Top 3 most mental goal celebrations at a Saints Game

Was discussing this with a few people on twitter yesterday.

3 - Davis v Citeh. The goal celebration that got me thinking about it, was worth the money, time and effort of the trip on it's own. I went loopy at 1-1 but when Davis got that equaliser the lower tier went berserk, my right arm is cut to shreds and some poor lad was properly trampled laying out beneath a load of seats for a good 5 mins after the goal. Well worth it, 2-1 up after playing brilliant football at the home of the champions. Not a lot better than that! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kxEAn2p3l5U

2 - Lambert v skates 2007. I was in block 2 and can never remember a goal celebration like it at St Marys, the hatred released from that equaliser was like nothing I've felt before. That added to the fact there were 3 people for every 2 seats at the back of blocks 1-3 that day made it an "interesting" few minutes up there! "Lamberrrrrrttttt"

1 - Has to be Matty's last goal at the Dell v Arsenal. Pitch invasion etc

Honourable mentions in games I admittedly wasn't at have to go to

Fonte's winner vs Brighton

Lambert's winner at Millwall last season

Horne banana shot vs Bolton (listened to it on the radio as a kid, wish I was there...)

Moran 84

McGoldrick at Preston - stoppage time winner after being 2-0 down

Viafara and Rasiak at Derby in the play offs

Any goal v the Skates.

WHU - 90th minute winner on MNF 01/02 maybe? My legs were torn to pieces.

Both FA Cup Semi goals

Higginbottom penalty v Palace in our Premiership relegation season

Camara v Norwich

Beattie v Man Utd - last minute winner.

I think I was the one that accidently laid him out. As we surged down the stairs he stepped out from the seats into the aisle and I went straight into him and knocked him over. There were a few splatters of blood on the step. Spent most of the goal celebration trying to help him up worrying if he was dead or not.

That without a doubt, a full stadium our Premiership survival hanging by threads, playing a topsy turvy game against another team in relegation trouble, the clock running down with a point not being enough, the crowd already up and out of their seats willing and urging the team on with all their might, then a Daisy cutter hits the back of the Onion Bag and the whole stadium just explodes in deafening celebration that could be heard far across the City!

I can't see Selhurst (Dellhurst) in 1999 mentioned - the Arthur Waite stand went mental as did other sections of the ground. There must have been more of us than the Dell could hold at the time there and way more than the 10k it said on MOTD. Gave me real hope if that we survived a couple more years - and we did better than that in fact - that we could get good gates when SMS was built.

Most have been mentioned already.

Barnard's winner against Yeovil was quality.

Fonte's winner at the Withdean was incredible, there is a clip floating about on youtube taken from the Brighton end. Our end was just bouncing, lads pouring onto the running track and celebrating with the players, great memories.

Barnard's v Yeovil was amazing, at the time I thought that goal could put us in the pay offs!

Dellhurst a great shout, remember some long haired loon running on the pitch from the stand opposite Arthur Whaite, hugging Le Tiss and staying on their for ages after we scored!

Rasiak's was immense, only reason for not putting it down was my brain wiping all memories of that game after the walk back to my motor in the p155ing rain feeling utterly dejected!

Griffo, saw a load of people and Stewards with the matey you took out for a while, I thought at the time he looked in a properly bad way! Also saw an old dear getting walked out looking completely bemused with it all. Think she would have been better off in the upper tier!

Anyone on here miss the Horne equaliser against Bolton due to leaving early? I was about 10 or 11 & listening to the radio and got all stressed out after 2 mins of injury time and threw it against the wall, went downstairs in a huff and told my old man we had lost. Needless to say he was pretty annoyed the next day to wake up to us winning 2-1 after I'd sent him to bed with the hump at us losing 1-0!

Only reason I can think of so many recent mental celebrations must be down to the fact we have actually been getting last minute winners away from home! Young lads now are so lucky, my generation (30 years old) cut our teeth getting hammerings everywhere and generally expecting us to lose. Still always a good day out though and wouldn't change it!

The old woman was crying after we had scored our first. Were you with your missus? Think you were just over the aisle from me.

I doubt it mate, all 8 stone of you probably bounced off him and into someone else.

Ha, I'm pushing 12 1/2 stone now. Too much drinking and eating this summer. It probably also helped that I had people behind me pushing me as we piled down the stairs.

Fonte's winner at the Withdean was incredible, there is a clip floating about on youtube taken from the Brighton end. Our end was just bouncing, lads pouring onto the running track and celebrating with the players, great memories.

Games i was at; Le Tiss last competitive match at the Dell, Lambert's winner at Millwall last season, and the aforementioned Fonte at Brighton, unbeaten at home all season, the whole club and fans were going out of their way to make us feel unwelcome, that was amazing.

I wasnt at City on sunday, but when Davis's goal when in, my reaction was on a par with the last three as the most insanely happy madness celebrations i have ever had. Unbelieveable. We lost, but it didnt really feel like it.

Yep - the Carling Cup game v P***** in Dec 2003.

We hadn't scored in any of our previous 4 games leading up to this game. We hadn't played them for 7 years. The atmosphere was hostile.

The build up was great and the whole ground went mental when Beattie scored. Joy of joys - it's on youtube. A great night:

When you listen to Jose's goal, the noise level is massive in comparison to Connellys.

For me

1) Pahars v Skates - I literally goosebumped all over and nearly passed out from leaping up so quickly.

2) Brighton away L1 promotion season - Luffers can be a bulb on here but it was all the better for him hugging Fonte.

3) Camara v Norwich Prem relegation season - the roof coming off St Mary's.

Sunday's second had me stumbling down three rows of empty seats and hugging pretty much everything in a state of disbelieving delirium, pretty close to the list.

me & some other matey both fell over running down the stairs towards the front when Rickie equalised on Sunday. My leg still bloody hurts but would do it again.

Another one I dont think was mentioned was when Marsden scored V Wolves in the cup on 2003. St Marys was rocking as much as anywhere when that went in.

Loudest cheer I've every heard.

One I remember well but many won't is a last minute Neil Heaney (i think, tho he might have set it up...) goal home to Newcastle in the 90's somewhen... We had come from behind to score a couple of late goals against KK's boys, it was an evening KO and the archers was rocking! When he scored he literally jumped in the crowd!!!

This was my one, at the time it was magic. Shame the way the season ended, but my boss at the time was a Skate and he was completely and utterly dejected on the Mon. Harry & Jim, sticking one over them and Crouchy bagging the peno in the last min. I was dancing in the aisle, when that went in.

Stern Johns V Leicester was pretty mental for me. A huge 3 points against a relegation rival.

Actual top 3 though would probably be;

3 - Sharp V Pompey (second) technically I went mental when the referee signalled, but it counts.

2 - Lambert 3rd V Millwall - incredible stuff.

1 - Fonte V Coventry - as said above, we knew we'd made it.

Not as good as some but Waigo vs Norwich in the JPT wasn't bad!

The only things I remember from that was Norwich were time wasting, Grant Holt had been poleaxed by a worm that had inadvertently popped its head up from beneath the pitch, the ref was telling him to stop being such a Jessie as we were off down the other end and Papa seemed to put it in off his backside to equalise. The guys I was with were all 40 & 50 something's but we were bouncing round like 14 year olds at the School Disco (well when we were 14).

Still not a patch on Camara's winner v Norwich which was a pure and utter emotion.

Surprised the game at the Dell v Newcastle when we were 1-0 down going into added time, then winning 3-1 in those added minutes. I couldn't go but listened on Solent, as the third went in the commentator sounded like he about to spontaneously combust at any second: if he was that excited what were fans in the crowd like?

Yeah, the Waigo equaliser nearly made my list but missed out because it was "only" the JPT... even if we did end up winning it !
