I think its the minimum we need, yes. And I reckon we could get away with just two for now, but would probably need to look at a loan deal or a decent splurge in the new year window.

 

Ideally of course we'd get a new keeper, 2 new CBs, a left back and a winger. I think its fair to assume that won't happen, the club have even distanced themselves from going for another left back. And the keeper issue is a strange one, I think Premier League rules state that the squad of 25 has to be made up with 3 keepers.

 

Still, 8 days to go and I could quite easily be proved wrong yet. But I doubt it, as I say I think the best we can hope for is 2 signings by the end of the window and make up the rest as we go along. And yes I agree it would be a very decent window, I just feel so far we've addressed positions which are less urgent than the outstanding positions.

 

In complete agreement with you, and it feels very strange.

Let's wait for the usual excuses 'we obviously have 1000 targets and it takes months to sign anyone blah blah ****ing blah. If deals are this hard perhaps we should have started earlier than last week.

 

Yep, we've been heading to the PL since, well, ooooo, October last year....

But the people now willing to wait until 2359 on August 31st THEN are willing to wait even further for loans, or even the January window, rather than be bold and ambitious, are in many cases the very same people expecting promotion since our great starting run up until October last year, therefore plenty of forewarning about squad quality improvement. Quite ironic really...

I think you'll find that I am the new forum hardman (self styled), so that automatically makes me interesting (thats's what Turkey told me anyway).

 

Either way, I do agree I have been beating the same drum for too long, so I'll leave it until the end of the window and get back to 'normal' DPS.

I think its a test for the newly signed mods. Do they take a Howard Webb approach, a stern word and tell TDD to to get on with it. Or do they take a David Elleray approach and wield the ban-stick.

 

I think JustMike seems reasonable, but skintsaint seems a bit of a maverick so anything could happen.

Its all very convenient to call me out for being abuse, but the simple fact is I rarely start it; its all you babies who whine on about my "negativity" simply because I dont share the consensus opinion. Oh, of course, it must be "attention seeking"....

Have to say, in some respects I agree with Alpine here. The apologists for our lack of transfer activity are completely missing the point that Adkins himself wanted to bring in a number of players before the season started, and if the Ramirez deal falls through we're no closer to seeing the signings the manager stressed he needed. Yes, I'm sure there's lots going on behind the scenes in terms of sourcing our targets, but its a simple fact that every one of our intended targets this summer has been leaked in the press well before they either signed or the deal fell through. So we're going to have to zoom into overdrive with a little over a week to go in the transfer window and still at least 3 or 4 players away from the manager's initial assessment.

 

You can kind of accept that one or two deals will go the full distance, that's the nature of it. But (again, by our manager's assessment) we're short of 4 players in key positions and its going to have to be a spot on transfer policy to identify and recruit the players we need in the time remaining. I don't think its possible, I think at best we'll get a winger and one central defender.

 

I think if you polled most people on here they'd say we need one or two CBs. They'd also say that they'd have liked them signed in time for pre-season. As you say from what NA said he wanted the same. Now comes the part where I and others have a problem with Alpine and other posters with the same melodramatic style. Do you trust those that are in charge of the club? If not why not? Alright they may have ****ed one or two people off but in the grand scheme of things they've financed and steered us to two consecutive promotions, bought us the most prolific lower league striker, tied our best young players to long contracts, broken our transfer record already this summer, pumped more money into the academy and training complex. Now call me happy clappy all you want, but I feel that deserves a level of trust and respect. As a result I'll happily wait until the end of the window and see where that takes us.

 

If then, and only then, we are still short in key areas, I will be disappointed. But still this won't be proof that we haven't attempted to bring the right recruits in. Be concerned maybe but don't be a pillock.

Fair enough, but there are some of us who are more concerned than others. We've had several months of failed efforts to cover these positions, it seems a bit conceited to assume its suddenly going to click now. I repeat, where are the rumours about our CB search.

 

Think its a bit rich to call us "melodramatic" just because we are more concerned than you.

Has Cortese done an amazing job at the club? Absolutely, no doubt in hell.

 

Do I trust him? Not for a second.

 

These things can be mutually exclusive.
