards) every England Manager has underacheived, including Venners and Sir Bobby, but you wouldn't think that from the press and most England fans.

Venables only ever won two competitive games, one of which was against freaking Scotland. That Holland game was amazing but that's it.

True. By I think it will happen this week. Also look at QPR. No issues signing CB's for them. We do need to address this and I'm sure we are. Hipiwever the targets are running out.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/19334852

Don't worry about QPR. Certainties for the drop. Hughes doesn't know whether to sh** or fart. He's buying more old crocks and mercenaries to go with the ones they already have...

Calm down, it's only an opinion, At this time of year it's impossible to predict every position, I'm sure venables knows that, after predicting the top six it's a bit of a lottery, why not saints 20th? so far we have played one game and lost it.
