Wigan attendance

Fair enough, we have different options on that then. I think if there is a mad scramble for Wigan tickets we've left it too late.

In the past we've sold out against Exeter, MK Dons, Reading and Coventry. Swindon and Bristol Rovers were nearly sell outs.

It's proof that our fans will show up in numbers on the odd occasion, regardless of the opposition - though the demand isn't there all the time clearly as proven by the slow Wigan sales.

IMO, the demand just isn't there.

I can see why the Man Utd game selling out could potentially be used for justifying that, of course. Why do you think having 2,000 unsold home tickets represents the same justification?

A lot of teams will sell out against the likes of Manu but a lot do not need to expand. IMO if we regularly get near sell outs against teams like Wigan we should start thinking about more seats as for the bigger games you'll alway get a lot more in.

As per my earlier post; I don't necessarily disagree. But this game isn't at sell out, it doesn't look like it will get there either. Its touch and go whether we'll get more than 30,000 in attendance. Not a sell out. Do you think that still justifies it?

I'm neither for or against the idea of any possible expansion, clearly the need right now is not there for some games but who knows in the not too distant future. The year we were relegated I remember most games were 'sell-outs' to home fans and I believe all were over 30k.

The truth is thanks to the small away following they'll be more Saints fans inside St Mary's tomorrow than for just about any other home league fixture this season.

Not necessarily, no. There's a chance we COULD have that, but we need to sell a lot more of the 2,300 odd savailable seats still on sale.

No, and no.

The only season we consistently got sell outs to home fans was in season 2003/04 (predominantly because that year had the highest level of season ticket sales after a cup final, and 8th place league finish, and the prospect of a European campaign).

That'll be them covering their backsides firstly due to the traffic jams when town snarls to a halt due to them not even giving bus discount (never mind the free bus tickets we had from 2001-5) any more, and secondly when their new ticketing system fails. :D

"We missed the whole first half because all the turnstiles crashed"

"We told you to get there early"

BlueStar are still offering the discounted Day Rider tickets with season and match tickets. No idea whether First are doing likewise.

Just had an e-mail from the club telling me to get there early in case trouble with the new turnstiles but used some strange words like" a strong crowd is expected"

maybe they think everyone has been down the gym all summer

Are they ? I haven't seen that advertised anywhere ! Hmm, may have to walk to the shops for the bus instead of getting picked up outside the house then...

Aha : http://www.bluestarbus.co.uk/football.php

May have to walk to get within the M27 then. :o

They posted something on Facebook about that as well. I'll turn up at 14:58 then moan about how the queue is 50 people long and I'm going to miss the start, like normal.

They also posted that the South African cricket team will be paraded, god knows why.

We could give them all a big round of applause for taking our No.1 ranking... Bizarre.

Bizarre indeed, strange wording, parading the South Africans

they will be asking us to contribute to the PST fund next

have they lost the plot, why not have a few local olympians parade

Probably because Leeds is the third biggest city in the country and have often had a very successful team in the past. It also draws support from large towns like Wakefield, Harrogate and York. There isn't another decent sized club in about a 30 mile radius. Wigan is a small town with a fair few huge cities and clubs near them so it's an utterly ridiculous comparison.

But were Leeds not historically sucessful, because they had a big fan base back in the day, when punters through the turnstile was a clubs biggest income by far. When were Leeds Man U, Man City, Liverpool and Wigan founded? Surely they both have had pleanty of time to become the dominant forces in their respective areas and therefore attrach a large fan base?

Why do you think Leeds were founded before Wigan? Don't you also think the size of city counts to the success of the club? Can't think of too many footballing superpowers coming from Cities with a population of 80,000, like Wigans.

This weekend is traditionally associated with needing to wash the car. And weddings. And someone I know is having a BBQ. Oh and B&Q have got a sale on.

If this was next week we'd have sold 50k for this easily.

Too true. The Man U game, which I don't think had sold out yet, would have sold out 50k in four hours if it wasnt on the telly and the same weekend the kids to back to school.

any updates Griffo? I'm keen to moan about the attendance again whilst at the same time abusing everyone who has returned this season with chants of "where were you when we were sh*t?"

A quick search shows more than 1,000 still available in blocks 43 and 44 of the Northam, and around a thousand also still remaining in the normal seats of the Itchen and Chapel stands. Corporate sales are an unknow quantity, but there may also be opportunities for you to sing "where were you eating your prawn sandwiches when we were sh*t?".

I have moved to block 3 this season as it is the ideal position to abuse and wave my season ticket at the plastics in blocks 43 and 44 and the JCL corporates in the boxes which were often empty in the Championship and L1.

I'm sat in block 44 today, I don't have a season ticket this year.

I have had a season ticket for the past 11 seasons

Correct me if i'm wrong Franky boy but Wigan is a cat C game, most of the empty seats are behind the goal where the price is £30, so the increase of what, £2 is putting off people is it? The same people we were told would attend in their droves now we are in the Premier League. Are you saying people wanted Premier league football and they want it at the same price as it was when were were selling out against Exeter and MK Dons?

I know you want to start the whole thing all over Turks, but can you not recall all the shiedt whinging about kids and OAPs massive increases etc? also The Northam is not for 'everyone, especially those who dont have the necessary sharp strides and brnaded Polos....

But if people are desperate to see Premier League football, as we were told they were and a lot of them were just people that would come to Southampton for a day out to see some Premier League football, not nessasarily Saints fans. Surely they wouldn't care if they were in the Northam or they wouldn't know until they got here it wasn't for them? THere are also tickets available in the Chapel as well by the way so they do have a choice.

The Northam is probably the worst area of the ground for weirdly dressed wronguns.
