St Marco Posted 20 August, 2012 Share Posted 20 August, 2012 I was one of those people who said we would get near sell outs every home game and by the looks of it it's only a few thousand from being a sell out with 5 days more of selling to go. What i'm interest to know is what happens if the game is a sell out? Will you then create a thread saying those who thought the games wouldn't sell out were right? Or is this one of those safe trolling threads where no matter your opinion or attack your free from criticism when your wrong?

There you go The price of the Coventry game wasnt that dissimilar and that one was on telly, so it can't be the price and Man U is close to a sell out just a week later, so people aren't all on holidays with their kids. We are premier league, Cortese is investing etc etc. that is the question, why hasn't it already given what we've been told all summer? It's our triumphant return to the premier league. I expect this one to have sold out weeks ago given what people have been saying all summer about our fan base and catchment area.

I think this thread is a bit premature then as your trying to make a point based on something that hasen't actually happened yet. If we get to kick off and it isn't a near sell out then i'd be surprised. But with 5 days to go anything could happen. As to why it has not sold out yet I haven't a clue, sure people have many different reasons. People on holiday, people poor after having a summer holiday, spent money on the olympics, waiting until match day etc etc. Pretty sure not being a sell out almost a week before the game is normal for all clubs? I noticed loads of empty seats in the Everton vs United game.

Who said anything about season tickets? One off match ticket prices for this and Coventry weren't that dissimilar so it isn't the cost that's the reason why we've only sold 6,000 non season tickets, we managed to sell 15,000 of these for the Coventry game without a problem. maysie Posted 20 August, 2012 Share Posted 20 August, 2012 If we don't sell out it will because Wigan is possibly the least attractive team we play this year IMO combined with holiday season. I still think a lot of people got disinterested with Saints when we went tits up and now when looking to get involved again realise quite how expensive football is now - I like to call them recession impacted plastics. Still will surprise me if we don't sell out though

We'll sell out for the big games and we'll sell out for some of the smaller games if we are doing well. That's not to say that at some point in the future we couldn't fill a bigger stadium of course. I feel that if we start of okay the crows will flock... You always got a ticket if you wanted one, you just had to ring up on the day they went on sale and be a bit more proactive. Some people on here like to think we were turning thousands of people away every week and thousands more didn't bother because they thought they wouldn't get a ticket, this simply isn't the case. Yes, there was the odd game that sold out very quickly, but there were lots of games that didn't.

The Cat Posted 20 August, 2012 Share Posted 20 August, 2012 It's the first home game of the season, and our first home Premier League game after being promoted. SaintBobby Posted 20 August, 2012 Share Posted 20 August, 2012 It will be a sellout (with exception of whatever empty seats are in the increasingly retracted Wigan end of the ground). AussieDog Posted 21 August, 2012 Share Posted 21 August, 2012 There is the answer to your question. Over 10% remain unsold and only half of these in the two blocks unused by Wigan. I'd have thought given what we've been told all summer this game would have sold out weeks ago, wouldn't you? I know you're just trolling, but does it matter WHEN we sell the tickets? Surely all that counts is that they are sold by the time the match kicks off? Maybe some people would prefer to keep their money in their pockets rather than SFC's until they have to spend it. Maybe some people are still on their summer holidays with their families, or spent all of this month's budget on going to the Olympics (a once in a lifetime event for the most in the UK, whereas Saints have been in the premiership before). Maybe they are already disillusioned that we're not going to win the league after such an appalling result on Sunday!

Chapel is not the family stand anymore, but is quite dull, if you want to get excitable get tickets in the Northam, they have opened block 43 so go in there £30 as well, decent atmosphere, plenty of availability in that stand at the moment. if you have southampton based contact who can pop down the ground to buy the tickets with cash / debit card you can avoid the booking fees as well. Alanh Posted 21 August, 2012 Share Posted 21 August, 2012 The main reason we haven't sold out yet are it's August so loads of people are on holiday . We didn't sell out our first game at SMS and rarely do sell out the first home match of the season for that reason. In addition we're playing Man U next week so any fans who needed to be selective about which matches they can attend are more likely to try for Man U tickets first. That might mean that Wigan tix are a fall back plan for those that are unsuccessful and consequently will sell nearer matchday.
