mightysaints Posted 22 August, 2012 Share Posted 22 August, 2012 Fantastic morning, beat the Germans at their own game of getting towels on the loungers today. I collected towels from 30 Brits and laid them out last night. So funny getting up early and watching perplex Germans and Russians not being able to get a lounger, they are royally miffed. Serves them right as most of them don't use the beds till midday

Frank's cousin Posted 22 August, 2012 Share Posted 22 August, 2012 A classic Urban Myth - created at a time when 80's TV comics used to attract 20 mil viewers on ITV on a saturday evening and wow the nation with their own brand of bigotry - As I recall, the act of reserving a sun loungers was popular amongst all europeans - just smart thinking etc - but the Germans as culprits played better with the British need to constantly try and belittle a nation that we had defeated in war only to watch their economic miracle and evolve a modern society whilst we stagnated in the 60s and 70s.... Lord Duckhunter Posted 22 August, 2012 Share Posted 22 August, 2012 (edited) A classic Urban Myth - Exactly, the British are just as bad as the Germans. This year I stayed at a resort which was all Brits, and there were some sad ****ers there. They unchained the sunbeds at 9am and some of the saddo's were waiting from 7.30am. The sad thing about it was that everybody who arrived by about 9.30am always got a bed, but these sad ****s had to get a parasol,a little table and the best spot by the pool.I used to wake Mrs Duck up about 9 and tell her to get down there and get us a bed each, didn't really care where. She was always moaning that it was my turn, so I kept having to point out that I went out of my way to get to the bar early in the evening, and get a decent spot in there. Stayed in an H10 hotel in Tenerife over Easter and they had a great policy. No loungers could be reserved before 10:00am and any that did had the stuff religiously removed and put in lost property. Some bemused people wandering around after breakfast thinking the stuff they had out down four hours earlier had been stolen! Sadly, there were still some who sat down for an hour at 9:00 to do a crossword, left their stuff there and then popped back about 4:00 for the cool part of the day. alpine_saint Posted 22 August, 2012 Share Posted 22 August, 2012 Only its not an urban myth, Frank. The Brits on holiday have all been up to the wee hours filling up on booze and are never to be seen before very late morning after their full English. So, the Germans get up at 6am, put on their kinky tight Spandex cycling costumes, creep down to the pool and lay out their towels, go and do their half Tour De France, come back breakfast, rest up until late morning / early afternoon, safe in the knowledge that they've beaten the stupid British to the loungers. The towel on the lounger isnt even the worse stunt the Germans pull. I've hear about how they build sand walls around their beach loungers to demark their "territory" on the beach... I've hear about how they build sand walls around their beach loungers to demark their "territory" on the beach... Done it myself on Studland beach, worked a treat to put a bit of distance between us and a family with obnoxious kids who persisted in running through our little patch with bloody flip flops on flicking sand everywhere, they P'd everyone off parents couldn't give a toss. Next day same family turned up pretty soon beach walls were popping up everywhere in their vicinity.

Ken Tone Posted 23 August, 2012 Share Posted 23 August, 2012 To be frank, I can't imagine many worse holidays than sitting by a hotel pool with nothing to do but sit in the sun, let alone adding to that the 'huge excitement' of thinking up daft stunts to do with towels. derry Posted 23 August, 2012 Share Posted 23 August, 2012 The Germans were the worst. We used to stay at the Holiday Inn in Montego Bay between flights. I used to go to Breakfast early about 6.45 the towels were left out the night before so I used to pick them up and put them in the used towel basket by the pool. Used to cause them all sorts of aggro as they lost their deposits on the towels and didn't get the loungers. When they turned up on the beach the loungers had been moved and mostly crews were using them but giving the innocent "We know nothing" They thought the towels were picked up by the staff at night. Stopped doing it then because of the lost money that week.

Saint137 Posted 23 August, 2012 Share Posted 23 August, 2012 You need to go on a Caribbean cruise on Ventura or any big cruise ship, the Brits are just as bad. They will reserve loungers on the opposite side of the ship so they can get some sun in the afternoon. Lounger shortages are probably the biggest cause of security incidents onboard. Give it to Ron Posted 23 August, 2012 Share Posted 23 August, 2012 Is this really what people do on their holidays? Yep it is...comical - we went to Tenerife that had a fantastic beach everything you could want about 15 minutes away. Fantastic waves, spotlessly clean, beer €1.50 a pint, tea bar but no the numpties used to queue up from 9 am to wait until the sun beds were unlocked at 9.30 the pool opened at 10. You should of seen the scrambles and jostling that went on - I used to stand and laugh at them from my balcony. We never used the pool once and the thought of being sat there surrounded by uncouth Geordies, Glaswegians, Scousers arguing because the kids were squabbling because they were bored fills me with dread. There was even a punch up between 2 mothers apparently that had to be separated by the lifeguard.
aintforever Posted 23 August, 2012 Share Posted 23 August, 2012 It's definitely not an urban myth, the Germans are alot worse. When I last went to the Canaries they were actually putting their towels down the night before. Needless to say by the end of the holiday they arrived at the pool the next morning to find their towels floating in the pool and some other Krauts in their loungers. svetigpung Posted 24 August, 2012 Share Posted 24 August, 2012 back in the good old days when i could stay out on the town til the early hours, on the way back to the room i once/twice put down a couple of towels on two of the best seats around the pool. Perfect. Felt like a d1ck when arriving to the pool well after lunch to our reserved loungers. Did get some dirty looks. Too hungover, tired and sweaty to be bothered though. Yes the Germans do master this technique. But its only cause they are more organised than the rest of us lazy fookers.
Whitey Grandad Posted 24 August, 2012 Share Posted 24 August, 2012 We spent a few days on Waikiki beach in February and some sad loser was building sand walls not just for himself but also another for his mate who turned up three hours later and said he did't want it. I once had a fight at a hotel on Tobago with a german over a sun lounger. Because it was on the lawn outside his room he thought it was his. Some swedish chap used to get down to the beach every day at 6:30 just to bag his coconut sunshade. One day I woke up at 6:00 and was very tempted to go and grab it before him, but I thought that would be childish.
Frank's cousin Posted 24 August, 2012 Share Posted 24 August, 2012 ... If you go on holiday in places where there are not enough sunloungers to go round, or are desperate to get one in a special spot... get up early and bag it. dont fricken blame those who do get up early to bag it - getting up early to bag it seems to be the way the organized go about achieveing their albeit slightly sad aim - alternatively go somewhere were there are enough sunloungers to go round... surely? Blaming others for doing what we cant be arsed to do oursleves seems to be a very 'British' steryotype

Fuengirola Saint Posted 24 August, 2012 Share Posted 24 August, 2012 Once in Benidorm about 15 yrs ago, we came back from drinking about 6-30 am and were obviously a bit worse for wear. Every sun bed had a towel on it, so my mate collected all the towels and put them all on one bed, one bloke even came down without saying a word and replaced his towel on his bed! We were in stitches, the hotel was full of British people by the way
